User Image Life in the House was utterly bewildering for Kyil at times. he felt overwhelmed to a small degree, and found that lately he would have these strange feelings in his chest. A tightening that made it hard for him to breath. He felt as if his heart was racing, though he knew it was not. In order to quell these discomforting feelings Kyil had choosen to take up the option he had to leave the premisis for a short period of time.

He of course took the time to paint himself up, apply the proper purfume and jewelry to accent his lean form, and wrapped a pleasently pink cloak about his shoulders before exiting his Mistress Zari's home. Sadly, or was that fortunately? Kyil did not leave alone. Trailing after him, to either side, a pair of House Guards took up a uncomfortable presence at either of his elbows. Kyil would not even attempt to shake the men or tell them to leave. They followed him out of his Mistress Zari's best interest. Still, the looks they gave him made him feel uncomfortable.

Well...reguardless... He could distract himself with the hustle and bustle of the merchant district. Kyil was uncertain if he wanted to try going to a tavern. After having lived in the Black Bottom so long he felt queer looking at other establishments that served food and drink. He supposed it would not be so bad if he did not feel so...lost...out of place. It was hard to keep a smile on his face. It kept falling when he wasn't careful.

Also feeling a high level of discomfort, Mikaril leaned against a wall beside a cart, pretending to casually examine the wares being sold upon it. Truth be told he had no idea what it was he was supposed to be looking at, only what he was in truth looking for. Booming marketplaces like these always promised the occasional unwary traveler with a purse a little looser than it ought to be. Granted, it was twice as easy to put one's foot where it didn't belong and wind up a twisted corpse in a ditch, but it promised twice the loot to a successful thief, and Mikaril was just as tempted as any.
Though it usually took a lot more than mere treasure to lure the young thief this close to the hated surface world, where he could smell the reek of it down every stone corridor and traces of it in the wares of every other booth. He had come to purchase a few things that much as it filled him with bile, stood the best chance of being found in a marketplace close to the surface.
He shivered and pulled his hood further forward, stealing a glance at the rush of bodies that passed him by. His eyes fell upon an astonishing-looking drow, festooned with paint and baubles, and flanked by two burly men who looked like they took no nonsense. Unable to tear his eyes away, Mikaril immediately stepped into the throng of people and walked a respectable distance behind the trio. A tiny whiff of perfume drifted past his nose, and it seemed to pull him closer toward the strange male. Always had he been fascinated by trinkets, tattoos and all things colorful; had he been born a surface elf, he would have been likened to a magpie.

Things out here were far more busy and chaotic then the best day at the Black. Though it took Kyil a bit of time to adjust, he found the constant noise and movement rather enjoyable. He paid so little attention to the crowd around him. A fools actions in the underdark and one that normally would end up with someone in a very unpleasent situation. However, the two guards that watched out for him provided enough wariness and presence to keep any real harm from befalling Kyil during his wandering. In truth Kyil had no idea that it was unwise to let his attention be so side tracked. He did not know that he should not be so unobservant. Yet that was what the guards were there for, and they hovered quite close to Kyil.

The booths were filled with a varity of items that fascinated Kyil endlessly. Though he was utterly non-combatant, Kyil found that some weapons for show quite grafel and pretty. Daggers and staff's that had decorations upon them caught his eye. Things that were bright or artisticlly wrought also gained his attention. What utterly enthralled him however was the jewelry booths.

"Ah! Oh!" He exclaimed as he came upon a table set up with all sorts of gemstones. The guards seemed partly amused by the sounds Kyil made, and one shook his head at him before turning about to scan the crowd. Kyil plucked from the table a hair clip made of bright blue feathers and sparkling pink stones.

"Oh! Oh how perfect this would match..." Kyil happily admired the manner the fairylight orb caused the gemstones to shine while he reached up to lightly touch the feathers decorating his left eye.

"Do you want it Sir?" One of the guards questioned him.

"Eh? Well..yes but I don't have..." Kyil began, then paused as the guard opened a pouch at his own waist to remove a pair of gold coins. Kyil himself had no coins or even a pouch to carry them in, so it had not occured to him that he would be able to purchase anytihng today.

