He tip-toed across the savannah, eyes darting nervously from side to side as he went.
It was his first time alone out in the wilderness of the roguelands, his first time away from family, friends and his pride. He felt vulnerable, he felt terrified! He felt the most uninspiring emotions ever! Which was awful, really, considering he'd left the lands to make his drum quest in order to find his muse.
But if his muse was kept at bay by his fear he'd be useless at playing the drum for the rest of his life!!
He paused, crouched and gave a low whimper, heading for the shelter of a clump of trees.
He hated the open space. He just wanted to hide!!

Jishin, on the other hand, loved every moment of being alone. Though she had just fell for a lovely male lion and felt that just sometimes it's good to at least have one person close to you. But other then that she loved being alone. Open space made it easy for her to catch someone trying to sneak up on her. She was laying on a rather big rock that stuck out of the grass a few feet. She liked that rock. Not only did it keep her warm when she wanted to be warm, but it was like her look out. Next to her rock was a nice big tree. It was one of the only ones in the area. Tall as ever and kept shade on half of her body.
She saw something move, but at first didn't think anything of it since when she looked, she didn't see anything. but taking a closer look She saw in the distance some type of creature. A Feline for sure, but what type? She'd never seen it before. She watched it as it moved closer towards her. Her tail flicking.

The drum knocked against his forelegs as he moved. It was his most beautiful, prized possession and he loved it with all of his heart. It was brown, still plain, but he promised himself that once inspiration was his he would decorate it.
Until then he would stay unmarked.
He continued onwards, testing the air with his nose, moving slowly and quietly, hoping not to be noticed. Little did he know that he already had been noticed!
And he didn't notice the other feline until it was too late. He glanced up and saw her sitting on the rock, looking at him.
Kani'noe froze and lowered himself submissively. "Um...hello?" He squeaked. Using a paw to press the drum close to his chest.

Curious creature this was, Jishin thought. He was carrying something that was quite odd, and didn't look at all like it'd be comfortable. And it really wasn't that quiet either. How did this creature handle that thing? He ear twitched as soon as the other spotted her looking at him. She didn't move thought, but continued to stare. Then it spoke. Giving Jishin the idea that it was a male. Odd feline at that. She'd never seen something like him.
To her, he resembled a lion, yet a bit of leopard too. She gave a frown at the thought of it. Leopards were nothing but trouble. Having had recently been wounded by one, as well having her own leopard mother leave her when she was a cub. "What do you want."She said rudely to the thing in front of her.

He flinched at her words and drew back nervously. Everything in him told him to flee, but he was held by her gaze, trembling at the thought of being killed.
He knew this would happen. He knew this would happen. Dammit he knew this would happen!
He gave a low whimper and realised he hadn't answered her question. "I...I'm looking for something." He held the drum tighter to him, afraid that it might suddenly escape and roll away.

Jishin liked to see other's in fear, it made her feel big. She eyed him for a moment, and realize he could kill over from too much fright. "I'm not going to kill you, if that's what your thinking." She simply said rolling her ruby eyes. If she wanted to kill him it would have already been done. Though, she didn't know if she could ever bring herself to killing anyone. Especially something that looked like a lion. She had a longing to be a lion. "What are you looking for out here?" She raised a brow.

He blinked and gave her an unsure but kindly little smile. He stretched out his neck and sniffed delicately, memorising her scent.
Would she really not hurt him?
Well...if she was going to hurt him she would have done it by now, right? Besides, it wasn't as if he was going to do anything to make her angry. He looked up at her, shyly, and nodded.
"This is...my first time out alone." He said in his quiet voice. "I'm...I'm looking for my inspiration. I'm looking for the song...in my soul." He indicated his drum by loosening his grip on it and gesturing with a tilt of his soft muzzle. "See? My drum. I made it, but I can't play it yet."

She looked at him as if he was pathetic. What was he rambling about? He pointed to the odd thing around his neck that he called a drum. Strange thing she'd never be caught dead with. She glared at him for a moment, thinking he might be playing some trick on her or something. But then figured he'd be too timid to do such an act. Though, she really didn't know him.
"Well, lucky I'm not in a mood to hurt someone." She said kinda mean. She had to make him a little more frightened for the fun of it. "Other's won't be so generous." She told him and pulled a paw up to where she saw the bottom of it. Extending her claws a bit and started to examine them. As if they needed to be sharper. She gave them a lick, and then set her paw back down across her other one, looking back at him. Now will a dull bored look upon it.

