The sun was high and the day was hot above the forests and across the land, down to the shoreline where the breeze off the ocean was at least cool and pleasant with it's salty, fishy smell. Xiang wasn't out near the ocean today though, he was deep in the trees where the sun filtered through the leaves and everything was softly lit with dappled light, that is until Xi wandered through, the fiery male cast a glowing orangey-yellow that was easy to see here in the shade and moist, it flickered like flames, but still somehow the winged ulaya managed to hide himself well enough in underbrush to hunt.
Xi disliked hunting this way, his preferred method would be to swoop down from the air and snatch whatever small prey he could find and carry off, but today's pickings had been slim out in the light and heat, no clouds meant no shadows to hide his presence from the skittish creatures of the lands and so he had moved into the forests. Here it was cool and quiet for the most part, Xi had seen a gaggle of girls also heading in before he had, so he tried also to stray from them as well.
After a time, Xi had become very focused stalking a doe and her twins, the mother seemed very young to Xi, she wasn't as skittish of his scent as others he had stalked. He smiled to himself, that would be her folly, she'd lose a fawn and he would have quite a meal, as he watched them and moved closer, down wind of the trio.

Susan was laying quite comfortably on a rather large tree branch, enjoying the sunny day in the shade and the uncharacteristically lovely smells that were being carried along on the breeze, when a certain, familiar smell caught his attention. Susan looked down with interest glittering in his eyes, as he saw that down below him was a mother Doe and her fawn. He smiled widely to himself as he took in the sight, it was so nice for him to see a mother actually being a mother. he sighed happily, and continued watching the sight before him, when sudenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw something glowing in the bushes. He turned his head and looked off and into the bushes. There crouched and obviously stalking the poor unsuspecting mother was a male, glowing, WINGED ulaya. "woah!" he ghasped out awed and amazed. And tried to get a better look at the Ulaya, he wanted to see whether or not it was a girl or a boy, whatever they were... they had really nice hair. But as he crept closer to the edge of the tree branch, he didn't pay attention to the cracking noise, of the slow sinking motion that was occurring becuase of his weighty, but he was PERFECTLY aware of the jerking motion and the loud SNAP sound the branch made as it broke under his weight and sent him plummetting to the ground with a large crash.

Xiang was as low to the ground as he could manage, belly against the exposed roots and leaf-litter. Something had spooked the doe and she was alert now, he didn't notice what it was from his vantage point, and so he froze in place, not even breathing. If they ran off, he just might go hungry today, or at least for a few more hours, before he worked up the energy to track something down again.
Xi whispered prayers to the god of hunting, in his mind, that she would settle again. But before the thought could even be fully realized in his mind the creaking and cracking of a branch caused the doe and her fawns to bolt and dash away into the trees. Without even time to sit up from his crouch and curse the trees for their branches, the one holding Susan fully gave out and with more cracking and finally a loud and unforgiving snap.
Xiang was gaping at the black and rainbow pelted youth that seemed to fall from no where and who might just be hurt. Xi wasn't really the vindictive sort, but gods forbid this was a female, she would rue the day she climbed that tree.
"Hey!" Xi called out, in an almost cold fashion, his voice was clearly male and annoyed, "Are you dead?" he stalked over, shaking fallen leaves and bits from his form. He poked the youth with one paw, gently, despite his tone, he was concerned.

Susan groaned pitifully as every fiber of his being decided to make itself known at that very moment. He stifled a cry and choked back a sob. He rolled his head slightly and winced as he realised he was probably bleeding, he didn't reall want to get up and feel his head, but he rolled over anyways.
He hissed in pain as his muscles were made to work, he felt every nerve fiber screaming at him to just stay down but he was happy to not that nothing had been broken. He moved his wrists and legs, nothing had been sprained, he took a few shakey breths in and out, no broken ribs. All in all, he'd gotten off extremely lucky.
But as he felt a paw poke at his side, he looked up with a pitiful look on his face, only to see the gorgeous... or rather, now that he was up close, the handsome Ulaya prodding at him. Quickly Su's eyes welled up and he gave an extremely pained look as he shook his head slowly, allowing a few tears to fall down his face. "I-i-it f-fu-fu-feels like it!" he let out between pained pathetic sobs.

Xiang let out a soft sigh and sat, his wings were held up and spread a little, the manner in which he usually held them, it was show offy, but that was Xi.
"Somehow I've always thought death would feel like nothing, so if you're in pain, at least you know you're still alive... Or something like that." Xi rolled his eye up and inspected the tree, the broken branch still held to the trunk by fibers, but he didn't know if it would hold long. The branch wasn't likely to hurt them if it fell, but he wasn't going to take a chance.
"Can you move?" Xi ran a paw over the youth's legs, he didn't see any broken bones... He glanced at the face now, wet with tears and scrunched up with pain, Poor kid, he though, Xi was slightly upset that his dinner had fled but there was nothing to do about it now.

