Moisture still hung in the air as the sun started to rise. Slowly, a moth-like soquili made its way through the trees and brush. Why did it always have to rain when she wanted to take a walk before dawn. Well it didn't rain all the time but who's counting. Her hooves left deep tracks in the grass and mud. The mare hadn't a destination in mind currently, though perhaps some food would be good. Her front right hoof sank a little to deep as she set it down. "Darn it," she said quietly to herself. Now she would have to find a stream to get the mud off her leg. She found the rain quite lovely, especially with the rising sun, making more colors than normal. Today though it looked like it would rain again later. She shook herself once, trying to get excess water, and hopefully mud, off and in doing so the mud spread to another leg. Sighing in defeat, she'd just have to go off and look for some place to wash her legs and hooves. The mare's moth wings fluttered softly as she made her way towards a small clearing. As she crossed the clearing, the sound a water reached her ears. Perhaps there is a stream close by here, finally.

A short disance away from mare and through the trees, the stream flowed with a steady, quiet regularity. The gentle falling of rain, so annoying to the mare, went unnoticed by the stream, the tiny impact ripples vanishing into the soft swirls of the current. It was nothing that the stream hadn't seen before, nothing interesting or out of the ordinary, just a typical dawn.

Or so it had seemed.

A soft, gentle chiming was the first sign that something was different about this morning. Like the chiming of tiny bells in the distance, the chiming gradually filled the air around the stream, gradually increasing in volume and pitch before suddenly cutting out entirely.

And just as the chiming stopped, a figure appeared on the bank of the river, emerging as suddenly as if he'd just appeared out of nowhere. In reality, he'd simply walked out of the woods on the far side of the stream, but between the mist and the rain, it had taken a bit of time for his prescence to register with the stream. But when it did...

To say that he was atypical was putting it mildly.

Four massive hooves supported a body bulkier and taller than most Soquili, yet in spite of his size and the dampness of the ground, he didn't sink. Small black wings, extending back from each ankle, quivered slightly as though preparing for flight at the least provocation. As he straightened his head, long straight locks of hair fell on either side of a long, aristocratic face from which looked out two piercing eyes, eyes of an intense blue that corresponded perfectly with the glimmering stones that dotted his glimmering silver body ornaments and hung from his mane, fetlocks, and the four spreading wings that stretched from his shoulders.

The stream wasn't exactly sure who, or what, he was, but one thing was certain; nothing like him had ever been around in THAT place before!

Dark ears twitched softly at the sound of running water. The sound of the stream was hard to make out over the light morning shower. The rain only seemed to be annoying to the mare when it got harder. For now she was fine, though the stream was still hard to hear. She walked steadily towards the edge of the clearing, the sound of the running water getting slightly louder. As the mare walked, she heard tiny bells chiming somewhere near the stream she was going towards.

She got to the start of the forest again, and heard the sounding chimes stop. For a moment she guessed she was just hearing something. The stream was still farther into the forest and not yet in sight. Her wings fluttered softly as she stepped into the forest and out of the clearing, the feeling of another presence came over her. Perhaps another was at the stream as well, was that the source of the chiming.

The mare's steps continued and the stream came into site. As she got closer, it took her a moment to see the other in the rain and mist. Her glowing eyes blink and she looked at the other soquili. Compared to her flutter size, he seemed even larger then she. Never had she seen another that large, well flutters could though not for long. She glanced at the other, the rain seemed to bring out the almost glowing blue of his adornments.

The stream had been Regelus' goal for long time, ever since he'd first spied the silvery thread down below while in flight. It wasn't that he needed a drink; no, flying up amidst the rain and the clouds had been more than enough to quench his thirst. His desire for the stream was something entirely different, a desire for...for what?

At the moment, he couldn't put his hoof on exactly what it was that had drawn him to the water, but he was confident that all would be revealed in time. That was the way things always went, after all; one followed the dictates of the world, and the world would respond in kind by supplying answers. In his life, he had never once been let down from following his senses, and he doubted he would start now!

However, since he was here, he had decided he might as well take a proper drink; it was while he was acting on that decision that he'd seen the mare, standing across the stream and staring at him.

Well, that seemed odd, but as she was the first Soquili he'd met in these parts, it could very well be a custom that he was not yet acquainted with; either that, or she'd simply never seen anything like him before. That, he could very well allow; she was quite possibly the smallest mare he'd ever seen, and he himself was larger than was average for his larger than average breed!

He wasn't going to let a little thing like that bother him, though. Lifting his head up from the water, Regelus gave the mare a slight, formal bow of greeting, then said, "Good morning, Mare. I hope that I am not intruding on a private territory?" After all, he'd been in places before where the locals were fiercely defensive of their territory; the last thing he needed to do was unfairly antagonize or intrude!

