The grey faced black Windclan warrior always took his job too seriously. He would rather be on look-out duty than playing near the dens. He would rather be hunting than wooing the girls. He would rather be at war than at peace. It helped him forget of his heart, which another had left broken so long ago.
Graymask sighed deeply, the breeze playing with his ebony fur. He was hunting, but noting was showing itself so far. His paws lightly touched the heat-seared earth trying not to burn themselves in the process. It. Was. Hot.
"When will the rains come?" he mewed, "When will I be able to heal?" He liked the rain, it was his friend. He let his mind wander off as his aimlessly prowled about.
There was a female back at the clan's home that he had taken a fancy for. She had beautiful black fur, such as his, and a splash of bright colors around her face and throat. It was like a colorful mask! But Greymask, being socially shy, had no courage to ask her to join him on a hunt or something along those lines. The great black cat sighed again. It was time to rest. He found a nice tree and sat in he shade, not really looking at or for anything. Just sitting...

It was hard for Brightbird to stay in a good mood in this heat, but somehow she managed to keep a smile on her face. She always told herself that if she could stay strong, then maybe it would boost the morale of her clanmates. Especially since high spirits was a good thing to have for such an eventful greenleaf.
She padded out of camp and out onto the moor, hoping to maybe find some prey or even a puddle to drink water from. Those were hard to find these days, but she'd feel better doing that than lazing around the camp.
As she walked, senses alert for signs of prey, she noticed a tree. It spread quite a bit of shade, which looked inviting in such hot weather. Maybe she could rest for a little bit there? As she got closer, she saw a black tom who probably had the same idea when he saw the shade.
"Hello," she decided to call to him.

Greymask froze when he heard the female's voice call out to him. His fur ruffled a little bit, but not in a threatening fashion. He was nervous. There she was, the at that he had a fancy for.
Flushing red under his fur, Greymask leaped to his gray-washed paws. "H-hello!" he yelped, "Um....you look hot. I mean, hot as in the weather!" He looked at the dry ground embarresed. He made yet another foo himself.
As if a last minute thought, he added, "Do...you want to share the shade?"

Brightbird let out a small giggle and said, "Yes, I am hot and yes, I would like some shade, thank you." She sat next to him, trying to maintain a smile, despite the weather. To keep her thoughts off the heat, she decided to try having a conversation with the tom. "So... what brings you away from the camp today?"

"Well," he sheepishly admitted, "I was hunting. But I'm not suceeding." He drug his claws through the dirt in frustration. His orange eyes narrowed as he watched a pattern unfold from under his velvet paws.
"What are you doing out here?" he suddenly asked, snapping from his zone-out, "Not a lot of females come out here. The terrain is too rough for most. Or are you one that likes the water?"

Brightbird nodded absent-mindedly to Greymask's response. Then she let her mind wander as she gazed out at the moor.
But she focused again when she heard his question. "Well I'm a tough one," she giggled. "And I do like the water. I was actually hoping to find some out here, but I can't seem to find any wet places." She sighed. RiverClan is lucky that they have a river.

Greymask looked out at the drying creek and sighed. His tail thrashed in annoyence. Why was it so hot? When would the life-restoring rains come?
"There is some water," he muttered, "But I am not sure if it is enough to play in." He cast his bright eyes to the cracked ground. Being a black cat out in this heat had more downsides than the large cat could count.
"How do you feel about this heat? Imean, having black fur and all. I personally hate it," he mewed trying to start a conversation.

"Well I don't see how any cat can enjoy the heat," Brightbird replied. "Having long, black fur just makes it worse. But then, long black fur is good during the winter."
She could feel the sun beating down it's rays on her back, making her feel as if she were on fire. She held her head down, trying to keep it away from the sun, but that didn't do much. "So where is some water? Some is better than none." Her mouth felt as dry as the ground looked.