As the one guard bartered with the merchant, the second kept an eye out in the crowd. he had a slightly uneasy feeling and kept glanceing over his shoulder. Kyil however was utterly wrapped up in his new accessory and was fussing with his hair to get it clipped in just the right place.

"This would be so much easier if I had a mirror... I can't see if it is too low or high...."

Mikaril saw the trio stopping at a table with gemstones and other manner of shinies and immediately stepped to the left, pretending to pause and admire some bolts of colored silk. He couldn't help but grin at the strange male's obvious enthusiasm for the trinkets, but all that was dashed out of his head as he saw one of the guards open a pouch and produce coin, which he handed to the male to purchase his baubles. Definitely some sort of escort, he thought. Going by his past experiences, escorts tended to fall into two categories; extremely crafty or extremely dull, and usually neither could be determined at just one glance.
He realized just in time that the silk merchant had registered his presence and was eagerly selling him a bill of goods. "We have many fine colors, young sir; for your mistress, or perhaps your sister....?" With a slight wince, he nodded, thanked the merchant and moved on to a booth selling cloaks and light armor. Better to keep moving so's not to arouse any suspicion. He did notice one of the guards looking into the crowd with obvious unease, but the image of the pouch of gold on the other guard's waist was burned into his mind like a brand, and he was determined to find out whether or not the guards fell into the lines of 'easy pickings'. Besides, he still found himself curious about the decorated male with the fondness for jewelry.

As Kyil fussed over his new accessory, his pair of guards kept on their independant watch. He did not question why the guard had paid for his item. He simply assumed that it had been paid for and now he woud wear it. The second of the pair turned his gaze back to Kyil after unsucessfully determining why he felt uneasy.

"You Lord I believe we should move on now, unless there is more you would like to purchase?"

Kyil shook his head, delighting in the fethery brush against his cheek. "Ah no no. This is fine. Let's keep moving. How long have we been gone?"

The guard that was toting the gold merely shrugged his shoulders in answer, though the keener one did have a answer for him. "Only one candlemark Lord. Did you wish to return at a set time?"

"No..no... I suppose not." There was no rush for him to return after all...though perhaps that was what was bothering him some? It would have been nice if he had had..a reason...other then waiting for his Mistress to return to him.

Kyil and his guards moved on, unaware of the young drow that was shadowing them. The guard that held the gold seemed less interested in watching his surroundings then his partner. While Kyil browsed he just stood at his shoulder in wait. Kyil thought for a moment to purchase Zari something as a gift...but..well.. making himself pretty might be enough to satisfy her...

The trio shifted through the crowd, and headed towards a actual shop. It was the glitter of sparkling white pants that caught Kyils eye and interest.

"OH! Ah! Look at how lovely those are! Let us go inside please! I wish to see if I can try those on....They look about my size!"

Mikaril finished his pretend-inspection of weather-resistant cloaks (where did they think they were selling; the damn surface?) and moved to the very jewel booth that the trio had been at moments before. He examined a few, trying hard to keep his nimble fingers from twitching, and purchased a pair of small jade earrings more for the sake of appearance than anything else. He paid with a larger coin, and he noticed that one of the coins he received back was none other than one of the pair of gold coins the guard had used. He inspected it for a few moments before putting it into his pocket with the rest; it didn't seem to have any markings that would indicate thief-detection. He was not a stranger to enchanted money, and the unremarkableness raised his hopes that perhaps the guards were able to be hit, or at least the one with the coins, since he had yet to see anything like a money pouch on the other, more watchful guard.
He watched as they entered a shop, and seizing the moment, he maneuvered through the crowd with precision until he was nearly at the entrance. His hopes rose at the decorated drow's words; purses were loosest right after purchases had been made; many souls tended to just stuff their pouches untidily back until they saw fit to adjust them.
He stopped at the entrance and appeared absorbed in viewing the wares from the window, while keeping an eye on the trio to see if they would indeed purchase something, and calculated when and how he would make the pull.

