((This RP is open to Clockwork Sorrows. If you wish to join, just ask! ))

The last few, long notes faded up into the painted swath of sky. The sun was nearly set and in the small, empty, secluded square all was rosy and golden. But to the east storm clouds brooded, their dark purple mass carrying the threat of rain.

But was rain a threat?

Relique blinked behind the sheer fabric of her blindfold and laid her pale violin in her lap. The air was heavy and wet; still hot but no longer dry. A small wind glided now and then, and the brittle leaves of a few parched trees shook mournfully -- longingly -- as they reached towards the dark in the east.

No; rain was a welcomed gift. Relique shifted her seating on the side of the empty fountain in wait.

And with the coming change in the weather was a lone spirit who walked with no set direction. His steps soft, careful and calm. The sound of thunder blessing the skies as a low thrum of rain tickled one's skin. It was light at first like all rain begins but with each step the Apathetic Clockwork took, the ground became drenched in the blessed liquid.

He did not mind so much over rain it was a blessing for many. That he learned from the priest in the cathedral. His long robes stuck to his skin as they were drenched through, the humming of thunder filling the sky with the flashing of lightening striking in the distance. He need not see to know the workings of nature but he did long to see with his eyes how others did.

Thankfully he was not blind just short sighted, unable to see the world from behind the blindfold that protected his sensitive vision. Stopping short at the presence of another he nodded softly taking a seat at the edge of the fountain. It quickly began to fill with the water that fell from the sky above. "Continue." He spoke softly, almost commanding but always polite. "I heard you from the distance."

With head turned away, she lifted the pale instrument to her chin once more and dragged the bow across silver strings. Slow and hard were the first notes, but as the bow dragged on and wet fingers played, their tone became quickened and more soothing. Water sprayed up from the vibrating strings as if overwhelmed with invigoration; the rain danced over the concrete and stone to the tune of the violin.

But a song cannot last forever -- or at least not as long as the falling rain -- and after some time the music faded away.

"Are you blindfolded?" she asked simply, her silver voice tinkling like the raindrops in the ever rising fountain.

"Yes." He replied but with the sun being overwhelmed by the gray clouds he really didn't need the blindfold. It had become like a security blanket for him over the many centuries. What he couldn't see, couldn't hurt him; though it was a simple philosophy for him. He didn't bother to remove it, there really was no need. Letting his head lift to the sky it was sprayed with the cool rain, a refreshing change to the otherwise humid weather that had accumulated over the last few weeks.

"We should probably seek shelter."
He spoke. Not sure if she would appreciate being drenched at his expense. "Unless you are comfortable then perhaps we could take a walk?"

Relique gave a small nod and did not put on the mask hanging from her hip, opting to keep on the now see-through blindfold of her own.

As she laid her violin in her sodden lap, she glanced at him as he spoke, and then looked out across the small square. With the rain falling as steadily as it was, she ventured to assume that the streets would be particularly empty that evening, and so she rose softly to her feet.

"A walk would be nice," she said, her voice so hushed that it was almost drowned out by the falling droplets.

He gave a curt nod standing to his full height before holding out his arm to her. "If you would like..." He said in offering of escorting her properly he waited before they began to take their stroll.

There were a few people rushing about trying to get to shelter. The occasional child squealing with delight of the life giving fluids before a mother called them in from the steps of their home. Ennui allowed a low hum escape as he walked with careful strides. The tune was something he heard from the choir which had stuck with him over time. "...We have not talked in a while. How have you been, Relique?"

Crimson eyes lingered on the offered arm for a moments time, a little baffled, but no less inclined to accept. As she placed her hand around and into the crook of his elbow, she moved forward with him at a slow, leisurely pace.

"I can't complain," she replied smoothly before she quickly turned her face towards his arm and away from a shelter-seeking pedestrian; clear her eyes were to the world, but they mustn't be seen. When the darkened streets were empty again, she returned her steady gaze ahead ahead of her and spoke on.

"You seem in a cheerful mood," she commented, and then added, "I've never heard you hum before."

He slowed his humming at her comment realizing he was giving off such impressions. "I suppose it would seem that way." He ventured to say but the tone of his voice gave way to nothing more than facts. "It was on my mind so I felt the need to hum. Is this okay?" He asked his attentions turning on her fully now that she had peeked some interest in him. "If you wish for me to stop I can do that..." Though it seemed he wasn't inclined as he began to hum again the sound of it complementing the lull of the rain around them.

She gave a small, melodic chuckle that seemed to intertwine with his renewed humming. "I don't mind," she replied softly as she glanced up at him. Her eyes returned to the road though, and she blinked from behind her blindfold.

Little streams of water ran out gutters and along the curbs, or collected into pools at blocked storm-drains where the water spun and gurgled. She watched as leaves floated around like little vessels in the churning water, and then to how droplets pinged back up towards from the pavement.

It wasn't long before she began to hum a melody herself, and although it was not the same as his, it seemed to fit in non-the-less, and from time to time full lines of song would escape her. However her voice always remained soft, but silver and melodic just the same.

'And the trees are now turning from green to gold.'