Poisin Ivy Josephine Susan looked down slightly and took in a big heaving breath as he attempted to lift himself up slightly. He knew he could walk but he would much rather not have to becuase of the strain it was putting on him. He stumbled forward slightly and sat back down, shaking his head in a pathetic manner, as he looked back at Xi. "no..." he said, casting his eyes down a bt, "It still hurts too much to walk..." Suddenly he felt very weak and childish.

Xi had yet to even think about it, he ducked his head and tucked his wings down against his back, then nosed under Su's front legs, moving his body under the youth's to carry him piggyback. He didn't plan on going far, just away from the danger of more falling branches, maybe there was a clear spot nearby, a meadow or something.
"Hang on to me, kiddo, I'll find you somewhere to rest."

Susan nodded his head as he wrapped his front paws around Xi's shoulders and neck and weakly 'hopped' onto Xi's back, just letting he back legs hang off to either side. He looked down nervously at Xi's wings and wondered if he could possibly damage them by being up there and on his back... "um..." he started uncertainly, "i won't... that is... this isn't going to... uh... what i mean to say is... are your wings alright with me riding you like this?" He bit his lower lip nervously hoping that he wasn't causing this nice Ulaya any pain.

Xi had already started trotting off, away from the area when the youth stuttered out his concerns. Behind them the branch choose that moment to give and came crashing down to the forest floor, stirring up dirt and dead leaves. Xi smirked and shook his head. "They're made out of tougher stuff than you'd think. Worry about your own bits, kiddo. How did you manage to fall outta that tree anyway?"
Xi continued on for a few minutes more before stopping in a small grassy clearing, he crouched to let Su off, and then flexed his wings out again, they were fine, if a little rumpled, but he set to preening them and in seconds the pinions were all back in place.

Susan sat as he was slid off of Xi, he looked down with an embarrassed pout on his face and informed him. "I like climbing trees.... and then i saw those deer... and i wanted to get a better look at them... so i inched in closer..." Sure he might have lied about that last bit... but he didn't want this Male to know that he'd been trying to look at him. Susan layed down slowly and gently, lifting his head slightly to stare at the winged Ulaya. He took a while to look at his wings, and admired how pretty they looked in the sun like that. Then a thought hit him and he looked up slightly upset. "what's your name?"

Xi nodded, his voice was no longer cold nor harsh now, just calm and smooth. "Nng~ I see, well next time be more aware of your surroundings when you're hunting. I had been tracking those deer for a while, honest mistake though. A fall like that could have been worse, but you're young and fit, you'll bounce back soon enough."
He stood and took a few steps to draw himself closer to Su, with one paw he lifted the young dark male's chin and while leaning in close peered at the youth's eyes, to Xi it didn't seem that they were dilated oddly or anything, so there was no concussion, happily. "Xiang." He murmured in answering reply, now admiring their coloring, the rainbow effect was much more startling up close. Xi didn't bother with silly things like nervousness or 'personal space', he wondered why the upset look had crossed his face but he wasn't going to dwell on it, maybe the kid was still dizzy?

Susan smiled widely up at Xiang. It was a nice name, it sounded manly.... unlike his... god he hoped Xiang didn't ask for his name... He looked down slightly and tried it out for a moment. "xiaung... xiaung..." The sad part was... he wasn't even aware of the fact that he was pronouncing Xi's name so wrongly, that most Ulaya's would have slapped him in the face. "That's a great name!!! what's it mean?"

With a shrug Xi moved and sat back, laying stretched out comfortably in the sun that filtered through the trees, he kept his wings raised and spread so they caught the breezes and fluttered. Xi shook his head correcting Su and pronouncing it more slowly, "Shi-ang, just 'shi' is fine with me, if that's easier. My full name is Xiang Huo, it mean soar-fire, it's a bit literal don't you think? But it suits me fine." He smirked, content to focus on himself, he was vain.

Susan looked on at Xi in awe. His name was so cool!!! If Susan had known Xi for long, he would have flailed and pounced on him to tell him how awesome it was out loud. Instead Susan gave a wide and genuine smile and looked at Xi's wings. "What's it like to fly???"

Xiang sat up straighter and raised his head, his gaze focused up past the canopy to the sky beyond, he fluttered his wings just a little bit more, aiming to be over dramatic, he loved the attention.
"It's like... Like doing something that scares you, but then once you try it you find out that it's something you don't know how you lived without before hand. Like breathing, like freedom. Flying is like, mmm, well you know, being with someone, special, like for the very first time."
With his chin still tilted skyward Xi shifted his eyes in Su direction to catch his expression and he held the pose for a moment longer before smirking at the young male and laughing, "Not that I'm ever scared."