The observances of the drow following them was quite keen. The drow who had initially produced the coins did seem to be the only one wearing any sort of coin purse. After he had paid for the accessory, he had opened a small flap pouch attached to his belt and tucked the coin purse back into there. This particular belt pouch hadone other pouch attached to it, both of which were hung on his left side. On his right was where his sword sheath rested along with a dagger sheath beside it. The second drow, the one that kept a closer watch, had no sort of belt or outwardly visable pouchs on his person. He wore a uniform black scalemail shirt with plated leather leggings much like his companion. Of course Kyil wore no sort of belt pouch, but the accessories alone that he wore seemed to be made of a great many different gemstones and gold.

The trio entered the shop, and with much excitement Kyil was able to take the pants he had spied in the window into a back cubby to try on in privacy. During this time the two guards choose to take up positions leaning against the wall near the cubby to wait. It only took Kyil a few moments to change, as he had been wearing a wrap tie skirt that was hardly difficult to slip out of. Kyil took his time admireing the loose way the white pants drifted about his legs, and turned often just to see how the fairy light caught and sparkled upon it. Oh yes, he absulotly had to have these pants! Kyil did not wear pants often, but these ones had such a loose flow to them it was really like wearing a different sort of skirt!

The merchant, as most merchants do, attempted to make a few more accessory sales to go with the pants, but Kyil seemed less interested in anything not nearly as pretty as the pants, and vanished to once more change. Over all the whole process took little over fifteen minutes, during which time both of the guards seemed too disciplined to wander more then three steps away from Kyil's general area.

Again the same guard pulled the thick purse from his pouch, and again he pulled out a few yellow coins to make the payment for the object of Kyils current desire. He recieved a small amount of silver coins back that of course ended up thumb tucked into the same pouch. Though he did not bother to fix the flap securely as Kyil had exited the change cubby.

With the purchase made, and Kyils new pants wrapped and tied in a brown paper package, the trio exited the shop together with Kyil in the lead. He was quite happy, excited really. Never before had he had the freedom to purchase new cloths for himself, he had always used whatever had been provided for him. Though now...

"My feet are getting a bit sore from all this walking...let's find someplace to sit down a bit before heading back home." Making decisions seemed so easy when he did not have someone doing anything but nodding their head at him.

"There is a tavern halfway down the street Lord. Not too bad a place for our sort of company. They have some nice spirits there too."

"Ah, well then show me this place. I'd like to see it." Kyil happily agreed to the suggestion.

Seeing the one drow vanish into the dressing area, Mikaril allowed himself a few minutes to observe the crowd and the wares close at hand. He saw nothing particularly interesting; the items that he was looking to purchase must be further into the marketplace, or in another part altogether. Normally he would hate staying this far away from his house for this long, but two of his brothers were engaged in a massive city-wide hunt, and he was sure that his mother and sister's focus would not be on him for some time.
That suited him fine. Despite being so close to the surface, he loved the freedom of being able to roam the Underdark rather than stay in a house that to him resembled a matron mother's coffin; elaborate and beautiful on the outside, full of nastiness and rot on the inside. He knew that at any given time, Matron Dilayne might change her mind and forbid him his excursions, so he made sure to make the most of each one.
He idly picked at his fingernails, then tensed as he saw the trio beginning to emerge from the shop. His gaze drifted down to the guard's left side, where the purse seemed to beckon with its loose folds.
"Here we go," he mumbled to himself, cracking his fingers and wriggling them to limber up. He stepped into the throng and put on an air of determination and impatience, as though he had someplace to get to and fast.
He brushed past the guard with the same impatience, and quick as a wink, his hand was shooting out and closing around the pouch.

((I'll leave it up to you whether or not the guard feels it.))

Mikarils fingers would successfully pinch the pouch of coins from the guardsman. His attention was not so keep as his partners and he was rather distracted by the excited manner Kyil seemed to hold himself in. Together they continued on, for the most part unaware of the theft. Quite fortunate for Mikaril, until it was the guard reached down to secure his pouch flap as a second thought and felt the emptiness of it.

