The kitten wanted to play and Kazuyo was happy to play with the adorable little baby and they lost track of time. As night approached Kazu wondered where the kitten's mother was.

"Where is your mother, little one." Kazuyo asked the cute kitten.

"I do not know, I went to play a few weeks ago and haven't seen my parents since," said the kitten and Kazuyo's eyes widened.

"You can talk! Wow, I did not know that a cat could talk. Well I didn't know a cat could have wings either." Kazuyou said in a surprised tone, but the shock of a cat with wings and that could talk barely caused Kazuyo to blink an eye. She accepted it without explaination but was curious.

"My name is Yuri, and I am a whimsical. I am of the sidhekynd species and there are many other species out there too. The most come being everkynd, now they are your normal cats. What is your name and can I choose you to be my owner should you want to be? That is why you can understand what I am saying to you." Yuri explained to the startled Kazu. "Please keep me?" she asked.

Kazu, still a little surprised, smiled and nodded. "Yes, you may. I was planning on building an animal paradise here and just finished construction. You will be my first official resident. And my name is Kazuyo Ogasawara, but you can call me eith, Kazuyo or Kazu. And welcome Yuri, to my home. But please tell me more about these creatures you call the whimsicals. I am very curious. You said that there are cats and dogs of each species?"

Yuri began her explaination. "Yes there are. First, you have your everkynds which are normal cats and dogs. Then you have us sidhekynds who are your fairy type creatures. Next are the lachkynds, which are your water dwellers. I know that there are other species as well but I do not know enough about them to give you an accurate report. Well, many of us live in a place called the Garden which is usually hidden though some people venture in and many of us whimsicals will venture out and travel around to see the world. That was what my mom and I were doing when my mom disappeared."

"Do you want to go look for your mother?" Kazuyo asked, concerned for the blue kitten.

"No, I am sure that she is dead and though it saddens me I know it to be true in my heart. She would want me to live my life happy and as playful as the day I was born. I think she would like you which is why I chose you to be my owner. Is that okay?"

"Yes, Yuri, that is fine. Come now let us go see our new home." Kazuyo said and picked up the fairy kitten and carried her out of the surrounding forest and into the open field where she could see the huge house up ahead of them.

"That is our home?" Yuri asked in awe.

"Yes," Kazuyo smiled and walked the length to the door and opened it allowing Yuri to jump down and run off to explore the new house. Kazuyo was happy to have already found an animal in need of rescuing and hoped to be able to save many more.

It was getting late and Kazuyo made the bed in the room across the hall from her own bedroom. She smiled as she showed Yuri her new bedroom. The blue kitten took off on her wings to explore all the corners of the new room but Kazuyo could tell that the kitten was getting tired and that it was time for bed. She called over to Yuri and tucked her in.

The kitten was fast asleep in minutes and Kazuyo headed back to her room. After changing and getting into bed, she fell asleep thinking about all the new experiences she would have now that her animal rescue was officially open for business with her new resident: the fairy kitten Yuri.

A few days later, on Halloween, Yuri and Kazu went out trick-or-treating. Yuri was having a blast being out in public with no one staring at her oddly. They all thought she was just a cat whose owner had made a really cool costume. Many approached Kazuyo and asked how she could make it so authentic.

Kazuyo would just smile and said she found the costume in the trash and washed it. "Honestly, that's all I did." Kazuyo also explained to Yuri why this was one of the only days Yuri could come out in public. "I was still skeptic about taking you out tonight. You understand that not everyone is as nice as me and many would capture you to use you for money. They wouldn't care if you got hurt or died in the process. But on Halloween everyone is dressed up and people just believe that it is a costume. So today is probably the only day it is safe for you to venture outside the paradise I am making."

Yuri nodded in complete understandment. "Besides I wouldn't want to go anywhere with out you anyway. You are my friend and we have fun at the house too. But I do admit this Halloween of yours is fun. I like the candy you get. It tastes good." Yuri explained gobbling down a few M&Ms.

"Well normally France does not celebrate Halloween, except in this quarter. See, in this quarter, there are a lot of Americans with kids so they celebrate it anyway. So I thought you might like to enjoy the day and get some candy." Kazu said with a smile as she saw how happy Yuri was.

Meanwhile, back at the house, the mysterious, blue pumpkin, began to crack. It cracked all the way down the middle before splitting open completely revealing a blue god with wings similar to those of Yuri's. The dog wondered where he was and began searching for something to eat.

Yuri and Kazuyo came back an hour later and Yuri immediately saw the destroyed pumpkin and ran to it. "What happened to it?" she asked, her voice sad at the thought of anyone destroying something of hers or Kazu's.

Kazu looked at the pumpkin and remembered her previous thought about the possibility that it wasn't a pumpkin at all. It reminded her now of a chicken egg that was still around after the chick hatched from it. "It think it was like an egg but not with a chick in it. We may have company so be careful Yuri.

Yuri was nodding, when the creature came back into the room. He looked around and looked back and forth between Yuri and Kazuyo. He had originally come in when he saw Yuri flying around. He had been worried that she was alone and was going to get herself hurt so had come back into the room. He was glad that Yuri was okay and just having some fun but felt awkward for charging into the room as he had done.

He looked at Kazuyo for a while and decided that if the sidhekynd kitten was here, then Kazuyo was a good person. "Hi, my name is Kyo, sorry for the mess of the pumpkin but it is not easy to get out of those things.

