Vara walked slowly along the edge of the pond near where she and Scythe lived together. When she looked in it the tip of her long mane just barely brushed the surface. Her own blue eyes looked back at her and the blue sky beyond her head past them.

She wondered.

She had felt this same way two other times in her life... could this be the third? Could there be more life quickening within her even as she pondered it?

She loved all of her children dearly yet part of her knew that she was ready for more. If she truly was pregnant then it was something to rejoice over. If she wasn't... she still had time left. Either way, she'd wait to talk to Scythe about it until she was certain. She didn't want to cause any false alarms.

Karma had been wondering where he would find his mother and didn't have to look long. Luckily for him, she was on the edge of a lake and easy to find. He dipped down in a short dive that led to a landing nearby. His mother, who had been facing skywards to watch his decent, came to his side and gave him a nuzzle of greeting when he had landed.

"Hello, Mother." He returned the nuzzle and then drew back to look upon her. "Melanthios and Tuuliki should be arriving soon. We have something we would like to speak to you about."

Crap, crap, crap. Mel was taking an unusually long time heading back to where he had grown up but he needed the time to come up with a good explanation for the filly now weaving her way in and out of his legs as he walked. An explanation for why he was a father now. Craaaap! He couldn't lie to his family, not about something like this. Plus she looked too much like him for them to fall for that! As he got closer he could only see two figures in the distance. Crap! Karma and Tuli left mom and dad all for me! He almost turned and ran. But then he saw it was only mom and his brother, maybe it would be better if dad was there instead of mom. He couldn't pinpoint which one would overreact more.

As he got closer and closer he told the filly to stay underneath him, having to bribe her telling her it was a game or else she wouldn't do it. Maybe they wouldn't see her! Yeah, right. "Hey mom. Karma," he nodded to his brother in greeting. So far so good. Until a small "HI!" errupted from underneath him and he winced. Damnit Kahili... Mel just look at both of his family members and shrugged a little. "Heh."

Vara noticed her other son approaching and beamed in response to his greeting. It was a rare day that she received two such welcome visitors. She was about to give her own greeting back when the second voice greeted her. After an instant of looking for the source she focused on the small silvery filly underneath her son. The filly had a blue and white mane...

And very familiar lotuses on her feet.

Vara hadn't thought that her smile could grow any wider but it doubled in size with the realization. "Mel! A granddaughter?" She was beside them in a flash and leaning down to try to give the filly a nuzzle. "She is so so beautiful..." she crooned at the foal.

Karma was just as surprised as his mother at the filly's appearance though he showed it less on his face and in his actions. He looked from the filly to his brother and didn't have a doubt in his mind that they were father and daughter. He was filled with a sort of curiosity in regarding them. When had Melanthios taken a mate? Somehow it seemed like something that Karma felt he should have known... but he and his sibling were hardly close enough for him to be upset at not knowing.

"Congratulations," he said simply, watching the antics of his mother from where he stood apart.

Mel sighed as he looked down at the filly. Busted. "Yeah, yeah, a granddaughter." He watched his mother and couldn't help but roll his eyes a bit. Of course he should have seen that she would be excited about this, it was his mother for crying out loud. Children were her life! Since he didn't have to hide her anymore, she stepped away so she was standing beside him instead. His gaze went back to his brother and he nodded to him. "Thanks, Karma." He and his brother definitely weren't very close and it was almost awkward standing there with him, watching their mother coo over his daughter. Tuli would surely lighten things up when she got here.

Kahili smiled at the mare and wiggled her little tail as she bounded forward to nuzzle her back. "You're grandma right? Daddy told me so! Oh wait...I wasn't supposed to talk. Oopsey." She smiled sheepishly as she peeked over at Mel who just shook his head at her, causing her to giggle. Her head tilted at the other stallion who looked just like her dad. "Who're you?"

She had taken to the skies just after Karma, but not surprisingly, Tuli had been sidetracked by a lovely patch of wildflowers. She just had to land and nibble a few on her way back home.

