A twisting wind had rattled the leaves along the park, sending a bit of a chill up Simba's spine at the very sound. His nose had wriggled habitually as he bounded forward, his bare feet drifting far into the dewy grass. Now and again he would pause for a moment; or he would scramble on his hands and feet like a beastly thing - his unseemly tail dragging along behind his tribal form. A coy smile always lingered on his face - devious and calculating.

Simba loved the park. There was a fresh world feel to it that separated it from the musty old Theatre. The wind would blow, the clouds would sway ... and the scent wafting through the air was a heavenly one of blended sensations. There was nothing quite like the natural world; it was all Simba could do to bound forward, wallowing like the beastly animal he envisioned himself to be.

Noah, of course, was far from the similar sort - and it had taken everything Simba had within him to convince the man to find a place akin to the savanna (or as close as it would come). In the end, Simba had been required to stoop to the lowest of levels: the royalty please, and that was never a pleasant thing to do. He would trot along at Noah's heel, shouting please as much as his breath would permit him, and when he grew tired and needed to breathe, he would take the moment to stare and hum or pout. It was a charming thing, and it had appeared to work all the same.

Nevertheless, Simba had noticed a particular quality within Noah. He was rigid and tense. His movements seemed constrained and almost worried, as if he felt a park were too open of a location, or as if some dignitary duty were being neglected through his pandering to the wishes of a prince. For every bounding leap Simba took, Noah took a slight step and a look around. It was as if he were a meerkat watching for danger at every turn. Eventually, the man had settled down and taken to jogging after him, and for that Simba felt a beaming deviousness that insisted he keep dashing. But Noah's voice was firm and determined when he began to shout:

"Stop running; Simba, the hill! The hill!"

Huh? Simba's brow had quirked as he began to turn his head. His eyes had grown wide, and his face had become long at the sight of the tall hill, or the steep slope, he had suddenly approached. His knees had buckled, and, in an instant, he was rolling head first through the grass and towards the lower portion of the park.

Beast was growling again. Neil didn’t know how he picked that up, or if it was just the kid getting in touch with his more animalistic side. But the noise that was coming out of the fur balls mouth was definitely identical to that of a temper throwing dog. Or lion. Neil didn’t know which one was more appropriate for the little bugger. The kid hated fish and anything that smelled like seafood (after many growling and hissing as he was asked to take platters to some of the tables) but he loved water and taking naps in the sun with Tanz.

Maybe he was a hybrid of a bunch of different things? Neil contemplated this as he strolled through the park. It was the same one that Tanz wasn’t allowed to go to without an escort. Apparently he ran off and met some pretty ladies, if his brother’s stuttering was anything to go by (though he could have just been really scared that he lost the little brat and is now paranoid of the park). They were both walking (well, one walking and one stomping) in the quote on quote “lower” part of the park. It was nicer to be down here since most of the parents and children were hanging out on the other part since it had all the trees and picnic places. The most exciting thing that was down here was grass and a few patches of longer stuff, like the person that mowed the place was trying to avoid some rocks or old tree stumps.

Beast was currently trying to find a place to sit down. Neil and Beast left the house (apartment) a little earlier in the morning to try and get some clothes shopping done. Beast obviously couldn’t go parading around the place half naked. Neil knew that he wasn’t the best parent in the world (not even close) but having the kid run around without a shirt on was a little much for even him. But during the clothes shopping Beast found more shirts that Tanz would like and he got upset that he couldn’t find anything that fit right. Even the tween section of the store didn’t have anything that would fit over both his chest and arms.

After almost tearing up the third shirt that Neil would have to pay for (the other two were beyond salvage, so Neil put them in the back of the rack hoping that no one would notice until they were well away) Neil offered to take Beast to the park. Beast agreed with a growl and started to stomp out of the store.

Beast really liked the park because of all the different smells and colors. Usually a lot of smells would make his nose tingle and his head hurt, but the park was full of natural and full smells. They filled his nose and stayed with him, even when he stepped back onto the sidewalk. He always tried not to breath all that hard so the calm feeling stayed with him longer. But it always went away, but other things could make him feel better. Like the small and taste of hot chocolate. Uncle Shiri always made it for him when he had a headache, it always made Beast feel better.

“Look.”

Beast jumped as he was addressed for the first time since they left the stupid store. He didn’t like shopping at all. Except when Tanz went, then they just played dress up. Looking to where the older man pointed Beast’s ears flung up and his tail went ridged.

Someone was in trouble. Beast needed to go help.

The little fur ball took off running to the where the kid was going to land hoping that there was something that he could do to help.

Neil sighed and walked after his kid. There was no hurry after all, it wasn’t like there was anything but grass on the hill.

The grass had tickled his skin, and the ground had appeared to throb beneath his thick figure. With a low groan, Simba had set a hand over his head, grasping a few strands of sponge-like hair that wriggled about his head. The fall had been more or less a tumble, but he was dazed enough to attempt sitting, and then falling, a time or two before surrendering the matter to a joyous laugh. He had winced at the feel of scraped elbows, stained slightly with grass, and had ground his teeth together in a bit of a low growl.

Simba was a firm little boy, however, and for as dazed as he was, he inevitably found himself well-seated and balanced. His fingers had been planted to the ground like claws. Quietly, he had inhaled a deep breath, dwelling over how exciting that had been with a crooked grin on his face.

It was about the time that he had managed to be seated somewhat that he had witnessed a rather furry figure emerge from one direction. His eyebrows had quirked with curiosity as he leaned somewhat, trying to stand up on his wobbly legs to get a better view. He had not needed to wait long before the figure had come closer, and then closer again.

From just above the hill, Noah was carefully hurrying down himself - blissfully unaware that a familiar ordeal was destined to greet him yet again.
