(( Sorry for the lack of a good name. I can usually think of something. XP; I'll change it in a little bit... ))

Dementia was tracing back her steps to the pumpkin patch she lived by after she had grabbed a bite to eat. Unlike her pumpkin "siblings" she had to relay on different sources of food to live off of than dirt, sunlight, and water. Dementia had always had a bit of an identity crisis. She was stuck in a world between dragonfly and vegtables that, since D'jai was special, came in all sort of colors. She was shaped like a dragonfly, but were fur and the vines on her made her feel much more like a vegtable. She had to live like a dragonfly and yet she didn't always feel like one. Dementia had been forced to learn how to live in this confusion ever since she first saw the patch of pumpkins.

Once she returned to the patch, Dementia quickly began to inspect the pumpkins to make sure none of them were missing or damaged. Some of them were very tiny where others were about as tall as Dementia herself. However, in the middle there was one that stood out more than all the rest. It was a huge, blue, one, one big and strong enough that Dementia could rest on it. Dementia did just that, jumping onto the big pumpkin and she curled up on it. Perhaps it was time to take a nap. Nothing had dared come to hurt her pumpkins in a long while so she didn't feel too worried.

Meren walked through the fields humming to himself. It was a good day. Bright, clear, full of sunshine. He knew many dragonflies would be out on a day like this exploring. Especially females. He chuckled. Females were always so fickle and giggled at everything he said. Ah yes, he thought. Females were the best things in the world!

He walked up to a patch of large orange vegetables. "Odd...I've never seen these things..." he prodded the vegetable nearest to him. It was very hard to the touch. Each of the pumpkins came in different sizes ranging from tiny to large. He walked carefully through the vegetation and saw something perched on the large blue vegetable. He carefully walked up to it and saw it was something that looked very similar to the vegetables. He walked carefully to it, and sniffed at the object on top of the blue pumpkin.

(( Okay. <3 ))

Dementia opened her eyes half way as she felt a slight disturbance near her. She stretched out and yawned before looking down at the source. Her eyes widened and she took a few steps back which cause her to slip off the pumpkin. A male dragonfly in her patch? How much had she missed? She shook her head and tried to get back on her feet. "Oh no... you didn't! You didn't, you didn't, you didn't..." Dragonflies usually came to her patch in hopes of snacking on one of the many pumpkins who she considered to be family. Who knows what the green male could of done if he had managed to sneak up on her like that! Well, she had let her guard down, but that wasn't the point. "You didn't hurt any of them, did you?"

Meren watched the object fall off surprised. It was a female dragonfly! Quickly running to the other side, he made sure that she was okay. When she started to stutter at him, he looked at her with a confused grin on his face. "What didn't I do?" he asked sheepishly. "Did I scare you in anyway?"

Meren was even more confused at the question she asked him. 'Hurt? What did I hurt?' he pondered. He took a long pause and looked around the patch. "Are you talking about these?" he asked pointing at the pumpkins.

Dementia quickly nodded her head. "Yes! Yes! Those! My family. You didn't try to eat one or step on one did you?" Once she was standing up alright, she began to look around the blue pumpkin for anything that was wrong with the pumpkin surrounding it. "N-no.. I'm fine. Just worried about the little ones," She softly said after she realized the other had shown slight concern for her. She wasn't very used to having others interested in her own well being. "Usually when I see dragonflies in here, that means they're hungry and have a thing for the poor vegtables. PLEASE tell me you aren't one of them..." She poked her head from behind the blue pumpkin to look at Meren. Was he really confused about her claims or was that confused grin just an act? Dementia wasn't sure how much she should trust him.

"Now why would I eat those?" he asked with his confused grin still on his face. "Those aren't edible are they?" he cocked his head to the side. "And after all," he added. "They're probably yours so it would be considered stealing if I ate them no?" My, my. She was certainly a different dragonfly. In fact, she looked just like those vegetables!

He looked at her oddly. "Now why would dragonflies come here to eat and just leave?" He walked closer to her. "I would certainly stick around cause there's something much more prettier and nicer here." he looked at her grinning and he spoke the truth. She was much more vibrant and colorful than the other females he knew. And she seemed more attractive to him, but he didn't know why.

Dementia pulled herself away from the blue pumpkin a little more after hearing what he had to say. He didn’t sound mad to her so maybe he wouldn’t try anything. "Well, I wouldn't think they would be, but quite a few have tried anyway." The thought of eating a pumpkin was like cannibalism to her. "Well, they're not exactly mine, but they do belong to me in a sense. I just feel I have a strong connection to them." She looked away so she wouldn’t see his reaction. She didn’t want him to give her a look that made her feel weird.

Dementia felt a bit nervous with him getting closer, but she stood her ground. He was different from the others she had seen so maybe things would turn out differently like she was hoping. "I suppose they leave because of me..." She quietly said as she looked around for what he was talking about. Dementia wasn't used to being complimented in such a way and never imagined someone could think of her as pretty. "What do you mean? I don't see anything here besides the pumpkins..." She looked back at him and frowned in confusion.

Meren nodded at what she had said. "Well of course you would have such a strong connection to them. Why, you look just like them!" Meren wondered why she looked away when she said that. So they were called 'pumpkins' huh?

"You don't see anything else besides these 'pumpkins'?" he asked in mock indignation. "Well...I see something pretty right-" he pointed at her, "Here." He smiled at her confused face.

He then realized he was so caught up in surprise, he forgot to introduce himself. "I'm Meren by the way."

Dementia nodded in agreement. "Yes! Yes! I do look so much like time. I'm happy you understand. With the few I've spoken to about it, the conversations always ended up with them calling me.... weird." A smile twitched at the corner of her mouth. She didn't want to put her guard down just yet however, so she attempted to still look serious.

"Me? I'm the pretty thing? You must be joking. Thanks anyway I guess..." She looked away again to hide the slight blush on her face. There was no way he could be serious. "My name is... Well, the last thing my parents called me was Dementia so I've been using that."

"But you're not weird." He digested what she said. "You mean...no one understands about your connections?" he looked appalled.

He laughed and moved closer to her. "Are you blushing?" he teased. She was shy! "Hmm...Dementia huh? I like that name." he grinned.

Dementia shook her head. "No... I suppose you are the first to think of myself as normal." She allowed herself to smile. Finally, someone who acted like she wasn't an alien of some sort. "The pumpkins are like family to me, so I guess no one could understand that before. It's been difficult. It's refreshing to see that you are so open minded."

"Wait... blushing?" She shook her head again and almost fell back. Was it obvious that she wasn't used to such compliments? For some reason she didn't want to come off like that."Blushing? No, no, no. I'm fine. I.. I like your name too..."

He nodded in agreement. "Family is very important." he agreed. "If you don't have a family then you wouldn't be here." He pondered for a moment. "Hey...How about I help you protect your pumpkins from other dragonflies?" He looked at her intently for an answer.

Meren watched her fall back and laughed. Her shyness was interesting to him for he never met anyone like that.

Dementia felt uncertain with his offer. "You? Help.... me?" She frowned and avoided eye contact with the other. "No one has ever thought to do such a thing for me. I don't understand. You barely know me..." She sighed and closed her eyes. "You really don't think I'm... strange?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 06, 2008 8:25 am

Meren watched her. "I wouldn't say you were 'strange'...I would say you're more 'unique'." He swatted at the pumpkin closest to him with his tail. "So what do you say?"

"I guess..." Dementia looked over at one of the smaller pumpkins, one that was close to her right paw. She gently put her paw on top of it, as if she were seeking some sort of comfort from it. "How long do you plan to stay....? You're free to leave when you want, but I'm.. curious."
