The man stood at the front of the classroom, idly flipping through the pages of his book while waiting for his student to arrive. The chalkboard read 'justice', 'secluded lairs', and 'would rather avoid violence'.

"Shilling! Stop it, you STUPID DRAGON! Stop it!"
Cleos voice was shrill and high - the hallway outside of the room was filled with a dull thumpa-thumpa-thumpa of an excited dragon as Shilling ran full-force at the door.
"Stop it, you'll--"
Thud.
Dragon head hit the door. Crap.
"I -told- you." Cleo grumbled as she opened the door, hopping over her dragon. "You'd run into the door. Hello!" That was said ot the teacher. Cleo was smiling. Shilling was whining on the floor.

Peri glanced up at the commotion outside of his classroom, giving a start at the thud at the door. He took a few steps towards the door when it opened and his student walked in. "Hello... is your dragon okay?"

"He's fine, fine~" She insisted with a little wave of her hand. "Honest! Really. He has a thick skull - dontcha, Shilling?"
Shilling murfed and scooted his body across the floor with little scrabbles of claws; Cleo shut the door behind him before twisting and beaming at the teacher.
"So what're we doing?"

Perilas was a bit startled at the girl's mood, but as the dragon walked in okay and seemed to be doing pretty well, he dropped the subject. "Today we're going to talk about your dragon. And about gold dragons in particular." The man returned to his platform where he had a sheet of notes on the podium. "To start off with, do you have any questions about your dragon?"

"Y'allright, Shilling?" She was mildly distracted from her teacher when Shilling was finally close enough to her to touch. One small hand went down to ruffle at his scalp, making the gold dragon purr and nuzzle against his girls hand. She was so SWEET so KIND so utterly BEAUTIFUL oh how he LOVED his cleo~~ "Uh - yeah. He's really - gah! Stop nibbling my hand!-" Shilling whined, "-Hyper and not really all that smart. Is that a gold thing or is it just him being special?"
Cleo paused. "Oh, and what's that 'justice' thing mean? What can he do? Anything cool? He's a heavy thing, s'slept on me, will he be able to fly?"

Peri thought for a moment. "Probably more of a young thing. You have to remember that he's a young dragon. Gold dragons are usually known to be fairly calm... and pretty smart too." The man gave a shrug. "He'll probably calm down as he gets older."
"Hmm... justice. Gold dragons don't like to see 'bad guys', really. They are big fans of the bad guys getting put away." He grinned. "Gold dragons can breathe fire and are fairly good at spells. And, yes, he'll be able to fly."

Adorable crazy hyperness like Shilling usually grew into adorable curious hyper adults but... it could change. It was always unknown. Cleo had the sinking feeling that her particular dragon would stay hyper, and stupid, and bouncy.
"He's smart," She agrees. "Kind of. Sometimes, it seems like he's smart. But he runs into doors. Even if he WAS going to grow out of it," She rubbed his scalp again, "Running into doors like that would probably hinder a good deal of thinking abilities. Right, Shilling?"
Cleo paused, eyebrows arching up at the mention of fire. "Fire? He gets to breathe fire? When can he start doing that?"

Peri smiled at the child. "Only time will tell, I suppose." He glanced at the dragon and nodded. "When he's a bit older... it usually starts about the same time you get to be a preteen or so. I have classes for when the dragons get to be a bit older where they'll learn their breath weapons."

"Oh. Right." Cleo looked down at her little dragon - well. Sort of little dragon. But Peris words made sense. Things would be different when they got older and, so, Shilling got another pat on the head.
"That's cool!" She agreed cheerfully. "So you'll be teaching him to be a DEADLY FORCE OF NATURE!" Cleo did a happy fist pump, lips peeling into another wide grin. "Is there anything else cool I get to know?"

Peri couldn't help but grin at the kid's energetic nature. "Something like that... I've also got a flight class and another class for those that have special things about them. And a fighting class for them, as well."
"Got any more questions?"

"Awesome opossum! That's cool then, right Shilling?" The dragon received another rub and he leaaaaned into his girl. If he had been a dog, his tail would have been thumping. Cleo paused and contemplated the question on HER questions and hrrrrmed a bit.
"Uhm. Why was he picked for me? I was probably told before but I don't remember if I was and it always kinda confused me."

Peri chuckled at Cleo's phrasing. He glanced down at his notes at her question and grinned at the first part of it. "Mainly temperament. It was thought that a more... mean," he didn't really want to say 'evil', "dragon wouldn't do as well with you. So when they looked at the list of ones that would match well personality wise, they couldn't help but pick the gold. Since you're a goldcrest. Someone's got a sense of humor, apparently..." He grinned.

Cleo paused at the comment about a mean dragon not meshing well with her. While it was true that Shilling was there for her when she needed him to be but, in the beginning, she had honestly disliked him.
"Actually." She faltered a bit. "Actually, when I first got him, I was just happy he matched my clothes. He was hyper and stupid and silly. I didn't like him." Then that large, sweet smile, all energetic and happy, flashed across the face. Perilas had gotten a brief look into the actual Cleo, poor man, although he probably didn't notice.
"But I like him now! And he matches! Awesome. Yay for the sense of humor. I'd be upset if he was.. was.. neon green or something." She shuddered at the thought, wings shivering with her along with a slight ruffle. "Uhm. I know he munches down on meat but, uh. Some dragons like - pearls and stuff? What about him?"
A pause.
"I was probably told that too, but I was small and craaaazy and SO don't remember!"

Peri just blinked at Cleo's comment. What an odd girl... Maybe her sense of vanity was why they gave her a gold. Who knew, really. Ah, a question. "Yes, golds tend to like pearls, though it's more of a preferred treat than a real meal. So you don't have to feed them to him." Pearls were expensive and he didn't want some parent complaining that he'd said to feed the dragon on pearls alone.
"Well, unless you've got more questions, I'm pretty much done..."