The thought of drinking from the stream seemed to escape her mind as she noticed the other. She had been thirsty, perhaps it was all the rain which made her ponder finding a stream to take a sip off. Finding another Soquili was the last thing she had thought she would see at a stream.

The mare realized that she had been staring at the stallion and looked down at her reflection in the water for a moment. Her act of staring had not been a custom, though it sounded like an excuse for her lack of a greeting.

Only one other time had she seen, from afar, the Soquili breed of this size. Other then that, the mare had only heard of the ones that had four wings. This stallion was even larger than the other she had seen before, almost towering over the small flutter.

She glanced back up and watched the other bow, her own head bowing in response. "Good morning to you as well. I almost asked you the same question. I am not from around this area." Her eyes glanced around for a moment, still amazed at the other's size. The mare hadn't really any home, currently she was wandering around.

"I see." Well, so much for that lone anxiety; obviously this mare was of no greater inclination to be aggressive and territorial than he himself was, which Regelus took as a positive. In his travels, few things had been more distasteful than being hurried off before he'd even had a chance to get his bearings!

That made it all the easier to give the mare a pleasant smile. "Well, in that case I would say that both of us have equal claim to this stream, then; furthermore, as there is definitely enough water for two, don't let me intrude on anything you might have been doing or were planning to do; I'm merely a traveler on a brief stop."

Reg was quick to reassure the mare of these things because he'd occassionaly run across Soquilis that were definitely uncomfortable around him. He took these things philosophically; how others reacted to his size and appearance was their business. He DID feel it was charitable to let them know there was no reason to fret, however, and considered it a job well done to have done so.

The mare herself was relieved that she was not invading on someone else's land. For the stallion was much larger than she and truly, she would be afraid of him if he was aggressive and she on his land. Though luckily that was not the case yet she was still unsettled on the height of the other. Truly if there were soquili small like her, there would be larger ones about as well.

The smile from the stallion helped her take it that he was not a threat at all. She smiled some too and nodded. "I believe there is more than enough water for the both of us, unless you plan on drinking a lot. I too am a traveler."

Her head bowed down as she took a sip from the water. It was nice and cool, refreshing as well. She would have to remember this stream. The mare was getting use to the size of the other, glancing up still again. The flutter wondered if she'd be able to change her size that large, she hadn't tried before though. She shook her head and took another sip.

"Indeed." Glancing down at the stream once again in response to the mare's assertion of its plenty, Regelus allowed himself to relax and once again lower his head for a drink. He needed to work on that stiffness, stiffness that always seemed to assert itself in every social situation with a stranger. He did wish that it would be possible to remove that barrier; however, he knew that as a stranger and a member of a strange race, he would be virtually guaranteed an awkward meeting every time he saw a stranger.

But such was his cross to bear; these awkward meetings happened for a reason, after all, and he would accept that, just as he always had. There was no point in fighting the inevitable, after all.

Instead, he simply took another drink, noting the silence that had fallen again as he did so. Undoubtably the mare was feeling awkward; the least he could do was try to assuage that awkwardness with some conversation. That thought in mind, he commented, "Have you been traveling long?"

She smiled a little, of course there was plenty of water, no one soquili could drink an entire stream! Unetsiwa's head lowered again and she drank some more of the water. The water was nice and refreshing, she'd defiantly have to remember this stream if she ever found herself back over this way again. She noted the other's stiffness, wondering why he was like so because he was larger than she. Herself only felt awkward because she was smaller than him.

The thought of increasing her height for a few moments crossed her mind, feeling that it would be slightly interesting to be the same height as the other.. Yet that would tire her out.

Silence had fallen slightly awkwardly, she still drinking from the stream. For a moment she wondered if there was anything to eat around the area. Her ears pricked when she heard him speak and she looked up. "Yes, I've been traveling as long as I can remember. What about you?"

Casual conversation had never been Reg's forte, but he was always willing to overcome for the benefit of the greater good. Now that he was out in the world, it was inevitable that he would meet non-angenis; that was the point, even! However, speaking with Angeni kind while living Above was something completely different than having a simple, light conversation with an earth dweller; he was sharply struck by the realization that he would need to work on his conversation skills, or he'd be doing more harm than good down here!

Taking all of that into consideration, this meeting was undoutably a positive thing. Yes, it was rather random and all they were doing was making small talk, but one had to start somewhere.

Baby steps were the bet that he could muster, though; neither his bearing nor his stiffness went anywhere as he replied, "Not really, actually. I left my home a few days ago, as a matter of fact. I'm enjoying the change of scenery thus far, though. This part of the countryside is very soothing."
