Opening her eyes, Blossom found herself floating in a world full of pink clouds and clear skies. She rubbed her eyes to make sure it was real, but the scenery stayed the same. She was sure it was a dream, and yet she couldn't escape from it, not that she wanted to. It was peaceful here, but she felt that something was wrong.

Helios found himself in a dream of his own, full of sparkling stars and an impossibly blue sky. He felt a warm gentle wind push his hair back and he caught glimpses of long white feathers and felt his shoulder muscles moving up and down with a powerful and graceful rhythm. He smiled as he recognized the form he took, and he looked up to where the blue sky darkened slightly. He tensed his muscles and beat his pegasus wings once powerfully, which sent him shooting up into the sky until he was out in space, surrounded by rainbows of shooting stars. Completely at ease, he flew about, trying to catch the comets.

Smiling, she realized that she could float around this strange world. With a single thought, she gently rose upwards and swooped gracefully down, enjoying the feeling. She sent herself on a course barely skimming the clouds above and below, wondering how long this dream would last. With a pang of terror, she suddenly noticed a dark cloud slowly swallowing her surroundings, and her heart beat faster as she drew closer to a black vortex. She noticed that the flute Helios had given her before appeared in her paws, and she blew a single, clear note to ask for help.

Helios stopped just as he felt his hoof-paws closing around a rainbow star. He heard a clear note cutting through the heavens with the precision of a knife, reaching his ears and subconsciously urging him to follow. A strange sound escaped from his throat, a sound he could only assume was a pegasus' whinny, and with one tremendous beat of his wings, he shot off like an arrow in the sound's direction. In minutes he saw a dark cloud straight ahead, and he was positive that the note had come from inside of it. Not even slowing, he shot into the cloud, shuddering at its evil touch. He thought he spotted Blossom in the midst of it and as he neared, he could see a golden glow bouncing off of the dark mist as his horn began glowing like a beacon.

Blossom could only stare in terror as the dark mist started surrounding her. She couldn't move, paralyzed by the darkness. "No, not again.." she pleaded to no one in particular.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a glowing shape came into her vision, and slowly, she made out a horn, and she figured it must be a pegasus. "Helios," she whispered, remembering his fondness for pegasi.

Helios heard Blossom's voice and turned to fix her with his big brown eyes. They glimmered with recognition and even warmth, then they hardened and he turned to the surrounding dark mist. His horn shone and seemed to create an orb of light aroud them both. He turned and looked at Blossom, nickering softly. For an instant, it seemed as though he had become Helios again in an eyeblink, long enough to say, "We can beat it, but we must do it together, or else it will only come back again."

Blossom saw the recognization in his eyes, and sighed with relief. He had come to her rescue, just like he promised. "But, what can I do?" she asked, unsure of what her role was. "Should I just play a melody?"

Helios' broad brow crinkled, and his eyes registered confusion. "I.....am not sure." His ears flattened as he felt the darkness seem to recover itself somewhat from his unexpected entrance, and was sending out inky black tentacles to writhe at their feet. Helios angrily stamped on one, crushing it. He looked at Blossom urgently. "It's trying to regain its strength. I'll hold them off until you feel what you should do. I'm sorry, but I feel that this is something you alone can discover." With a snort, he charged a few yards ahead of Blossom and reared up, stamping on the darkness adn tossing his head, as though throwing invisible impaled bodies off of his horn.

Blossom stared at the ground, scuffling away from the black inklings slowly creeping up towards her. She didn't know what to do and the darkness was growing stronger. She was afraid that Helios wouldn't be able to take it much longer. Panicking wasn't good, so she tried to put her mind at rest, thinking. How could she help?

Helios grew increasingly more frustrated as he beat back the inky dark tentacles. It was like stepping on smoke, smoke that didn't just dissipate but wafted somewhere else and regrouped to grasp at him again. He looked back once to see if Blossom was still alright, and a wad of darkness leaped up with the speed of a cheetah and latched itself to his horn. With a whinny he threw it off and looked back at Blossom. "The darkness seems to be getting stronger! Is anything coming to you yet, my friend?"

Helios was in danger, and Blossom couldn't take it anymore. She lifted the flute to her lips, hoping it would work. "Here goes nothing," she murmured, taking in a deep breath. She blew out a single, clear note, and the darkness shrank back a little. She continued playing, slowly driving the darkness back.

Helios heard the sweet notes and turned to look at Blossom encouragingly. "Yes, that's working! Keep at it; I think it's effecting me as well as the darkness!" As if in emphasis, Helios' glow began to turn from silver to a slight pinkish tint, and the darkness as a result seemed to shrink with just a look from his brown eyes. "At this rate, we can breach the darkness and attack its heart."

Blossom nodded, her eyes glowing with the pleasure at driving back the darkness. She continued to play into the flute, magic spreading through the air. "It's heart?" she murmured while taking in a short breath before continuing.

Helios managed a nod as he began to shimmer like a great winged night light. "Everything has a heart, even darkness. A center, a life force. If we can find the heart, we can stop the darkness at it's source, and it may never come back again." He pointed his horn at the darkness, and it lit up and pierced the farkness for a few feet before the dark seemed to gather itself back and resist the light. He turned to Blossom and gestured with his head. "This way. The closer we get, the thicker and stronger the darkness." He began to slowly walk forward, his aura lighting the way.

Blossom trailed after Helios, continuing to play a random tune. She wondered how this had happened, how this had all started. As they wandered further, the darkness became stronger, and Blossom felt every heartbeat like a weight. It was closing in on her, but she wouldn't give up. "Are we there yet?" she asked, starting to feel a little unsure.
