While quite a few children had to be carted off into a medical facility immediately there were still a few children who displayed symptoms but were not in a severe state yet.

Doctor Acklin would have been able to explain to the parents that there is an illness going around that can prove quite dangerous. Also for the children safety they would have to be quarantined, and stay here until a vaccine was found. The children would get to say their goodbyes but both parent and child be told after this point they will be allowed no visitors. At least not until more is found out about this illness.

Acklin would allow a few questions to be asked but press that it would be best for the children to get into a bed and have medical attention right away so that they can do what they could to prevent the sickness from getting any worse.

-----

The Intensive Care room was a very large room, it was for all of the sick children that were not yet in almost fatal condition. The children were more coherent and probably only feel as though they had a bad cold or the flu. So as children were they would probably want to be at least semi-social. While they were restricted to their beds the doctor said they could talk amongst themselves as long as no one raised their voice.

There would be a tech or two in there at all times and the doctor would come in when he got a chance to continue tests and administer treatment for what he could help with to in the beginning.

The room was all white, there were six beds and a television per three beds. The doctor made a note to have more beds brought in, in case some of the other children began to display symptoms also.

(( As a note the children will be put in the beds as indicated in the title order, so Llyr would come in first, be put in bed, leonard next to him, emmet next to him so on and do forth. The posting order does not have to be the same order. If you have any questions please pm this mule ))

Llyr's reddened and pale was pushed into Echo's already crumpled shirt. It was difficult to determine if a white and blue boy was looking sick, but he definately would qualify. Those blue-white cheeks were pasty and crusted. His usually bright pink eyes drooped and crusted at the edges. Llyr's red nose's sniffle was muffled as the boy shifted in her lap.

Echo had him wrapped in a hug, though to her it was awkward - was she doing this right? He had gotten sick earlier and it just escalated. She thought she could handle it, but this parenting stuff was still so new...why wasn't there like... a fool-proof manual or something?

"It's okay, Llyr, they'll help you here." Or so she hoped. She was sure they would. They had to! "It's just the flu, it'll pass."

Llyr shifted just a bit, enough so he could talk and be heard. "I feel like dying," the boy wimpered before curling up more in her lap.

"Shhh... shh.... you're not going to die." Echo took a deep breath. She'd have to tell him. The doctor explained that he'd have to stay here, and she didn't know how he'd handle that. Since he came into her care, they hadn't been separated.

Running her fingers through his sickness-slicked hair, the woman took a breath. "Llyr, I have to go... but only for awhile! Only until you get better."

The boy froze. Llyr held his breath, his muscles tensed. No! She couldn't leave him here! What if a monster came to eat him up? What if the food was too hard? What if he fell asleep and never woke up? What if someone spoke to him!?

"Llyr?" He heard her voice, but it was distant, his vision reddening. Surely, this was what dying was like.

"LLYR!" Echo shouted and gently shook the boy.

He snapped out of it, Llyr took a breath and gasped for air. His eyes watered but no tears fell. Twisting he looked into Echo's face, searching for some sign that he would either go home with her or she would stay here. But her face was too difficult to read.

His bottom lip shook. "But... but, but..... no.... Echo, I wanna go home with you....!"

Echo gave him a quick, tensed hug. "I know, I know. But they will make you better here. You do want to get better, don't you?"

Llyr pouted more, but reluctantly, "Ye...es..."

The woman smiled and tweaked his nose, "See, there's my brave boy!"

Llyr frowned. He wasn't brave.

Echo took his silent as assent. "Well, then here we go. This nice nurse is going to take you to your room." She set the child on the ground then too his clammy hand. "Come on, Llyr," the woman smiled down at him and lead him to the nearest nurse. "Be a good boy, now."

Llyr's eyes watered again, he couldn't see anymore. The nurse tried to reach for his hand, but the boy only squeaked and jumped to the side - right into the side of the table. With another squeak and whimper, the boy let the nurse take his hand and lead him.

He didn't look back, he couldn't see anyways. When his vision cleared, all Llyr saw was white, but his cheeks continued to burn and he was cold - so cold.

Colder hands lifted im into the bed. Without a word, the boy crawled under the blankets to hide. He didn't even bother to look around.