"Hey...my coin purse is gone!" He exclaimed, his hand patting his belt for a second. Both Kyil and the second guard paused and turned. Kyil was unaccustomed to things like pick pocketing, so it was he could only stand and blink in confusion. The second guard though was far more street savvy.

His red eyes flicked through the crowd with a narrowed gaze. It only took him a couple of moments to recall whom passed close to them within the ten second period of time they had exited the shop.

"There, that one." He said, lifting his hand to point at Mikaril. "In the green cloak. Hey you, come here!"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 21, 2008 5:48 pm

His heart pounding and every fiber of his being thrumming with adrenaline, Mikaril successfully pulled and broke away, rapidly shoving the purse into a pocket on the inside of his cloak. Keeping up the pretense of needing to be somewhere, he continued to move at a brisk trot, but since he no longer had his face toward the freshly robbed group, he let his childish face break into a wide grin.
His grin diminished, though didn't quite vanish, when he heard the shout behind him. Come here, he says! he thought with a hysterical sort of amusement. Is he serious? Not even pausing to acknowledge what he felt was a silly demand, he broke into a sprint and wove his way through the crowd like a cat being chased, his green cloak billowing slightly behind him.
Any other thief would have rid himself of the cloak, since it was so noticeable, but Mikaril would have given up an eye first. Eye-catching though it was, it had sentimentral value as well as the face-saving function of covering his features, namely his ears. The remnants of his sister's curse was growing more visible, so much to him that he rarely lowered his hood at all these days. No, the cloak stayed, but that meant he would have to really be fast and sneaky in order to lose the guard.
He dashed into the entrance to an alley and tried to ignore the garbage and worse he knew he was stepping in. He spotted a rough-looking fence halfway down and managed a quick albeit undignified scramble over it. Once he landed, he crouched down, leaning his back against a building, peeking through a crack between the boards. He figured that one, he was less likely to be spotted when he wasn't at eye level, and two, they had several options to consider when they spotted nothing but a fence; do they plow through it (he would then cover himself to avoid flying splinters and let them pass), or do they try to go around and cut him off, or check to see if he had scaled the buildings and was now on a roof?
Forcing himself to breathe slowly, he pulled his cloak tighter around himself and watched for the trio.

The guards were already certain that Mikaril was the thief. When it was he broke out into a run it only validated the mens thoughts. Pushing visciously at the crowd, the pair strong armed their way after their target.

Leaving Kyil standing behind looking on with wild eyed confusion at his guards. It took him a few moments before his confusion cleared enough for him to realize... he was getting left behind! Which of course was not such a good thing really. He wasn't supposed to be out by himself, he was certain his Mistress would be greatly displeased if he just stood there like a stone statue.

So it was that Kyil set off as well. His feet darting quickly through the rapidly closeing gap his guards had parted with brute force through the crowd.

Of the two guards, the one who had seemed more keen eyed was the quicker one. He led the way, with the second guard doggedly keeping up. And Kyil of course lagging behind. The guards did not hesitate to enter the ally. Smell or not, they did not concern themselves with their hardened leather boots providing them all the protection they could want right now. Kyil drew up short though.

Hovering outside the foul smelling stretch, he watched and listened as his guards tore down the ally. It reeked...and Kyil was not wearing anything like what the guards were on his feet. He peered down at the blue dyed silk slippers. They were going to be ruined beyond saving if he went down the ally.... but if he didn't...

Kyil could hear the faint milling of people at his back. He was certain if he tried hard enough he could wander back to the House. Still...he did not feel comfortable walking the streets alone, with no clear idea of where he was, and no guards at his side. Mistress would be so very displeased....

The two guards had, at this point, reached the fence. The quicker one cast a quick glance around him, then turned to point off down one way. "Go around and see if you can catch him on the other side. I'm going up above to see if I can spy him out." Well, there were their plans. Simple as they were. The one whose purse he had lifted charged down the side ally, while the quicker guard followed him only partway. He searched the walls, seeking a area that provided him with enough hand holds to climb to the top of the building.

