They had circled round the great hulking black shadows of the forest for some miles, the dark-coated female walking on silent paws so that she seemed to float along in the faint haze of the coming dawn as it slowly swallowed the chilling blackness of night.
Despite the great distance they had travailed she seemed as relaxed and calm as when the male had first met her. Almost as if she had unlimited energy and stamina at her disposal.
The three white tails weaved gracefully as she trotted along, glowing faintly in the weak light that proceeded the new day. The root, the source of the current partnership between the two unusual beings, was clasped gently in her sharp teeth, and had been for most of the journey. She seemed unbothered by the foul bitterness of the thing, ears pricked as she hummed a little tune softly under her breath.
Slowing down she stopped and turned to face the imposing forest they had been tracing around. After a moment she stepped forwards, seemingly into a solid wall of vegetation but as she slipped through the thick bush, the branches shifted to reveal a visible path. It wound round the massive trunks and vanished up the rise into the depths of the forest.
"This way." She said around the root in her mouth, pausing just the other side of the brush to wait for the weary male.