Riley had noticed something was wrong with Emmet...which was amazing in its own right. The Military man wasn't known for being "Father of the Year" material. Hardly. The little Leucistic had always been a little off, what with the whole getting sick and puking when he was too nervous thing...but there was something different about the boy lately. He seemed tired a lot more often, and he wasn't using his heating pad as often as he used to...it was either Emmet had learned how to regulate his own body temperature, or something was up.

He'd been about to test his theory with a thermometer when the phone rang; that was perfect timing, as Riley didn't know the first thing about taking a snake-boy's temperature. The phone call was disturbing to say the least; at least he knew he was right about Emmet being sick...the boy was acting strange, and then he gets this phone call? Emmet must have contracted that possibly dangerous illness...and the thought made his stomach clench with worry. Another first for him.

After a quick glance over his apartment, Riley discovered Emmet coiled loosely and sleeping on the floor, on the cold ceramic tiles he normally never rested on. The man's lips pressed together in a line of disapproval (the boy's uncharacteristic actions didn't make that feeling of worry leave the pit of his stomach), he kneeled down and put his hand on Emmet's forehead. Definitely warm. Sighing, he scooped up the sleeping snake, grabbing his keys on the way out of the apartment.

The trip to D-Corp was pretty silent. Emmet stayed sleeping in his carseat, only waking up long enough to be taken out of it once they arrived...and then a more permanent wakeup when he was checked over by a technician. As always the little Leucistic stayed quiet in the face of a stranger or a new situation, but the occassional pleading glance was cast at Riley, hoping somehow the man would save him. It was a lost cause, but no one could fault him for trying. When he and Riley were told that Emmet would have to stay in Intensive care due to his advancement of the illness, Emmet let out his first real nose; a terrified cry.

"Riley!" Emmet pleaded, clinging to his guardian's hip and staring up at him with big black eyes. "Don't leave! Don't leave..." He continued to plead both desperately and sadly, his scaled little hands grabbing for whatever material they could get as Riley moved to crouch near him. The Military man's gaze was clouded, torn between being happy that his apartment would be child-less again, if only for a little bit...but also being sad, because Emmet wouldn't been there anymore. He'd gotten used to his scaredy chicken-snake who gave an unhappy cry from the other room whenever he noisily dropped a pan in the kitchen.

"I can't stay, Emmet. You've got to feel better, all right?" Were the only words that came out, his gaze slowly turning to meet the wide, pleading eyes of the little snake boy. "I'm sure you'll be fine. Tryst might even be staying in the same place." Not that he would wish Emmet's twin any sickness, but it was something that might make Emmet agree to surrender to the situation like a good boy. "You won't be alone Emmet, I promise. As soon as you're better I'll pick you up right away, and then you and Tryst and Romeo and Guinevere and whoever else you want can go to the Park or watch Batman or Enchanted or whatever else you want, okay?" Riley had never had to bribe Emmet before, the kid was usually good at doing things quietly...but his bribe seemed good to him, placing all of Emmet's friends with all of the things Emmet liked. "Just stay here, like a good boy. Stay here and get better, okay? You don't want to feel sick anymore, right?" The only response he got was Emmet shaking his head very slowly from side to side.

The little Leucistic let go of the Military man's grey shirt, his head lowered in defeat and sadness. He didn't watch Riley leave, he didn't try to cling, he didn't call out again, he didn't beg for a hug and nor did he get one. All he got was a big hand on his head, ruffling his very pale blue hair. "Be strong Emmet, I know you can do it. I'll come see you as soon as I can." Though he knew that wouldn't be until the illness was cured.

Riley walked away and out of sight, and Emmet was led to the Intensive Care unit by a technician he didn't recognize.

Emmet climbed onto his appointed bed with what upper body strength he had; though he only needed enough to get enough leverage to slither his full body length onto it. He coiled loosely on top of the sheets, still feeling too warm to cower underneath them; he was warm from both his fever and from fighting the urge to break down and cry. He felt sick, very sick...right from the pit of his stomach...but that was common, as this place was foreign to him, this bed was not his, and that lump on the bed two beds down wasn't familiar to him, either. As he lay there, on his stomach and using his own tail as a rest for his folded arms, which served as a pillow for his chin, he flicked his tongue in and out of his mouth; the taste of hospital wasn't appealing at all, but he did discover that the lump in the bed that was two beds down was another child at least. Very quietly, he studied the current occupants of the room, unsure of everything but two very, very important facts:

Tryst wasn't in this room. He was alone with a room full of strangers.