Kyil plucked up the hem of his skirt when the two guards vanished from his sight and took off down a side ally. He couldn't just stand out there and wait! Still, he felt slightly sick as he very gingerly picked his path down the refuse filled ally. He shuddered with each sickening squish he felt under his slippers. The gold anklets flashed with each step he took, and Kyils attention was focused more on where he was stepping then anything else.

"W-wait! Don't...don't leave me alone!" He called pleadingly to the guards. They were probably beyond hearing range at this point. "Oh...I am...not....doing this ...ever again!" His head lifted, and he paused, holding his skirt tightly clentche in both of his fists. "Guards? Guards?" Wonderful...he'd lost them!
PostPosted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 1:06 pm

As he peered through the gap in the fence, Mikaril spotted the pair of guards charging into the alley. He looked behind them for the colorful drow, but he wasn't there. His eyebrows disappeared into his bangs. They'd left their charge behind! Which convinced him beyond a shadow of a doubt that the pair was not half as smart as he had figured.
He heard them begin to plow down the alley like a pair of boulders rolling downhill, and he quickly pressed himself as close as he could to the wall of the building and covered himself as best he could with his cloak. When he didn't hear any crash or feel any splinters rain down on his head, he shifted slightly and peered out with one eye.
He heard the guards conversing and frowned. With those plans, his best bet would be to stay put and pray to some deity (besides Lolth) that the guards had bad enough eyesight not to see him crouching down there with the garbage. He could hear the sounds of the other one trying to scale the wall, and he had a feeling that to a drow looking down, he wouldn't be fooling anyone.
Thinking fast, he decided that surprise would be his greatest asset, and who better to spring it on than the one who was currently looking for something else? He raised his head and looked at the fence, trying to ignore the shufflings coming from the other side, and noting all the various possible handholds. He flexed his fingers, bobbed his body up and down to get the kinks out, then he leaped up and grasped the fence, hauling himself up as fast as he could.
With several muscle groups howling their protest, he leaped over the fence and landed lightly on the ground, glad that his cloak hadn't gotten caught on any planks; THAT would have been one hell of an embarassing entrance. He saw the guard and sprinted past him, the upper part of his body lowered and hoping that the sudden entrance and the whipping of his cloak had startled the guard enough so that he wouldn't reflexively reach out and grab him.
Had he not been so keen on reaching the main throng, he might have heard the small pleads coming from near the mouth of the alley, and he would have taken into consideration that there might be one more obstacle to overcome before reaching his goal. But such as it was, he had all but forgotten the guards' charge, and as he chanced a glance behind him to see if the guard was following, he ran smack into Kyil. Puny as he was, the force was enough to knock him down, with just enough breath left in him to sit there in the mud, blinking up at Kyil in surprise.

The guard whom had barreled on down the ally was unaware of Mikaril's flourishing reappearance. It was the one climbing the wall that spied him. Quite the easy feat really with such a colored cloak clashing against the dark walls of the ally. As Mikaril dashed on past, he gave a shout to the other guard, and let go of his hold on the wall. He needed just a spare second to land before he was back giving chase after the thief.

The second guard stumbled to a halt and turned, his crimson eyes blinking in surprise as he huffed heavily. "Damn...bloody...thieves..." He grunted before he turned about and continued his lagging chase from further behind.

Kyil saw the thief coming. Honestly he did. but he was in a terrible spot. With some puddle of unidentified liquid to his left, and a lump of something foul and lumpy to the right. Kyil twisted a little so he could back track his steps. Sadly such carefulness was quite slow...and Mikaril was coming quite fast. Their bodys smacked off each other with a heavy 'thud'. Mikaril fell as he did, and Kyil fell as well. Thrust backwards, he landed with a small 'thump' right on his pretty skirted butt.

