-Wisteria is a genus of about ten species of woody climbing vines native to
-the eastern United States and the East Asian states of China, Korea, and
-Japan.

-Wisteria vines climb by twining their stems either clockwise or counter-
-clockwise round any available support. They can climb as high as 20
-meters above ground and spread out 10 meters laterally.

-The genus was named after Dr. Caspar Wistar (1761 - 181 cool , a professor
-of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania. As a consequence, the
-name is sometimes given as "Wistaria", but the spelling Wisteria is
-conserved under the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.

-Wisteria, especially Wisteria sinensis, is very hardy and fast-growing. It
-is considered an invasive species in certain areas. It can grow in fairly poor-
-quality soils, but prefers fertile, moist, well-drained ones. It thrives in full sun to
-partial shade.

-Wisteria can be propagated via hardwood cutting, softwood cuttings, or
-seed. However, seeded specimens can take decades to bloom; for that
-reason, gardeners usually grow plants that have been started from
-rooted cuttings or grafted cultivars known to flower well. Maturation can be
-forced by physically abusing the main trunk, root pruning, or drought stress.

-Wisteria can grow into a mound when unsupported, but is at its best when
-allowed to clamber up a tree, pergola, wall, or other supporting structure.
-Whatever the case, the support must be very sturdy, because old wisteria
-can grow into immensely strong and heavy wrist-thick trunks and stems.
-These will certainly rend latticework, crush thin wooden posts, and can
-even strangle large trees.

-Wisteria flowers develop in buds near the base of the previous year's
-growth, so pruning back side shoots to the basal few buds in early spring
-can enhance the visibility of the flowers. The flowers of some varieties are
-edible, and can even be used to make wine. Others are said to be toxic.

China has one of the world's oldest people and
continuous civilizations, consisting of states and cultures dating back more
than six millennia. It has the world's longest continuously used written
language system, and is the source of such major inventions as what the
British scholar and biochemist Joseph Needham called the "four great
inventions of Ancient China": paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing.
Historically, China's cultural sphere has been very influential in East Asia as a
whole, with Chinese religion, customs, and writing system being adopted, to
varying degrees, by its neighbors Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

Beriberi is a disease caused by a lack of thiamine (vitamin B1). It
is common in people whose diet consists mainly of polished white rice,
which is very low in thiamine because the thiamine-bearing husk has been
removed.

Its symptoms include weight loss, emotional disturbances, impaired
sensory perception, weakness and pain in the limbs, and periods of
irregular heart rate. Edema (swelling of bodily tissues) is common. In
advanced cases, the disease may cause heart failure and death.

Wet beriberi affects the heart; it is sometimes fatal, as it causes a
combination of heart failure and weakening of the capillary walls
Dry beriberi causes wasting and partial paralysis resulting from damaged
peripheral nerves. It is also referred to as endemic neuritis.

Full name: David Joseph Tine
Nicknames: Davey, Dave, Darling
Goes by: David
Stage: Toddler
Hair: Purple
Eyes: Purple

Race: Hiccup
Spirit: Young Chinese boy dead of beriberi
Vessel Wisteria
Sexuality: ???

Abilities: Support by vines
Likes: Quiet, toys, rich foods, affection
Dislikes: Raised voices, bright lights, dogs

Other: David has no real control over the vines that writhe beneath his skin and occasionally protrude. When they break the skin, they cause a short burst of pain, but being so close to the epidermis, there is no bleeding. David is also paralyzed, his human legs dangling uselessly above the vines that support him. Also, his wisteria vines do not yet seem to flower, but they can indeed be used as tentacles of sorts, giving him the use of multiple limbs. Here is a diagram of the connection of vines to David's tailbone, and how they can support him.

Full name: Gwendolyn Rose Tine
Nicknames: Gwen
Goes by: Gwendolyn
Age: 280+ years
Height: 5' 4"
Hair: White
Eyes: Pink/Mauve

Race: Sustained Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Single

Occupation: None, occasional street performer
Likes: Sweets, tea, reading, calm days
Dislikes: Busy cities, punishment, horses, bad manners

Past: Gwen was born in the 1740s to an average family in an average farming home. In her 16th year, she was run over and crushed by a horse-drawn cart. Devastated, her parents brought their only daughter to a supposedly evil woman. Being a witch (more open now than back in those days of Gaia), she gave Gwen a cursed amulet. As long as she wore it, she was to stay alive. Clearly, Gwen continues living to this day, so long as the chain remains around her neck.

Other: Gwen is an OCA1 oculocutaneous albino, lacking all pigment. Her hair is white, and her eyes pink with mauve pupils (all of the color therein is just a reflection of the inside of the eye). She is inflicted with nystagmus and lazy eye, and is legally blind (she sees only blurs, on most occasions). She also is extremely sensitive to changes in light and the sun.

Suzie?
Suzie is Gwen's guardian, a tiny sheep with no gender (although Gwen decided a long time ago that she was to be a "she"). She is only so large that one can cup her in two hands.