Moments behind her brothers, Tuli gracefully cut through the breeze, her wings stretched out, her mane and tail fluttering and twisting behind her as she glided along.

In the distance she noted her mother, two brothers, and...a filly? Her ears perked as well as her curiousity. Who had children now? She nickered and whinied from the skies as she started to descend onto the greeting. She was definately curious to find out who this other mare was that Mel had been speaking of earlier.

Vara managed to pry her attention off of the filly for long enough to call her own whinny of greeting to her descending daughter. Within her, her heart beat in joyous pounds. Today not only were three of her four children visiting but a new granddaughter as well!

Vara turned from the sky to resume beaming at the filly. "Yes, I'm your grandmother and what a proud grandmother I am. You are as perfect a filly as I have ever seen." She couldn't help but continue to fuss and nuzzle over the girl, though she continued talking while she did. "The stallion with the wings is your uncle Karma and the one flying down from above us now is your aunt Tuli."

Karma nodded in agreement to his mother's words but with less of her entrancement. He was still reflecting upon the addition of a new family member and perhaps more. They were of an age for parenthood, he supposed. Perhaps his sister would be next. He couldn't imagine himself breeding in the near future. It wasn't something he dreaded or disdained, simply something he didn't believe it was time for.

Mel just watched his mother fuss over his daughter with a small shake of his head until a familiar whinny caught his attention. “Tuli! Now the party’s complete!” he exclaimed happily as he trotted forward to meet his sister. Tuli always made everything so much more exciting and happy. Surely she wouldn’t fuss over the new addition to the family, or at least he hoped.

Kahili giggled at Vara and nuzzled her head underneath hers. “Really? You think I’m perfect?” she asked with another giggle and a big wide smile. No one had given her this much attention in…well she didn’t know! She did know she definitely like her grandma Vara. “Uncle Karma? Aunt Tuli?…Oh oh are those daddy’s brothers and sisters? He told me about them but didn’t mention names. Don’t know why though.” Her head turned to water the mare flying towards them, making her little tail wiggle with excitement.

Her hooves touched down a little less graceful than she would have hoped for. She still hadn't perfected landing yet. She just shrugged it off and trotted over to where her family members were gathering. She wondered where her father was, he normally wasn't far from Mother's side.

She nickered again, "Hey guys! Mom!" she yelled as she made her way. Her eyes again falling on the small filly that sided next to Vara. She noted the coloring and the markings, she was definately family.

Once close enough, Tuli inquired. Surely she belonged to someone. "Okay, who's had children?" She eyed both of her brothers, surely they would have told her? Maybe they had been busy, it had been a while since she had seen either of them really. "Am I an Aunt?" she looked from Mel, to Karma, then to the filly. "Hi! I think I'm your Aunt Tuli! What's your name?"

"She is Melanthios' child," Karma was quick to say. There had already been enough complications and misunderstandings regarding "lady friends" and he didn't wish for more in front of his mother.

Vara nodded to Karma's statement and drew herself back a little to admire the filly more fully. She really did look a lot like her father. The resemblance was remarkable in the swirling petals and the lotuses that graced her feet. "Utter perfection and beauty," she said more softly before looking at her three children gathered around her. "I couldn't be more happy that you all came to visit and with such wonderful news. You have made me a very proud mother."

Mel glared at Karma briefly for selling him out so quickly. “You’re just jealous because she’s so pretty”, he said as he stuck his tongue out at his brother childishly. He trotted over to greet his favorite sister and give her a nuzzle. “You’re late Tuli,” he teased as he tugged on her mane. “I thought I was going to be the last one here since I had some cargo to bring with me. What kept you, dear sister?” It was so much easier to be himself with his sister, she was so much like him and they always had fun together just like when they were kids. “Hey mom, where’s dad? You two are usually stuck at the hip, aren’t you?”

Kahili smiled at the praise she was still getting from her grandma before turning to watch another mare fall from the sky and come over to speak to her. She nodded at the mare with a smile. “Grandma said you’re my aunt Tuli so I guess you are! My name’s Kahili.” The little filly could definitely get used to this family, they all gave her so much attention, it was great! Well except for uncle Karma but he was a boy so that didn’t bother her.