He pulled the drum to his chest again and whimpered. It seemed this girl might have had a pretty face but she certainly didn't have a pretty personality. He wouldn't say so, of course, because that would fuel her anger and he didn't want that.
He did wonder, though, why she wasn't very happy.
So, in order to change the subject, he continued. "Are you a lion too?" He was unaware of his hybrid state as yet, but as he grew and the differences became more obvious it was only a matter of time before someone told him he wasn't a pureblood lion. "You look different from other lionesses I know. Smaller." He added hastily. "You look pretty though." Never insult a girl, ever. He'd learnt that one from the beginning.

"No, I'm not a lion." She said truthfully. She really couldn't tell if he was a lion or not. She had yet to really get a glimpse of his tail Nor would she really know what a lion cub looked like. She'd only met adult ones. She eased up a bit on being mean. Her face looked more relaxed. Lions were one of the only friends she would dare to take.
"I'm also not full grown. Or I don't think I am." She said as he told her she looked small. Of course, that was no problem with her. She was never really big, nor really small. She was just the size she was suppose to, in her mind. "I'm Jishin" She said trying to be more on a friendly note now.

"Oh." Kani'now drew himself up into a sitting position and lifted his ears curiously. Then what was she? She certainly looked like a lion - except for those subtle differences. Maybe if he'd taken the time to look at the differences in his own appearance he would have begun to suspect.
"Me neither." He replied, though it was quite obvious he was still a young cat. "I'm Kani'noe, from the Nchi'mahadhi pride. So...you're a rogue?"
She put him a little on edge but on the whole, she wasn't that bad, right? "Pleased to meet you."

She nodded at his question. "Yes, I belong to no pride." She said. She really couldn't see herself bound to one unless she found someone special who wanted to be in a pride. Which, she didn't see herself finding anyone special. Ever. Not like she cared at the moment. Other's found her unpleasant, and rude, but this was how she was when first meeting another.
"Charmed." She said to his name. She was sure he wasn't really pleased to meet her. "If your wondering, I'm half Cheetah." She said. Other then that, she was nothing else. Just half cheetah. If he asked what she was half of else, she'd say she forgot. Though, it wasn't like she really could forget, was it?

He lifted an ear. "No pride? But...isn't it lonely out here?" He thought of his friends and family, thought how wonderful they were. Without him he'd probably be depressed...or dead. He owed a lot to his pride; his survival being one of the main things.
"I think I'd be sad without one."
A slight smile lit his face and then he blinked curiously. "Half cheetah? How can you only be half of something?" He flicked his tail around his paws. "I...don't understand."

"More like peaceful." She told him. Though, it was lonely, but she'd never admit it to this male here. He didn't need to know that she wanted at least someone around once in a while. Perhaps she'd adopt a pet, or take on a slave, or something. She flicked her tail and watched him with her dark ruby eyes.
A frown fell on her face." Meaning I'm half cheetah and something else." She spat at him. "Meaning two different types of cats made me." She explained She hated explaining the obvious to dim witted creatures. She was back to glaring at him. A touchy subject.

Peaceful.
Well, Kani'noe did like peace, but he didn't like quiet. However, he doubted any place in the world was truly quiet. He'd learned that there was noise everywhere, from bird song to the babble of water. The world was not built to be quiet.
He glanced longingly at his drum, but he made no move to beat it.
"You must be extra special and rare, then." Kani replied. "I don't think that would happen very often." He smiled, feeling somewhat more comfortable now. True, he had never met another like her, but he was quite happy to ignore the somewhat irritated tone in return for a conversation.
"I haven't met a half-cheetah, but I have met a cheetah before..." Come to think of it, he wasn't the most friendliest cat either...maybe it was a cheetah thing. And if that was the case then it certainly wasn't her fault.
He lifted both ears then. "Well, if you ever do get lonely I'm sure you could visit our pride. It's not an all-lion pride either, so no one would get grumpy or anything. It's a really nice place...well, I like it."
