A red pelt was easily spotted moving through the tall savannah grass, the pale tail flitting around in the air, seeming to have a mind of its own. Unfortunately for the pridelands, Kiso was bored yet again, which could only mean accidental havoc if it persisted long enough. The childish lion was idly padding through the lands, not really paying attention to much. Well, not to anything important at least, like where he was going.... He was paying plenty of attention to the random beetle or small bird, chasing the poor creatures for a moment before growing tired of the activity once again. Someone should really put this overgrown furball to work, but there were plenty of lionesses and lions to hunt, and Kiso had never grown that talented at such activities. Instead he liked to think of himself as a scout, which he failed at, but it justified his exploration tendencies. If running around chasing nothing could be considered exploring....

With this lack of attention to his surroundings, who knew where the easily spotted loaf would end up? Despite that, no one seemed to notice him wander off, and who would? So this left Kisogo to wandering through the grass, always too loud for any sane prey animal to stay near, and too slow to catch those that did stick around.... Oh well, at least he was too far away to be a bad influence to the cubs....

And then, Kiso thought he spotted something, not another insect, oh no, this was a much larger something. Had he actually gotten close to a herdbeast? Kiso's heard raced at the possibility of actually catching something and as he padded painfully loudly towards the shadow in the grass, suddenly barreling through into a clearing, the lion was sorely disappointed in his find, but only for a moment!

The day was beautiful, peaceful, as it often was in the pridelands, the sun warming her white hide, a sparkle of light catching golden markings. A soft sigh, a gentle smile, pale eyes watching the clouds drift by. Yes, a peaceful day, or so she thought.

"Yipe!"

The lioness squeaked, leaping to four paws to escape the collision, narrowly avoiding the large creature that surely would have plowed over her. Panting, she gazed at the lion, a stunned expression on her maw. She had not expected to run into anyone, or rather, had not expected anyone to run into her.

"H-hello."

Her voice was soft, quiet, a paw shuffling in the grass beneath her. Try though she might, she could not help the shyness she felt around strangers, would she ever get over it?

Kiso's brow shot up as his amber eyes laid upon the pale lioness. Well, with further examination, Kisogo realized that she was only partly pale, the other part was quite dark. It was not a coloration he was used to, but he was discovering that that happened a lot recently, what a sheltered little royal. At the lioness' exclamation of surprise, Kiso laid back his ears in a submissive position. He hadn't meant to scare her, but that was what always seemed to happen when he tried to have fun, he scared someone, or annoyed them, or something. Poor, poor Kisogo....

But then she said hello and his hope was restored! The change of mood was quick, almost as surprising as his entrance. His ears came forward and a grin split his face cheerfully, perhaps a little too outgoing for this shy lioness. "Hiya!" Thinking over what he should say next, his ears slacked a bit, showing his embarrassment, "Uh, sorry that I scared you.... I was, uh... out scouting... and uh... exploring... and I didn't realize you were here," he ended lamely. Though he was not a scout, Kiso liked to think of himself and an unofficial scout, exploring the pridelands when he felt like it, instead of some kind of responsibility. Being his mother's favorite son, he hadn't really learned responsibility that well....

But he did like to make friends! And, his ears perking up again, he questioned, "So whatcha doing out here?"

"Oh, it's okay, you just surprised me."

Her paws shuffled, batting at a blade of grass as if it could take away her nervousness. She had always been a shy creature, even as a cub, always running after her sisters, but never never feeling like one of them. Many things she had not understood as a child, things she had not seen that she saw now, and though she had grown, matured into the beautiful lioness she was now, she had never lost that gentle, shy nature.

But despite that shyness there was a curiosity, and unshakable interest in the world around her, it was what drove her to leave her parent's den each morning and drew her eyes skyward with wonder. Her head tilted curiously, gaze drifting over the stranger's form. He seemed friendly, she liked making friends, even if she was too shy to approach on her own.

"I was, watching the clouds."

Was that a silly thing to do, would the stranger think it was? She had always enjoyed the clouds, they were peaceful and quiet, they made her wonder what it was like to fly.