The thought made stomach twist.

Deet knew some thing was up the morning Leo said he wasn't hungry. He also knew some thing was up when he complained how hot he felt and that his tummy was upset. What Deet figured was just a bad cold quickly became a family emergency thanks to the call from D-Corp.

The young pig and his snake brother were hastily put in the delivery van, and Deet some how managed to make record time to the D-Corp Hospital in Aekea. The two boys were rather silent, normal for Leo but strange for Nihilo. Nihilo wasn't all that older than Leo, but he was rather perceptive, and just the look on Leo's face was enough to send off his "face radar" (some weird thing he got from being a Sin'Aeis) and he just knew how sick Leo was.

"...Here." Nihilo said, holding out the Godzilla toy to his younger brother who was already clutching his own Mr. Scruffles.

Nothing else was said by either boy as Deet took them out of the car, carrying Leo and holding Nihilo's hand as the three walked into the hospital.

***

"B-But dad...I wanna go home!" Leo sniffled-snorted, his large eyes already damp with tears as he clung to Deet's shirt. Nihilo stood their quietly, trying not to cry himself. Hell at this point it was hard for the large cat-man in his late twenties not to cry.

"H-Hey, c'mon now...Don't cry Leo. I-It'll only be for a little while. You'll be all better in no time and then you'll come right home. But you gotta stay here for a little bit, okay? Just until you're all better..." Deet said, trying to feign bravery in front of his adopted sons as he lowered Leo down to the floor. One final hug from Deet, and surprisingly one from Nihilo, and Leo was led off by a nurse, holding Godzilla and Mr. Scruffles in his chubby arms.

Leo didn't make a scene, the pig boy rarely ever did, as he climbed into the white bed. To his right sat a boy around his age with white and blue skin, and to his left sat a snake boy. Leo was actually kind of relieved to see the snake child: It reminded him of Nihilo. But even that wasn't enough to make him less afraid.

The pig boy didn't make a sound as he clung tightly to the toys, tears streaming down his chubby cheeks as he kept his eyes shut tight, wishing that when he opened them, he'd be home with his dad and big brother. He opened them, and his wish didn't come true.

Being only back home for a week and seeing that Drez slowly getting sick. But it was a little different than a normal cold which she had seen him have, but with this one he stared to get mood swings because all of his sences were wacked and sometimes he couldn't tell his ups from his downs which made him more prone to bite if people moved to quickly around him. Finaly getting to D-Corp and the both of them were taken to the Intensive Care room.

"I want you to try and be good while you stay here. I want to you to get better," Val said as she took Drez over to the bed one of the techs had indicated was his and he gave a small wimper.

"I don't want to stay here, it feels so weard here and I just want to go swimming!" he said with sweat beading on his brow and red cheeks.

"You can't, your too sick for that and I don't want you to get any worse that you all ready are." She stated and he just looked in her drection and if he could see, he would have given her a death stare. Slowly she knealed down to give him a hug. "I know you want to do other things but you have to stay and get better, no if and or buts." she sternly said.

Hearing the sturness in his mother voice that he really did have to stay here. He really did want to just soak in the water of his pool as it was a safe place, but lying in the bed would be better than slithering around and feeling that the ground was constly moving all around him in the wrong drections. Val helped Drez get in to bed kissed him on the head. "Mom could you put my hair up please," he asked.

Taking out a hair brush and then braded it up out of the way and in a neat bun that had none of the ordimtations in his hair that Drez normaly had in his hair.

"Thanks, but I still don't want to be here," he grumped as he was hugging his stuffed teddy bear and nibbleing on its ear in frustration.

"You will be fine, Drez and please don't bite anyone and I love you," she said as she and was lead out of the room by another tech.

