The forest path was new to Dewpaw. She was following a game trail, most likely a deer trail before the cataclysm, but she ddi not recognize the forest around her, being new to this place. The trees grew tall and thick, but she caught glimpses of the night sky above her. She held her dagger loosely in her hand, her other hand once more fumbling with her scarf. Morningtail was back at the main hut, resting, for Dewpaw wanting to be alone to think.
She had avoided the otehrs as much as she could, and when she couldn't, she had smiled and laughed. But the emotions from her "trip" home had caught up with her. She had tried getting lost in the forest, letting her sense wander and grasp at everything. She tried making her mind go blank as she focused on teh sights, sounds, and smells of the forest around her, a trick she had done often. But this time it wouldn't work. She came upon a fallen tree, recent, and climbed onto the trunk. the canopy above her broke where the tree used to reach up, giving her a clear view of teh sky. She layed back on teh trunk, staring up at the sky as her eyes began to tear.

Savith was out that night as well, unable to settle down to sleep (again). Ankle still aching, he opted to go out for a fly, hoping the wind would clear his head. He soared up to the clouds, then dove down toward the forest, letting free fall take him. His eyes registered the break in teh canopy and he slowed, angling for it. He pulled himself up, to drop down to find a branch to sit on and rub out his ankle. In the darkness, he saw little, and while his uniform was the same blue-black of the night sky, he would still block the star light.

Dewpaw blinked, rubbing the tear from her eyes are something obscured her view of the stars. her vision was as sharp at night as it was at day and she easily picked out Savith's form. *savith...* she sent, surprise evident in her voice. She hurridly sat up, painting a smile on ehr face and trying to hide any signs of crying. she didn't want him to know she was crying. She had sworn to herself she was done, and she hated to seem weak in front of the others.

He had just spotted a branch that looked comfortable and was able to settle on it, like a bird perching on a branch to preen, when the surprised send washed ove rhis mind. He paused and looked about, eyes narrowing to try to see more clearly. **Dewpaw,** he greeted in return, the uncertainity of where she was drifted along his thoughts.

Dewpaw was glad for the darkness and that Savith was a Glider and couldn't see in teh dark like she could, as her tears had started up again. She shifted on teh fallan treetrunk, making room for Savith to land *A fallen tree trunk, a few feet below you* she sent to him, including an image as she saw it, perfetly lit, hoping he'd be able to find it without hurting himself. She sheated her dagger, and again checked to make sure she was smiling, growing mad at herself for having to constantly wipe the tears from her eyes.

There was something odd about the sends. Her voice normally seemed so joyful and unconcerned, yet this was... too reserved. Concerned, Savith drifted down as bid, movely slowly so that he could find the log without injury. Once located, he alighted upon it, then turned to search out Dewpaw. Ah! There she was, sitting right next to him... Odd. She was wiping at her face and... grimacing? **Is something the matter, hatchling,** he asked gently, thinking that the darkness that kept him from seeing her face clearly was masking his own features and the expression of confused concern that he wore on his face. ((IE: I can't see you, so you can't see me!))

Dewpaw stared at her feet and the forest floor beyond them, not wanting to meet Savith's gaze, forgetting that he couldn't see her. She closed her eyes briefly, tryingt o compose herself. 'Puckernuts, he knows somethings wrong. Way to go Dewpaw. Great acting.' she thought the herself. *I'm fine. Just a little tired. Maybe I shouldn't ahve come out to hunt.* she sent, hoping she sounded more like her normal self. She wanted to talk, to end the silence. She never liked silence. But she was afraid her voice wouldn't work.
((Dew can see because she's a wolfrider. one of the perks. Don't get mad at me for it, glider. but for you, she won't look.))

**I can accompany you back to the cove,** he offered, still trying to make out features. She must have turned her head away. Wolfrider eyes had a creepy habit of glowing in the dark like a wolf's. **because you shouldn't be out and about alone if you're tired.**

Dewpaw shook her head, her bangs falling over her face. She glanced up at savith, but hurridly looked away. she really didn't want to see anyone right now, but she could tell he was worried. *No, I want to stay out here* she sent back, a sight pleading tone present in her send, *Can't you just stay with me? Then i won't be alone.*

Now Savith was sure something was wrong. He leaned back on his hands slightly and stretched out his legs in front of him as he turned his face from her. **As you wish,** he replied lightly. She didn't want him to see her face, he was reasonably sure of that, given the way her shadow seemd to turned from him and bow its head, but she didn't want to be alone.

*I thought there would be someone there...* she sent simply, not bothering to try and hide her emotions anymore. *I wanted someone to be there* Her sorrow was evident in her send as she finally spoke the truth, well sent it. She leaned into Savith, but hisitated, wondering if he would mind her doing so.

**So did I,** Savith replied, sharing with the cub that he too had felt the loss, the destruction of home, and it had left him hollow. As she leaned to him, he shifted, brought an arm up to wrap about her. **But unlike me, you are a wolfrider. You should howl, get it out of your system, and move on. Death is not an emeny. Death is.** Was there envy in that, that she could forget where he could not?

Dewpaw pushed herself further into Savith's chest *It is not that easy* she said, somewhat offended that he thought she could brush it off like a bit of dirt. *I have howled. But it isn't the same... its not easy to follow The Way sometimes.* She let teh tears come now, flowing down her cheeks. *He was jus staring at me. afriad. He was afraid I was hurt. He died being afraid for me* Her hands balled into fists as the memories flooded her mind, some leaking into her send.

Was she more elf than wolf then? Was she too young to have learned The Way completely? Was it something that had to be learned, then? Savith frowned at his own questions as he rubbed her back as she cried against him. **He died trying to see to the care of something he loved. I can think of no better way to take my last breath on this world,** he replied. **How envious I am of him,** the glider admitted as he plucked the memories from her send as they drifted free.

Dewpaw blinked, her head tilting slightly against Savith's chest as she thought about this for a moment. *I howled for him first. Before teh otehrs. Before anything. I howled for him.* She felt the tears fade slightly, less pressure behind her eyes. The Way taught you to move on, not forget but accept and move on. Death was the inevitable end to life. She knew this. But she knew that wolves lived in packs because the Way was hard alone. Her brother had told her once that the Way is possible because of the pack and the tribe. She shifted herself to rest in Savith's lap, looking up at him breifly before closing her eyes. She let the memories of his words flow out to Savith, *A tribe, he told me*
