Well, since VendTrends isn't online (I was soooo close, stupid MySQL update evil ), I thought I'd make a thread that will sorta/kinda/not really take it's place, temporarily. Let the fun begin! This month we're blessed with the September'05 Donation Letter, which contains the Pandy Pack or Hard Shell Backpack: As with most months, the pre-release letter price averaged around 6-6.5k, which honestly is not too bad (though higher than the 5k that I'm used to). Since the release, unopened letters are now at 7k, with the items averaging 6.8-7.2k. This isn't a great sign, as the majority of items pique soon after release and then drop about 1-2k in value. That would leave us with the Sept'05 items at around 5-5.5k in the next few days. All in all, nothing spectacular, but nothing horrible. No real short term boon here. As for long term, I think that these items are trying to piggy-back on the popularity of the Kiki-Kitties and Robo-Puppies. Those items though were the first of their kind, and well, second best isn't exactly going to work out well for this bunch. I think the popularity of these items will be average, but they won't see a significant gain in value (10k+) for many months, possibly at least 5-6. If you bought them via monitary donation, hold on to them, as selling them now will only get you a small profit above 5k. In time they'll mature enough to be worth at least twice as much.

I think you can actually 'hide' in the shell and become just that image. Which is pretty cute and unique but I don't see it going as far as the kiki has.
Sorry if you didn't want us posting in here. You can delete if you like.

Nah, I encourage discussion. Hell, I'm wrong sometimes, so if you disagree with what I say, go for it.

The turtle shell is such a rip off of Mario Bros.

My guess is in the end it will probably level out to about 20-30k in five or six months, but it will take a very long time for it to get anywhere near 50k, not only because of a lack of popularity, but also because of the enormous bulk that exist.

It probably won't reach 20k for at least 10-12 months. Hell, the Oct'04 items are amost a year old, and they just went past 25k. The Nov'04 items are still at 10k xd
It anything, this is yet another dud item. I was disappointed (as I have been for the last many months, sans KiKi). This is what we term a "long term investment."
On the other hand, we're still in the buy period, so prices may slightly go up soon after Oct. 1st. Hardly a bump in the longrun, but if you have 40 letters, it would probably be okay to dump quite a few then and buy something with a higher profit margin.

Letters to me signify the actual inflation level of Gaia. Since people physically buy each letter for $2.50, the value you can get for each letter translates to a dollar amount. Today, an average sealed letter sells for roughly 6,500g. That puts the gold standard here $0.00038462. Compare that to a year ago, when letters were (at the high end) selling for 5,000g, or a value of $0.0005. Basically, without going into too much detail, it means we're experiencing roughly a 30% inflation rate, which is incredibly high for an economy. That's just with sealed letters.
Judging by this rough number, Sept'06 sealed letters should be selling for roughly 8,500g.

That sounds about right but if you remember there weren't a lot of users and then all of a sudden it seemed like in the span of two months or so about 15-20,000 users online came to be. As of now it doesn't seem like that's going to happen very soon. However, Sept 06 is a long time away. My brother and I do the same thing. Not to that degree though. We say $1 = about 1.5k about right now.

It's actually a tad higher. At my calculations, it's about $1 = 2.6k. That's using the 6.5/2.5 method.

Now thinking about that, take an Angelic Sash, whose value is 2,500,000g, and divide that by 2600g, and you'll find that the "dollar value" of a sash is just under $1,000. Funny funny. xd
