Howl sat atop the roof of a hatter's shop, watching humanity move below him. Despite his bright colors and bits of knick knackery, he existed both unseen and unheard by the humans as they went about their daily lives. And for all his flamboyant ways, he preferred it that way. He lay back to continue his human gazing, a favorite pastime of his, and wondered if he had known any of them in life.

Howl watches with an amused grin as a group of rowdy pirates gets tossed from a nearby tavern. He is momentarily surprised when a bright blue wisp detaches itself from the Captain's shoulder and heads his way. He soon identifies it as a Whispling, a race of Ghosts that had mysteriously become more rare of late. Intrigued, he stands to meet her. "My lady. May I help you?" He gives a deep and flourishing bow.

When the pretty colors move to show a ghostling she is kinda disappointed but stays polite. "Not really. I love your jacket though." she says and hugs the end of his jacket.

He smiles charmingly, pulling off the jacket and holding it out for her to inspect, revealing the various knick knacks and bits of colorful junk that surround him. At the moment, they include a red wooden yo yo, a small tin soldier, a silver spoon, a bracelet with green and blue gems, and an ivory comb. Every so often an item will disappear, to be replaced by something equally odd and colorful. "My name is Howell Jenkins, but you may call me Howl. May I request the pleasure of your name, my lady?

Howl smiles as the little blue Whispling darts from one colorful object to another. Except for when he needs one, he barely notices them anymore. He enjoys watching her get so excited over them. "Why thank you, Lie. You are fairly interesting yourself. You like colorful things, then?

"I'm... not sure. I think I was. I don't remember anything, but there are things I know that I'm not sure how I would know if I hadn't been human at some point." he looks a little uncomfortable at discussing his past, fidgeting with a small metal puzzle that had taken the place of the ivory comb. "How about you, were you human?"

Howl smiled, and showed her how to use the yo yo. "Why the fascination with humans? I admit, they are interesting to watch, but most ghosts I know want little to do with them. Whereas you remind me of a certain fairytale princess who loved all things to do with the human world."

Lie squeels in happiness watching him use the Yo Yo. She tries and kinda fails again "I dunno, I have just liked them because... because... I..... I can't quite figure out why? It feels like it is on the tip of my tongue. Weird. A PRINCESS! REALLY! That is so sweet! Tell me the story!!! PLEASE!!!!"

He smiled at her innocent enthusiasm. "It's the story of a little mermaid who is a princess. She is fascinated by all things human, though she has no idea what many of them are for. Her father fears and hates the humans, and forbids her from having anything to do with them, but she sneaks away often to watch them, and secretly collects things that are washed out to sea during storms. One time, she sees a prince drowning and saves his life. She also falls in love with him. She makes a deal with an evil sea witch, trading her voice for a pair of human legs, and goes to meet her prince. The sea witch tries to trick the prince, using the mermaid's voice and her magic, into marrying her, but in the end the mermaid and the prince defeat the evil witch and live happily ever after."

He smiled to himself as she cuddled up against him like a child at bedtime. Now how do I know that? He shook his head. He was used to such thoughts. It was almost like they belonged to another person, the way they would just appear from nowhere. "As the princess commands." He thought about which fairy tale would best please her, finally settling on the tale of Cinderella. Cradling her against his side, he told her of lowly maidens made princesses, of evil step sisters and fairy godmothers. As he finished the tale he looked down to see her reaction.
