-Ancient Arts-

Required for: School of Magic

Class Description
Students will study the different types of magic that have developed through the ages, spells associated with these techniques, and even theories that have been presented in contemporary literature and entertainment (video games, ect). Furthermore, human deviations of these (tai chi, acupuncture, ect) will be analyzed. A very intensive course.

Classroom Description
The most eclectic room in the school, the walls plastered with magic runes, sigils, and magic circles; in addition, there are various tables with magic tomes for supplemental study. The desks here are arranged in a circle facing one another for discussion purposes.

It was probably the most he'd ever made his way to the classrooms in the past few weeks, and Micajah let out a sigh of relief as he opened the door to the room that held the Ancient Arts class that he'd been mildly putting off. It wasn't that he was actually putting it off, he just did most of the work from his room anyway thanks to printing things off and paying attention to keep due dates straight, but every now and then he actually craved human contact in ways that could be simple as talking from a ring of desks.

The room was empty as he entered, not really a surprise, and he picked the desk second to the left of the door. He set his pack down at his feet as he slid into the chair, taking out a notebook and gazing up at one of the runes that lined the wall. If anything today he hoped another student would come in and he would have someone to talk with.

A small hand reached for the door to the Ancient Arts room, pushing lightly to sneak a peek inside. This wasn't the boy's first time here nor would it be the last, but as interesting as he found the place he always entered with caution and an open mind. The room was most certainly eclectic, decorated with the many different trinkets and other anomalies that fascinated the boy each time he entered. But what made this visit unique wasn't the actual room itself, but who was in the room. The class size was often small, but it seemed today would be a pleasant change of pace.

A small smile crept onto his face as he spotted the blond and slowly he moved in only to slide beside him in the desk to his left. As Micajah had done, Elijah had set his bag down at his feet, making himself comfortable. He glanced over toward the other teen. "Hey Mica," he grinned, speaking lightly and an air of joy. "What's up?" The teen was delighted to see another peer join him, and this one he was on friendly terms with and respected greatly.

Diving into his bag, he pulled his own notebook and a pen from the confines, readying himself for the start of the class. Upon closer inspection, little sketches lined the borders of each page, mediocre drawings of various ideas and images he wanted to play with later. Elijah's attention was still fixated on his friend. He looked back over after retrieving his things, wondering how he was fairing.

Micajah looked up and away from whatever it was he'd been doing when the shortened version of his name greeted his ears, and he smiled broadly at Elijah as the youth took the seat next to him. He rather liked this small boy who's name held a similar meaning to his own, the one with childish innocence that was a little rare in today's events.

"Elijah, good to see you again. I've not been up to much other than keeping myself holed up inside my room, thought it would be good to get out for a change and see other students. I can't have people thinking that I'm just a figment of their imaginations, after all."

He chuckled a little bit as he went back to looking at his notebook and the little runes he'd drawn on the paper which, not surprisingly, looked more like they were drawn onto a pair of pants and a jacket. He'd been meaning to draw them properly and in the way that they were meant to be done but for some reason another he always found the runes looking best when on a piece of clothing. Perhaps he really wasn't cut out for this kind of thing...

"Er, anyway, how have you been? Haven't seen you around much lately."

Elijah chuckled along with him, finding the sentiment amusing. He sure hoped that Micajah was interacting with others, and wondered silently if he had come to make any friends here at the school. "I'm glad you're out today. It's good to see you," he answered directly, grinning still. Reaching over, he fingered his notebook, forgetting for a second it was there, but once reassured, he returned full attention to his friend and the notebook he brought out.

He spotted the little runes and smiled. At least he was doing that much. Of course he wouldn't have known Mica's passion for them in other ways, like on clothing, but he would have found the concept cool if not unique as well.

"I've been doing alright, thank you," 'Lij' answered, nodding a little while his gaze strayed away, not really looking at anything. "I've been keeping myself busy with various things, probably not what I've been supposed to. I've been taking a lot of photographs lately though."