Drez wasn't really going to promice on that one as he wished that his sences would work correctly for just a little to get his bearings in the room as his tongue ficked in and out trying to make sence of the things around him as he curled up in his bed and wishing that all of this would just go away.

Clay was the first one they whisked away from Marco as he brought the triplets in to be inspected. It was very sudden and the man barely got to say his goodbyes before a tech took him away.

"You'll be fine Clay, they're going to make you all better and you'll be home very soon!" Marco reassured the little boy giving him a big hug.

Clay was trying to be cool, trying not to be a baby, but he felt horrible, and on top of that they were going to take him away from his dad! He couldn't really help himself as he clung to Marco's pants burying his face in them refusing to let him go when a tech tried to pry him off.

"It will be alright Clay, I promise," Marco reassured him as he pet his hair giving him a final hug before he finally let go of the child.

Clay wasn't told much of anything, he was just shown into a room with other sick looking kids. He recognized one of them, Emmet, but he was Romeo's friend, Clay didn't much care for him.

Despite the large population of other children in the ward Clay snuffled and coughed some as he clambered into the bed. He just laid there wrapping the blanket around him and burying his face into the pillow. He was very upset, but he didn't have the strength to protest.

The child hidden under the crisp white sheets had managed to secretly bring the pillow under said sheets as well. Llyr heard other children come into the room and pick a bed, but he was never one to meet and greet, much less start conversations.

Besides, he was dying - for surely this was what dying felt like. His skin was hot all over but yet he was freezing cold, even under the blankets. Maybe he should ask for more...but no, that meant facing the adult nurse, or worse...the children he heard come in. He was hungry, his stomach grumbled, but just the thought of food made him nauseous. He wanted to sleep, but no matter how he twisted and turned under the blankets, and clenched his sick-encrusted eyes closed, sleep escaped him.

So Llyr remained, under the blankets, miserable and dying. Echo had told him to be brave - but all he wanted to do was end his suffering and sleep in his own bed. This one smelled funny.

Click, click, click. The quick tempo of heels upon tiled floor beat their way towards the intensive care ward. Dr. Acklin was swamped with the large number of critical cases and had asked Vivian to check in on those who were not as bad off. Yet. The woman had sighed when she'd heard what was going on. Children getting sick from something in their own bodies. How terrible.

The woman entered the room, glad to see that the children were doing as told and remaining in their beds. Vivian glanced about and finally made her way to the middle of the room where all of the children could see her. "Hello. My name is Vivian." The elderly woman flashed a smile at the sick kids. "I'm working with the doctor to try and find out what's making all of you sick. I know that being sick isn't fun, so hopefully we can get all you better as soon as possible and back to your homes."

"The best thing for all of you to do is help us by staying in your beds and resting. Sleep helps your body get better. If you start feeling worse, let one of the adults know. We can't make you feel better if we don't know how sick you are." She was a bit saddened to see almost all of the beds already filled in the room. They would have to work on this fast to try and keep these kids from getting worse.

Emmet had watched the other children come in, his eyes half lidded. He was so tired...but he was desperate to find anyone he would know, even remotely, to make this whole fiasco just a little bit better. Bad enough he was sick, but it made it so much worse since he knew nobody. Everyone knew that a sick child wasn't a child interested in making friends, after all. He perked up for a moment once he saw the Sea Krait, almost excited to meet another snake outside of his sister...but that excitement died down as quickly as it had shown up, and he put his head back down on his crossed arms.

The next time he perked up was when he saw Clay. Red pupils looked over the redhead, his tongue flicking through his lips. Clay was here, Clay was sick, too? He turned his attention towards the door again, almost hoping that Romeo would be coming, too...but alas, that was not the case! Part of him was relieved, the other part worried...could they be even worse? The snake was going to ask Clay, but it looked like the red-head didn't want to talk...usually stuffing your face into your pillow was a good indication of that. The little leucistic was all set to dwell on it until he fell asleep, but the appearance of the woman changed all that.

Even then, all he could do was nod a little bit to her words. He purposely didn't look at her, and shortly after she stopped talking he closed his black eyes and put his head back down on his arms, his warm cheek against his cooler-feeling fingers. It felt almost nice.