"You do not mind and yet you question it." He commented absently not really making a point so much as a statement. He did not falter in his steps simply walking at his leisure careful to keep his pace in stride with the other Clockwork whose legs were shorter then his own. As they walked in fair silence though accompanied with the soft bell-like voice of her music, Ennui's mind began to wander. He stole a few side long glances at the other but did not linger long enough to be obnoxious. Only when he was certain that her melody had come to a completion and that their destination had brought them to a canopied meadow just outside the village, did he stop to ask, "Do you remember that time in the library? I was curious about a part of me that I could not seem to understand. Something happened that day and I am still curious to know... I had wondered if you hated me for asking your help." He gently removed himself from the other walking in slow strides under the canopy of trees. The soft lull of the rain pattering against the leaves above and the grass around them played a comforting melody. "I had grown to tolerate your existence and had hoped you were not too repulsed by me that maybe you could continue to aid me in this strange journey to find myself."

When his arm slipped from her hand, she slowed her pace to a stop. Her eyes were casted downwards and her chin tucked slightly, sodden pale bangs unstuck themselves from her forehead and hung limp in front of her eyes like a shredded veil. She listened to him intently and only when she was certain that he had finished did she flicker her eyes up to watch him.

"I did not hate you then, Ennui, nor do I hate you now. And as for being repulsed: I am not that either. But you must understand; there is a side to you that has long haunted me, and the memories from that time -- though so long ago -- will forever darken my mind." She blinked and shifted her hands. Her bow bounced against her violin's strings and a sharp, discorded note echoed for a moment in the wet air. When all was the sound of rain again though, she lifted her chin and continued on.

"However I will continue to help you in whatever ways I can until you say otherwise, if that is what you wish."

Ennui stood silent as Relique spoke, his face lifted to the canopy of trees where the droplets of rain poured over his pale skin. He did not offer a smile to the simple act his features void of most emotion as was usual for him. Thankful that he was not hated though he knew there was something fearful about him, he still had no clue what (or who) it was.

Turning finally he let his opaque gaze fall upon the other Clockwork mindful to keep his eyes averted from her own he did manage a small marginal smile at the corners of his lips. "It would benefit me greatly if you continued to assist me as before." He looked at the violin then to the woman before turning to look out at nothing in particular. "I often wondered, what we were created for? What is our purpose in this world if we cannot find happiness." He breathed this softly wondering out loud. "I know that I cannot feel. I understand the emotion that is suppose to come from things that humans would enjoy regularly but no matter how much I try to understand the emotion is weak... almost as if I cannot be bothered with such a trivial idea. Was I created simply not to care? What kind of existence is that?" He asked though it was not a question for her or anyone to answer. He simply spoke out of a need to fill the silence between them... or maybe he was trying to understand.

"I know you... fear... a strong emotion indeed but it does not fill me when we are together. It only brings a slight sliver of apprehension. It's similar with the others, the things I feel they are always like a dull memory as if I had forgotten how to react. A miserable existence...." He sighed shrugging to himself all this talk had only been fleeting thoughts.

Relique let the soft sound of the rain come over them. She wasn't exactly sure on what to say -- if anything needed to be said at all. Many a time she a pondered the "creation" question and every time she concluded the thought with the simple fact that there was no reason towards their creation and no reason behind their existence. And that was fine with her.

Ennui's remarks on her emotion and how he felt others' emotions had sparked some interest in her though, but she only watched him with a slightly adverted gaze. As far as she knew, she herself could strongly feel all emotions and sympathize with the best of them... all except for Fear; she didn't feel that one as strongly in comparison.

She cleared her head with a light shake and then raised her violin to her cheek. "Existence existence," she said in a "blah-blah-blah" tone. "We have none." And with that she dragged her bow across the white violin's silver strings and moved on to begin a tune that was slightly dark, but emotional all the same, and even some-what sad.

( her music would be higher pitched compared to the video's music since that's cello and not violin * )

Ennui was curious at this point an emotion he was familiar with but at the same time not. He had learned all too soon that he was not allowed to indulge himself in such trivial things. Relique had a point with her statement. Who they were and their purpose meant nothing? Just a fragmented piece of a depraved mind.

He turned toward Relique circling her as she played her song. Even if it was sad he felt no such thing. The tune itself was felt deep within him, always an admirer of music of most any kind. As he stopped behind her he let her play though he reached around her torso wrapping his arms tightly pressing her body firm against his taller frame. As the last cord of her song bleated out into the air, he leaned forward resting his chin on her shoulder. His longer fingers grasped hold of the violin taking it from her as he let it settle to the ground, he continued to explore the curious feeling in him wondering if he'd understand it.

"If you will allow me to experiment..." He asked though he truly never waited for an okay. Sliding the cloth around her hair from her neck he allowed himself a moment to plant a gentle kiss at the nape of her neck squeezing tightly to keep her from jumping away. "I am curious, what does it feel like when I do that?"

When she felt him stop behind her, she didn't give much thought to it, but when he pulled her into him she gave a slight jump and was completely taken aback. She didn't feel fearful or nervousness -- fears counterpart -- but her heart raced a little and her arms tingled.

She let her violin be taken, and before she knew it a visible shiver ran run her spine as he kissed her neck.

Her crimson stare looked down at his arms around her torso and she rested her own arms on top of his -- if only for lack of a better place to put them. Towards his question she slightly inclined her head and kept her eyes forward as she spoke. "Fairly invigorating," she stated simply, and then continued on a few seconds later. "I like it, and you, but I'm afraid that the novelty of such an act is wasted on me; been kissed on the neck too many times."

Being kept twice in a brothel did that to a person.