"It seems like we're both too distracted by what we want to do to actually do what needs done. I'm probably falling more and more behind in classes like this than I actually mean to so getting out is most likely my best choice thus far."

Micajah had stopped his drawing on runes on clothing and was actually opening his book to a random page, his mind set on learning everything he could about whatever happened to be on it. He happened to an old fashioned spell for making rain, more specifically the rain dances performed by Native American tribes. Interesting.

"But you've been taking photos lately? Of what, may I ask?"

Elijah watched him silently, observing the pages that he paused upon with mild interest. It was an insight to Micajah's personal interests as well, which the brunette always found fascinating in some way or another. But he had to agree. Getting out was probably the most appropriate thing for them both to be doing. Attending classes and getting work for them done was certainly something that should have been put high on their priority list.

When the question came to him he gave a shy grin and shrugged. "Various things. Whatever I find interesting at the time, whether that be students, architecture, or whatever scenery I'm in. The school offers a lot of interesting photos," 'Lijah answered, giving a small nod. "So have you been doing any projects lately?"

Micajah nodded his head in regards to the talk of photos, his own memory thinking to the different and interesting places he'd seen on the island. Considering how lost he'd gotten here while trying to get around his first few weeks it wasn't unusual that he'd seen more than his fair share of the wondrous thinks ShinKami had to offer.

"I've been trying to work on a costume for Halloween, a rather interesting one, and I should be able to finish translating what I can of the pattern sometime soon. Hopefully I'll get it done sooner rather then later and can actually wear it around on the holiday. Are you planning on celebrating as well?"

He was looking back and forth between the writings in his book and Elijah, trying not to be rude but being so interested in rain dances. Micajah loved water, this wasn't much of a secret, so something like this. . .he wondered if one day he should give it a shot. Making a costume for that sounded awesome.

Elijah perked up, grinning at the mention of the holiday and the costume Mica was designing. Interested eyes seemed locked on the other teen while the wheels of his mind imagined what he must have been concocting. No doubt Elijah was eager to see the teen's masterpiece. "Oh that sounds awesome," he grinned. "I'd love to see your costume when you finish it. I'm sure it will be amazing."

'Lij' gave a thoughtful look, glancing away for a moment realizing he hadn't thought much about the holiday fast approaching. "I haven't decided on anything yet, but I think I'd like to do something for Halloween. It's one of my favorite holidays and probably the best to really be creative with." It was a curious thing and he considered his options. The teen was interested in knowing if anything would he happening at the school in celebration.

His cheeks pinked slightly at the compliment towards his sewing abilities, Micajah always the one to take such words of praise to heart rather nicely. It wasn't that he had an inflated ego, it was more or less he wasn't used to someone telling him that sewing was actually good for a man to be doing. His Father surely would have preferred him to a skill of some other sort, but he like needs and thread.

Go figure.

"Wouldn't it be fun if we could actually use some small amounts of magic around Halloween? To spice things up a bit?"

Micajah pulled the conversation away from clothing and back to magic rather flawlessly, his interests coinciding at the moment as Halloween did seem like a time when magic could actually change the way things were going for either the better or worse. He'd seen plenty of movies were magic around the holiday was used for fun and mischievous purposes and though he had sworn to never use magic (when he was able to) for anything other than good, the thoughts of flying rolls of toilet paper amused him. Endlessly.

(( as long as we can finish, it's okay with me =3 ))

His diversion seemed to work. Elijah's eyes grew bright. Magic...on Halloween? It seemed beyond appropriate. However, he was unsure if any such thing would occur, despite how interesting it sounded. He fiddled with his pencil as the spoke, focusing on the images floating around his head at the idea, but also observed Mica as well.

"That would be really exciting," he commented, giving a confirming nod.

Glancing back to their work, he reluctantly flitted his eyes about, his focus unable to stick. Elijah made himself promise to get a ton of pictures of everyone on the holiday, wanting to record a rather joyous event between the students.

((I am extremely sorry I haven't replied to this. School has gotten a grip on me as well as other responsibilities. It's not much of an excuse, I'm sorry))
