In phycosocial and other songs by Slipknot, and lots of other Metal songs, there's this noise, that sounds like artificial harmonics, but it's weird. HLP!

Those little squealing noises are pinch harmonics, pulling harmonics out of the note by picking with the side of your thumb touching the string. Google "pinch harmonics".

also the action of you gutiar plays a big part in doing these. If your action is too low they won't come out very clear at all.

well i naturally stumbled upon pinch harmonics. i was'nt sure how they did it but i also didn't care. but if you're starting out pinch harmonics are not the way to go. you should try learning how to play before you learn how to do tricks.

.......I kno how to play...........lol. I'm not trying to be mean, 'tsept I actually use that method of learning the basics before trying to make noises. Tom Morrello is one of my idols, and my dad wouldn't let me get a guitar with a killswitch, or a Digitech Whammy. : ( However, I'm saving up to get one.

I didn't know it was called "pinch harmonic", but I searched for it on Youtube, watched this video and realized I've done it naturally a million times. The video is one of those instructional vids about how to create pinch harmonics --- maybe you want to take a peek at it.
Good luck!
