Umo was awake, watching the stars. After the disappearance of their Niece Ukoo, slowly but surely the rest of the family grew-dispersed and or stayed... And now Ukoo was feeling his age creeping up-as much as that saddened him. He was sure that everyone was asleep, but his dreams were interrupted and he could not help but leave the den and stare at the lights above. Something inside him sang like a creek against the night-and he could not help but breath in the air... it was so peaceful out here-with his family.
He shut his eyes and recalled the first time he met Kika-seeing her all worried and nervous... considering she had left the swamp to slur her curiousity... and he fell in love at first sight. He sighed deeply, his deep voice drifting in the wind... as he gazed out with crimson eyes. He dug his claws into the earth slightly, remembering the day-remembering when all their children were born...

With age came the fact that you needed less sleep, not taht it bothered Kikawaida, she had been born in the swamps and sleep had not really been a necessity, she had always been happy to lay in the cool night air and listen to the frogs as they sang their evening courous.
Here on the pridelands though the night always braught a differnt sound, the sound of lions mostly, but the distant laugh of the hyena also echoed through the air.
Peering out over the savannah she smiled, looking to her big fluffy mate, his body sillouetted against the darkness of the sky. Laughing quietly the khaki lioness pulled ehrself to her paws and padded out, a little stiffly, behind Umo. Rubbing her cheek up to his she flummoxses down beside him resting her face in his mane.

Umo shut his eyes and imagined where their children and grand children-the ones that had left-were... what they were doing. Were they falling in love. were they safe-sleeping in puddles or in someone else's embrace. He liked these thoughts. his tail tip twitching-his eyes shut... feeling the cool moon on his face. He lifted his head-hearing his loves silent footsteps. She was so graceful, no matter where they were-whether on marsh or dirt. He lifted his chin to her, feeling her fur on his face.
"Kika my love..." He said deeply, his voice rolling like thunder in the night. He lifted his head and placed it over her's as she fell to embrace him-a deep chuckle falling his lips. "Why are you awake darling?" He asked, his crimson eyes taking in her ever lasting beauty. "Is everyone else asleep?"

Kikawaida smiled lightly. "I was dreaming of the swamp Umo, it keeps me wakened." She grooms her mates cheek gently her soft pink eyes dancing lovingly. "I suppose it could be age too, so much on my mind, so often, i don't think i need to sleep as much as I used to."
Leaning in to Umo she gazes up at the skies, smiling at the tiny dots that were the thousand stars in the sky. "Do you think about them too umo?" she sighs softly a smile playing on her maw. "I think they must be happy out there my love, I would know if they wern't"

Umo lifted his head to the stars and could tell what she was thinking about their family.., and he smiled. "Ah, I think they are all well enough... We would feel it, wouldn't we? If one of our own was in trouble or sadness..." He said, throwing a paw over her shoulder, flexing his toes. "And what's this nonsense about being high in years... aging is a wonderful thing..." He said, giving her a loving knudge. "You are getting sweeter and sweeter with time my love."
He snuggled into her warmth, and lifted his nose to press it against hers. "I I think of them always... every waking moment of my time awake, is either on you or the children dear... Usually on you..." He added in a swoon. "We are grandparents, so my mind is always wandering..."

Kikawaida smiled, "You're still as sweet as you were the day I met you." She puurrs looking up at her dark, chunky mate, she groomed his face happily and sighed leaning against the big fluffy male.
"That makes me feel old." She grins and bats her mate on the nose. "Maybe getting older is a good thing." She puurrs and licks his nose "It brings wisdom and has definately made my fluffy mate more distinguished"

Umo sighed and began to groom her feet for her-taking care to clean her paw pads slowly and softly. He smiled at her comment-a bit tickled to hear her speak about them like they were on the brink of death. "My love, you don't look a day older than when I first met you." He said, leaning against her. "Remember? That was the best day of my life... my misery ended as soon as I saw you-my love." He said with a sly grin.
"You were so beautiful against the sun-looking so lonely and a bit afraid-but your soft voice sank my heart... I knew that if I did not see you again-I would slowly starve... I would have died to not see you again." He said, looking at her square in the eyes, his Crimson ones taking in her pink. "You stole my heart..."

She smiled gazing at her fluffy mate happily "And you know you have owned mine forever" She whispers her tongus lapping out to kiss her mates face, grooming his cheeks.
"You'll always own my heart umo, you know that. Without you I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't have seen our beautiful cubs grow up and I never would have seen my grand children. It's all because of you My Umo."

He lowered his head with a smile-obviously flattered at her words. It usually took a lot to make his big furry cheeks red-but hearing his lovely mate speak such things made his blood surge. He shut his crimson eyes-leaning into her-glad for her tongue on his cheek-the song in her heart and the sound of her whispering voice. He chuckled. "Aw, you would have found some male from the Swamp dear... Any male would be glad to have you at his side-I just was the lucky first one." He said with a chuckle.
"I can't believe out luck though... Kinamasi finding us and growing her children along with her brothers and sisters.. It makes my heart warm." He said gazing into the distance. "I sometimes wish I knew where they were... I know Tope is with that female... She seemed rather nice..."

Kikawaida smiled happily closeing ehr eyes and leaning against her big fluffy mate. She was glad he was beside her once again, her wonderful handome male. they had such a large family now and she loved each and every one of them more with every passing day and her umo she would never leave him even when her bod joined the souls of the world.
Letting a gentle sigh escape ehr lips she nestled deeply in to ehr mates fur, alone once again, beneath the stars, like so many other times in their life and every one meant as much as the last.

Umo smiled down at his lovely mate-satisfied that she was happy here. He nuzzled closer to her, breathing in her sweet female scent and sighed.. he was so happy with her-happier than he had ever been... though the birth of their children burned within his chest like a fire-her eyes and her touch were the hottest and most scalding of all.
So, with a final sigh, he nestled against her-sheltering her with his body and with his heart... forever and ever. "Good night my sweet love... I will love you till we part our bodies... and join the sky... and even then I will find you and be a star beside you." And he shut his eyes.