Kisogo had been worried that the way that two lions had met would deter a future friendship, but the white and black lioness didn't seem angry, which was a big improvement on how the red lion normally started conversations.... Why she found grass so interesting, Kiso wasn't sure, but he was always eager to learn a new game. As the pale-eyed lioness looked Kiso over, he tried to stand straight and look impressive, but not scary. That wasn't an easy feat, though, so Kiso probably just ended up looking a bit goofy and overeager. She seemed like a nice lioness, and Kiso wanted to be her friend, but she had such a soft look to her, that the bouncy lion was afraid she'd get annoyed or scared of him. He blinked cautiously, waiting for her to say something else, since he didn't know how to fill the silence his question had left.

And then she did, and he became a bit more puzzled. The rambunctious lion didn't have much time to look up and watch clouds, not to mention that many days there were no clouds to watch. Today, though, there did seem to be a few, so perhaps it was worth trying to learn this new game. With that, Kiso's eyes lit up and he nodded enthusiastically, "Watching clouds sounds like fun! Can I join you? Will you teach me how to play Watching Clouds?" So much for Meiyo's peace and quiet....

"I'm Kisogo by the way!" He kept nodding, you'd think the lion's head would fly off of his neck at that rate, but maybe that's what the mane was for.... Keeping his head attached!

"O-okay."

The lioness blinked, a bit taken back by the eagerness of the lion, he certainly was an energetic creature. Not that she was afraid or disliked him for it; if forwardness were a reason for fear, she'd have forever fled from her oldest sister long ago. She was just...uncertain, she hadn't expected him to care about the clouds.

She wasn't sure how to answer him. Though she certainly didn't mind the company, she had never thought of watching the clouds as a game. It wasn't something she 'played', all she did was watch, probably something most other lions thought was boring.

"Well, I just, watch them, and sometimes I see clouds that look like shapes."

Her eyes drifted downward, watching her paws. No, not much of a game, probably not very exciting for such an energetic lion.

Kiso was happy when the lioness agreed to play with him, looks like today wouldn't be as boring as he had thought it would. Kiso was of course, too bullheaded and bouncy to realize that the lioness was a bit timid in her acceptance, but someone who wasn't instantly annoyed with him was a good start. He sat and watched her critically, trying to force himself to listen just a critically. It was a bit difficult for the lion with the maturity of a cub, but it's the thought that counts right? With his instructions, Kiso looked up to the sky, at the few clouds that did currently occupy the sky.

He quickly glanced back down at the lioness, checking for confirmation at his performance, "How was that? Did I do it right?" Kiso was grinning foolishly and standing now, practically jumping for want of approval. But when he focused on the female again, she looked sad, which brought down Kiso's euphoria quickly, he was a lion pleaser through and through. He tilted his head towards her, and tried to lift up her head with his nose, "You okay?"

Meiyo blinked, watching the lion curiously. What was he doing? She had never seen anyone put so much effort into something so simple, was it really that important that she approved? It was just watching the clouds, she doubted it would ever be possible to do it wrong.

"You're doing fine."

A soft squeak, she felt a flush under her fur as she suddenly found herself eye to eye with the lion. Her posture frozen, she simply stared at him, no one had ever touched her like that before. Stunned into silence, she simply nodded, unable to find another answer.

He was an odd lion, forward, energetic, but kind, she liked that. Wait, she had not told him her name yet, at least she answer that.

"I'm Meiyo."

Kiso was glad that he had been watching the clouds well, but he was afraid that he had scared her when he had tried to be comforting. He wasn't very practiced in it after all, so maybe he had messed up... again. He pulled his head back when she squeaked, not wanting to startle her more, but kept cautious eyes watching her for a sign of her current emotions. He was learning as he went with this whole lion interaction thing, since most of the time he just ran around the pridelands in boredom, pouncing random things. But she nodded, so maybe he hadn't scared her too much, he could only hope.

