;D Hey guys! I survived my weeklong Canadian college orientation wilderness camping!

Whew.

One of the topics that seemed big when I was out in the woods was Sasquatch and the Chupacabra as well as other various creatures of the unknown.

Which got me wondering what some of you guys thought of these creatures!

As in:

Which are you most interested in?
Which do you believe are real?
Which do you think could have been real, but have become extinct?

Big foot, nesse, and both chupacabras are real.

Hope you had fun at camp. |3

There was this really awesome/bizarre/terrifying legend I read about a while ago, but can't find anymore. Somewhere (I can't remember where, it could be anywhere from Africa to the Philippines), there's a legend of this man that comes by once every while, steals into your home, and rapes the man of the house. Superstition goes that if the victim speaks of this to anybody, the man comes back to rape him again. Of course, I dunno if it's true, but it's a really weird cryptozoological/cryptoandronical occurence that I thought I'd share.

We had rumours in my hometown (kinda small, population 11,000), that there was some kind of big cat stalking around the place, like a panther. Now, bear in mind I live in Scotland, where we don't so much as have a wolf around... It was pretty weird.

We also have a guy named "Cat-Man" in our locale. No-one knows who he is, where he came from, or if he really exists. He's like a really washed-out version of the Bunnyman.

Anyway. Sorry to take up your time with human-oriented cryptids. |D

I'm not really convinced either way of the existence of any cryptids, but I'd like to believe Nessie is real. XD

Hey, isn't there a news story going round about some guy finding Bigfoot and shoving him in a freezer or something?

Yes. Apparently the DNA tests that were supposedly done are inconclusive. There was one taken that came back human, which could be from contamination and the other came back as possum, but that one was taken from the intestine of the animal.

I still think it's sketchy that they haven't just taken it to a university or something to let them study it. Especially since when they guy was asked how much money they were going to make off of it he said "As much as we can."

Here's the thing. exactly WHAT do you look for in a DNA test of a creature that isn't really suppoed to exist?

O: Wowowow.

I love the thought of a Water Horse, you know, some big mean lake monster that rips your boat in two. As well as Nessy.

As for Sasquatch, I DEFINATLY believe in them. I mean, aren't there cave paintings of them? I believe in the Great American Ape.

There is a man who found Big Foot! But... like... stuffed it in his freezer like a douche-bag and the authorities won't spill the beans!

If it's a new creature it's not going to come back with weird results like human or possum. It's going to be something no one can identify for sure, but probably close to primates as that's what the bigfoot is considered to be.

I just think that if they actually had a bigfoot in their freezer they'd be trying a little harder to get people to believe them. And no, I don't believe there's some government conspiracy to hide the existence of something like an undiscovered hominid.

I only just looked that film up on Wikipedia, and it's only just now occured to me that the water horse in the movie is linked to Kelpies or Nessie. Heh. |D;;;

I've always had this mixed admiration/awe and downright fear of Really Big Seamonsters. I love the idea of there being these colossal beings that lurk under the ocean, and I can completely overwhelm myself just thinking about being in the presence of something like Leviathan or the Kraken and just not being able to comprehend the sheer size of it. I'd be lying if I said I never look out to sea and wish that a monster would rear up out of the waves. >_>

Really? I kinda guessed that from the second trailer I saw. >.>

If I remember correctly, there was some proof that REALLY big sea monsters can't exist anymore, but I can't remember what it is. It definitely had something to do with change in climate though.

O: The Waterhorse is an actual Scottish legend.

Shame shame, you didn't know of it.

I wasn't talking about the film either.

Yeah, but the actual Scottish legend of the water horse (the kelpie) is that it appears a lost pony appears and attracts a rider, which it then drags below the depths of the lake. It probably wouldn't cleft your boat in twain.

I thought the Kelpie and the Waterhorse were two different entities. The Waterhorse coming from the sea, the Kelpie being of the marsh. Heheh.

I like the Kraken and Sea Bishop. It would be possible that both exist...
PostPosted: Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:42 am

As far as the Kraken goes, we do have proof of giant squids, so that's probably where the story came from. I mean, they're not as big as these sailors claimed they were, but they are pretty damn scary and very big. I know I wouldn't hesitate to claim it was a Kraken if it was me who saw a giant squid.

I like the stories of the shapeshifters... I know they're not possible, really, but they're very awesome. I also like the idea of Nessy, or even the Lake Champlain monster, Champ. Again, extremely unlikely to downright impossible, but quite cool.

I don't know how I feel about things like Sasquatch or the Chupacabra, it just seems like crazy people looking for something to justify the creepy feelings they had in the forests.

Except, those creepy feelings have now supposedly produced bodies.
Heheh.

Shapeshifters sound cool, going off track just a might bit, another scary thing that people brought up while we were in the woods were these entities called skinwalkers?

I think they're more out west, but apparently they're pissed off Native American Spirits and it's extreme bad juju to encounter one.