"Too hot." He murmured to himself, uncoiling himself loosely in some vague attempt at cooling himself down. It wasn't working, he still felt very warm. Despite how warm he said he was, he was lightly shivering; whether it was out of nerves or the human in him trying to regulate his temperature was up for debate, however.

((Sorry for taking so long every one!))

Leo clung to Mr. Scruffles as he listened to the lady, not exactly caring. It was good advice yes but really, all he wanted to know was WHEN he cold get home, not how. It had barely been an hour and he already missed Deet and Nihilo. Plus, he still felt warm but not bad enough to really say any thing.

Leo looked over on one side of him, seeing that the cool-looking blue and white kid was fast asleep. He then looked over at the snake boy, some thing that actually made him far more comfortable than the nurse, and saw that he wasn't doing much better.

In short: Sick, alone, and no one to talk to save for a floppy dog plush toy and a Godzilla doll. Terrific.

Every so often Drez would flick his tongue out several time trying to make out who was all in the room. But all the scent messages he got were so jumbled up and he was just sick enought that he couldn't pin point everything, save for his own scent and he did peark up when he did smell another snake, but hated the fact that he couldn't know where. He did want to meet all of the kids but not really haveing the energy to do so.

"Too hot and I want to go swimming," he said to himself but just loud enought for the others in the room to hear.

Moveing around in bed to find a confortable spot and found by colling around himself and placeing a pillow down on the top colling, then resting his head down on the pillow. But still flicking his tongue to make sence of things that were around him and just to go home.

Kliken only vaguely remembered being disentangled from Kate in the other room that he had been staying in, to sleepy at that moment to care. He didn't really remeber being changed out of his damp clothing into stuff the techs had on hand or being moved to the new room. What he did remember was waking up when he was laid down on a new bed where the sheets felt a lot cooler then he did.

He blinked a couple times, lifting a hand up to rub it against his eyes before looking around. He wasn't in the room that he'd started in anymore he realized... did that mean the reason he felt so warm and sleepy was because he was sick? He felt a moment of panic rush through his system at the thought of being sick. He didn't want to be sick! He sat up quickly and instantly regretted it as he had a moment of being dizzy before everything came back into focus.

The leech boy looked around the room quickly but didn't see Kate anywhere, didn't see Reese or the giraffe boy either, the snake girl wasn't here... and he felt worried. Where were all the other kids that he had been bunking with in the quarantine room? In fact he only saw one person in the room that he knew which caused him relief. Upon realizing that he was relieved to see someone he knew in a sick room he felt a bit guilty, and then lifted his hands up to cover his eyes to try to hold back a new rush of tears.

Being sick only seem to make it easier for the poor leech to break into tears.

There were many children in the intensive care unit. This was his last stop. He came into the room with some techs and quickly got to work. They went about the children administering the vaccine.

In a matter of hours the children should have the virus faught off, and then if all went well tomorrow they would all be able to go home. It was the doctors sincerest hope that this would be the case.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 09, 2008 11:42 pm

Kliken was a little nervous about the appearance of the doctor, sitting up on the bed he was occupying to watch what was going on. It was a flurry of activity that resulted in everyone in the room himself included getting a shot in the arm. He rubbed at it until it ached a little bit less and then continued to watch them. As soon as they had appeared they were gone again, "Huh..." They weren't to talkative were they? He had only heard a little bit of what was being said among them and he went quiet as he mulled it over, a vaccine? That was good right, it meant that everyone would get better? Everyone that he had been sharing the room with would perk up and break free of the hold that their sickness had on them!

He got a hopeful look to his eyes that had been missing while he was stuck here. He had spent to much time in D-Corp already to really like being here for extended amounts of time. The thought that getting better would get him out of here was something that made him perk up. Even if he was current feeling a bit under the weather.

The little leech boy laid back on his bed, starring at the ceiling. First thing he wanted to do when he got home was to curl up in his mother's arms and not leave them for as long as was possible. Then swimming, good food, and a change of clothing. What he got to eat here was alright but the blood that was served at home was far better. He merely hoped he didn't creep out the nice doctor who was taking care of all of them or the other kids around him with his strange eating habits. Even that ever present worry couldn't bring him down at the moment though.