Kyil's face immediatly became a mask of sick disgust as he felt the wetness beneath him. His hands lifted, as if somehow dropping them lower then his chest would submerge them in the filth he was currently seated in. "Gneh-nah-ah!" He choked. Oh! He had no idea what he was sitting in but his mind was flickering dreadful nasty things through it.

The guard that had been quick on Mikaril's tail snapped his hands out at the thief when he closed the gap. His intention was really quite simple. Grab the thief and smash him in the back of the head if he so much as jerked away. If he could manage to get his hands on the damn little blighter!
PostPosted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 4:38 pm

Mikaril blinked once more as he saw the colorful drow fall down in front of him. He stared at him for a second, but as he saw the face the other made when he saw what he had just soiled his nice clothes in, Mikaril's mouth began to twitch, and he made a strange sound in his throat. Before he could do anything to stop it, he was starting to laugh; not unkindly, but at the look on the other's face; he must have never been a page prince and had to empty refuse buckets, to make such a face!
As he laughed, he heard footsteps behind him like approaching thunder, and he felt a grip like iron on his shoulder, fingers that seemed as thick as gate bars digging painfully into his shoulder as though no armor was there. He knew that if he made a move, it would be a lot more painful, now that the guard had a good grip on him, so he did what sounded logical to him; he went partially limp.
He knew from experience that deadweights were a lot harder to carry and keep a good hold on that someone who struggles. Granted, that would solve nothing once the other guard caught up, but when he got caught, his top priority was to stay alive and as unscathed as possible until a means of escape presented itself.
He deliberated acting as though he had fainted and making the guards think he was even more helpless than he was, but two of those meaty fingers on his neck feeling his pulse would blow a hole in THAT ploy. Better to just keep eyes open and posture submissive until a better solution came along.

The laughter pulled Kyil's worried gaze from the ground and to the thief that had run into him. He was worried about how he was going to get up personally. There was no way he was going to touch the ground in order to rise! Still, the laughter was unexpected so it drew his thoughts away from the nastyness of the ally for a few moments.

"Why...don't laugh! It's so..ugh! I'm afraid to touch the ground!" Kyil began to protest at first. It was about then that the guard arrived, and grasped hold of Mikaril as tightly as he could. Thieves were tricky bastards after all, and Mikaril confirmed his belief when his body began to slump.

The guard was not going to let the thief go. Whether or not he slumped all weak limbed. He reached to his belt, and loosened his blade from it's scabbard. From where Kyil was sitting, he could see a very ugly expression on the guards face as he pulled his elbow back.

"What are you doing!?" Kyil exclaimed, which caused the guard to hesitate.

"He stole from Lady Zariira." The guard quite calmly explained to Kyil. "I'm making certain he never has a chance to do so again."

Kyil had of course seen violent acts from his room window before. he was not so blind as to believe that drow did not kill drow. however...seeing a slight movement and hearing a cut off cry was not the same as seeing a guardsman about to run a man through from behind whom was sitting only a few feet from you! Kyil lifted his hands, flapping them madly so the bangles uon his wrists clattered loudly.

"No no no! Don't you do that! I... I don't want you to do that!" He was supposed to be more...assertive right? At least this was the impression he had gotten from his mistress. Though he shamefully felt that his voice was sorely lacking in the commanding vibe area.

Reguardless of how his voice carried, the guard was not going to disobay Kyil's direct order. It was about this time that the second guard arrived, huffing faintly to a stop beside the trio.

"What's- going- on- now?" He panted while casting glances between his fellow guard, the thief, and Kyil.

"Seems the young Consort is afraid of seeing blood spilled." Though he tried to mute the sneering tone of his words Kyil distinctively noted it. His cheeks turned a slight darker shade as a result.

"Just...just don't hurt him...and ...help me up...please." Perhaps that please was a mistake? Kyil was not too certain really. Reguardless of mistakes or not, his Mistress was reason enough for the guards to obay even a flimsy drow such as himself. The second guard reached a hand down to hook it under Kyils arm so as to heft him to his feet. The first guard, holding onto Mikaril, poked at the thief at the same time with his blade.

"Up thief. Now."