"I'm never far, Son..." a voice sounded from behind Mel as Scythe made his way to the gathering. "You know I don't leave your mother by much." he laughed, finally taking his place at Vara's side. He nuzzled her gently, then turned his attention to Kahili. "Well now, aren't you a beauty? Of course, you must be my granddaughter, no one else would be so pretty." Scythe smiled a rather large toothy smile.

"You know how it goes..." she laughed and shrugged a little, "It's sunny...there were flowers..." that only meant one thing. She had stopped to eat. She just laughed it off and playfully nipped at Mel's mane while Scythe talked to Kahili. She then turned to Karma, mocking a bit, "Don't worry, I didn't dare think she was your's." She winked at her other brother in a playful gesture.

Turning her attention for a moment, she had greeted her mother, but not proper. She took a few steps over to her mother, nuzzling her neck gently. "Another beautiful addition, no?" she said softly and some what distant. Tuli had shared with only her mother, her deepest desire of having her own family one day. She jested with her brothers, but she tried not to let them see how terrible she felt being the last.

In the midst of their celebration of family Vara felt a little sorry for Tuli. It had to be hard for her to watch Mel casually displaying what she so longed to have. Vara only hoped that Tuli would appreciate that such things would come in time and that they were more than worth waiting for. "Now our family gathering is complete, isn't it?" She smiled around them. They were a beautiful group indeed in body and spirit alike. She could not have asked for a more perfect family and would not have traded them even if one existed.

Karma's wings shifted on his back. As nice as it was to see family again, they seemed to have forgotten the purpose of this grouping. He cleared his throat softly and then a little louder to ensure that he was given attention in the throng. "Melanthios, didn't you have something to tell our mother? Of a recent meeting that you've had?"

Kahili blinked at yet another voice, this one deeper obviously coming from another stallion. As she turned to see who it was she ended up just sitting there, staring at Scythe, wide eyed and her mouth agape. He was so large, had such long pretty hair and had the most amazing wings she’d ever seen in her life. He’d called her his granddaughter, so did that mean…he was her grandpa?? “…You’re cool.” That was about all she could get out before bounding underneath the large stallion and smiling up at him. She definitely liked this family.

Mel looked back over to his brother when he said his name and then jogged his memory about the one that he had met earlier that he’d told his siblings about. “Oh yeah. Mom a while back I met someone, a mare actually, and she talked about the lotus flower. She had lotuses on her body and…well she said some confusing things but she noticed my flower petals and said I was blessed. Stuff like that. She said she was headed to find some family of hers. When I told Tuli and Karma they said we should ask you since you know stuff about the lotus too. Maybe even have an idea bout who she is.”

Scythe laughed as the young filly seemed to be speechless. He smiled down at her, even through his fangs, he was a friendly face. "Well, I'm glad I can be 'cool'." he gave a heartly laugh. He spread a wing as the filly bounded over to him, nuzzling her underneath and holding her close. "That a girl."

"Oh!" her ears perked and she looked from Karma to Mel. She had almost forgotten as well why they had come looking for their mother. "Mel can't remember a lot of what she said, but we thought you might know..." she looked to her mother. She was quite curious to see if it was a coincedence or what that there was another lotus soquili in the area now. As far as Tuli had known, their family was all there were...

Vara had been curious about this meeting that Karma mentioned and her ears pricked to attention at the description. Lotuses on her body? It was possible that it was a completely unrelated soquili. She had seen other soquili in her travels with similar flowers decorating them even if she hadn't seen other lotuses. He said that she had been looking for family...

"What breed was she?" she asked with eyes alight. "Do you recall, Mel?"

Karma looked to his brother as well. Their mother seemed very interested in the news so it was good that they had come to her. Even if it turned out to be nothing she would at least have her family around to appreciate. Karma had to admit to himself, though... the huge herd was starting to make him feel a little crowded.