Kazuyo nodded as if she understood. "So are you a sidhekynd too? Like Yuri?" she said as she was already picking up the pieces of the pumpkin and throwing them away.

Yuri was flying around the room happily once she realized that Kyo was another whimsical like her. But she stopped curiously as she looked at Kyo. "Wait a minute, you are a teen but you are smaller than me. And how can you be a teen when you were just born out of that pumpkin? And why were you born out of a pumpkin, where is your mom and dad?" Yuri bombarded him with questions."

"Okay, let me answer these questions one at a time." Kyo paused then began again. "To answer your first question, yes, in a way, I am also a sidhekynd. More accurately though is that I am a subspecies of a sidhekynd. Each species has a subspecies called minikynd. We are smaller and are not born of actual parents. We are often born in objects such as that pumpkin over there. We are babies while inside those objects and as we mature to teen we break out of these pumpkins or whatever object we are born in. Being of the subspecies minikynd, means that we are smaller than your average whimsical. Also, I will never grow to be an adult but will always stay as a teen."

"Wow!" Yuri exclaimed. "I had heard of minikynds, but I never believed that they existed. It is nice to meet you!"

Kyo smiled. "It is nice to meet you too. So where is this place? It is definately not the garden. Do you know how my pumpkin home got here?"

Kazuyo smiled at Yuri's new friend. She had noticed Kyo's protective instinct right off the bat when he charged in here to check up on Yuri. She finished cleaning up the last bit of pumpkin and returned to the two whimsicals. "I am not sure how you got here. My guess is someone saw a unique pumpkin, grabbed it to sell and make some money, but you rolled away. Your pumpkin rolled here too, so I know it is capable of moving. And this is my animal paradise which is located somewhere in the south of France. Since you don't have anywhere to go, why don't you stay with us. Yuri already like you and she loves to have people to play with. It is always nice to make new friends."

Kyo thought about it for a moment. Technically he had already chosen to stay with Kazuyo and Yuri because he opened up and talked to Kazuyo. He chose his person, and had developed a rapport with her so their was no going back there. And he liked Yuri and Kazu so his decision was made. "I will stay, thank you. But first, I do not think I caught your names?"

"My name is Yuri," she said while flying around Kyo who watched her like a hawk to make sure she didn't get hurt.

"And I am Kazuyo, but you can call me Kazu too." she said. "Why don't we go and get you a room set up." Kazuyo walked toward the hall of rooms and they picked out a small room near Yuri's. They got the room ready and ended up hanging out there till late when they all crawled back into their rooms exhausted and fell asleep.

For the next month, the group lived in relative peace. Even Kyo, with his protective nature, and Tristan, with his mischievious nature, somehow managed to become friends. Yuri and Fae especially became close as they were of the same species. Where Yuri was placeful, Fae was serene and relaxed.



It was the beginning of December, when Kazuyo witnessed Yuri grown into an adult. Her yellow wings expanded down her back causing her flying strength to increase tenfold. Yuri could even carry Fae with her now as they flew off to find somewhere to play. Yuri also grew in size and Kazuyo looked at Fae, then to Yuri, and saw that even though whimsicals were not large creatures, they did grow quite some bit. Yuri happy to be an adult now, raced around the room.

Kyo watched Yuri and remembered when Yuri first grew. He looked at Fae and realized that she would be reaching her teen stage soon as well. He looked at Kazuyo and saw that she had come to the same conclusion as he had. Both had a smile on their faces.

Tristan congratulated Yuri and poked Fae, teasing her that she was still a kitten but as usual Fae ignored his antics and just sat there smiling.

Kazuyo smiles. "She will grow soon, I remember how quickly Yuri grew, and if you are not careful Tristan, she will soon be and adult. And remember since she can fly she will have the advantage over you."

Tristan looked down at the ground and everyone laughed. Soon even Tristan was laughing knowing that they were all friends and not being mean but teasing.



Three days later, Kazuyo and Kyo's prediction came true. Fae grew into a more beautiful teen with her lovely pink wings expanding and becoming stronger. She was now starting to be able to keep up with Yuri, and the added strength helped. She didn't get as excited as Yuri when she grew by accepted it calmly as was her nature.

Tristan glowered for a hour before congratulating Fae on becoming a teen. "Just remember, you are still a teenager and I am an adult. I am still stronger than you. Fae just smiled at this.

Yuri flew around excitedly because now she could take Fae to explore the farther sides of the garden now that her wings could handle the flight. She would have dragged Fae off right then but Kazuyo stopped her and told her to wait till tomorrow before testing Fae's new limits.

Kyo smiled and gave Tristan an I told you so look before congratulating Fae. He was happy to see another one of his friends maturing and wondered how many more in his lifetime would come here and grow from kitten to adult. He was happy that this family was growing and becoming closer.

Kazuyo smiled, Fae had turned out to grow just as beautifully as Yuri had done and Kazu knew that Fae would turn into a beautiful feline one day. Where Yuri had the playfulness that attracted people, Fae had her beauty and sereneness that brought people to their knees. She couldn't wait to meet new whimsicals and other creatures. Each one was different, no matter is they were the same species or breed. They all grew up with their own personalities and goals. She hoped one day to meet them all.