A grin lit his face again as quickly as it had left when he had thought she was upset. "Meiyo, that's a very pretty name Ms. Meiyo!" Kiso nodded, somewhere between enthusiastic and awed, it was a strange combination, and only a lion of his mixed up emotions could pull it off. "I'm Kisogo! But you can call me Kiso... if you'd like." It was almost a question, an offer of friendship, but a fear of rejection. Kiso was certainly on a steep learning curve now....

"Kiso...I like that."

She smiled softly, tail giving a single flick. Though she was still nervous, she seemed to be warming up, seeing him through her own shyness. He seemed kind, even if he was a bit hyper. But that was okay, she didn't mind the hyperness, and she was always happy to make a new friend.

Maybe the day would come that she would learn to find friends herself, instead of friends finding her. But today was not that day, for now she was content to simply sit and watch the clouds with her new friend.

But watching clouds wasn't very exciting was it? Well, to her it was exciting enough, she enjoyed the peace and beauty of the afternoon sky, but perhaps for Kiso it would not be so interesting. Well she didn't want her friend to get bored and leave so soon after she had met him. What if there was something else he'd rather do?

"Would you, like to do something else?"

The gentleness in the lioness' expression brought a similarly shy smile to Kiso's face. The hyper-excitedness that gave him so much energy seemed to be being replaced by something else, something softer. Kiso hadn't really experienced closeness with anyone besides his family. It was an odd sensation, starting to care about someone random, someone he didn't have to care about, but wanted to. Now, though, he was wondering what to do next.

Moving closer to Meiyo, that same gentle smile was mirrored on his face, "I'm glad you like my name. I think yours is beautiful." At her question though, he twitched his ears quizzically. He had enjoyed the idea of laying in the grass and watching the clouds with her, and hoped that she hadn't changed her mind, "Oh... well, I was hoping that I could keep practicing watching clouds with you.... If you want to that is...." Was Kiso being shy? It didn't seem possible, but the lion's hyperactive personality seemed to be calmed by the lioness' presence. Perhaps he would finally grow up....

Oh, her tail flicked, flush rising under her pale fur once again, a soft smile on her maw. She had not expected that answer, nor had she expected such a compliment. She had always liked her name, but he thought it was pretty, and he wasn't bored by the idea of just watching the clouds.

'"No, I dodn't mind, that sounds fine to me."

Her smile broadened, gaze quickly turning skyward to hide the flush she was sure he could see through her fur, though she stole another look at him from the corner of her eye. Kisogo, Kiso, she liked him. What had started as a quiet peaceful day had turned into something more, and an accident had brought a new friend.

It was indeed, a beautiful day.

Kiso smiled, content with the conversation. Settling into the grass and flopping onto his back, he looked skyward once more as well. Tilting his head slightly, he tried to discern an interesting shape from the wisp that was currently crossing over the savannah, but that was a challenge even for the most imaginative lion. "I think I see.... a snake?" Well, that at least made some sense!

Looking over once more, the red lion smiled, "You should lay down! It's comfier this way, your neck will get sore otherwise!" Another childish grin, but this time it seemed on purpose, and playful in a directed way. He wanted to continue the game with Meiyo, he wanted to make a real friend. It seemed likely that that would be possible today and he wasn't going to give up without a fight.

Looking back up to the clouds, hoping that she would join him in the grass, but not wanting to be pushy, Kiso continued to babble, "Or I suppose it could be a fish... Like the long skinny ones in the rivers.... There aren't a lot around here, but once I saw a big river and there were lots of fish in it, just like that cloud!"

A quiet smile, she settled next to him in the grass, her eyes turned to the sky above. Her head titled, searching for the cloud that he had spoken of. A fish? She wasn't sure she saw it, but then that was the fun of clouds wasn't it, everyone saw something different.

"That one looks a bit like a bunny."

She pointed to the cloud she saw, though she didn't know if he'd see it as she had. But that was okay, it didn't really matter what shapes appeared. What mattered was the day, and that she had found a new friend to enjoy it with.

A contented sigh, the twitch of her tail, a beautiful day. What new shapes would they find in the clouds, fluffy creatures waiting for friends to discover.
