"Mooooom! I can't find any of the boxes!"
Inside the Traverse household, chaos seemed to reign. Half the rooms were empty, boxes and wrapping paper were strewn about, and everything seemed to have been hit by a typhoon. Rune sighed, brushing an escaped lock of dark blue hair from her face as she looked over her shoulder. "Tex, we have a million boxes in the living room."
"But Chloe took them into the girl's room, and she won't let me in to get any of the bloody things." The little redheaded demon boy had his favorite cowboy hat jammed slightly sideways on his head, a gunbelt around his waist - though minus the weapons, of course. Rune gave him a dark look, and he threw up his hands. "Whhhaaaat? Cody says it!"
"Cody isn't supposed to either." Rune glanced at the ceiling. ~Chloe Jasmine Traverse! You give your brother boxes if he needs them!~

Neme had been forced into taking her younger siblings out for fun by Indu, who was TRYING to get some work done, and the green-haired 'thug' was not happy with that. Or with the fact that Yael-Krie and Zar were insisting that they approached a particular house. Jani was shooting various things with her slingshot and shot the door instead of knocking, a wide grin on her freckled face.
"Yeh all need ter shaddup 'n stop bein' hy-er. S'noyin'"
Only her siblings and other Sakti could really understand Neme, and she didn't give a damn. Her accent was rather thick, and she lapsed into her native language often. Jani gave her an uncooperative wink and Zar simply giggled. Yael, who couldn't HEAR, simply waited with a calm, pleased smile for the door to open.

At the boom on the front door, Tex ran promptly down the hall to greet the visitors, completely ignoring the telepathic argument between his now-elder sister and his mother over the boxes. His older brother Cody - a Temporal Ninjutsu - came sliding down the front banister to join him as he flung open the thick wooden slab. "Hiya!" He grinned cheerfully at Neme. "Who're you?"
Cody, on the other hand, focused his gaze on Zar, Yael and Jani. "Hey, Zar! Yael, Jani, hi! Where's your mom?"

The teen blinked down at Tex, a blank expression on her face before she turned indignant. Stupid children, the nerve of them!
"Neme, Oo th' 'ell're yeh?"
Yael squirmed in her older sister's arms and Nemetona set her down, mumbling under her breath. Jani, now the spokesperson for the children, grinned at Cody.
"Hullo! Ma's tryin tah work, real grumpy since she got fatter."
She meant since she'd gotten pregnant, but whatever.

(*dies laughing* I don't remember, did IC Rune know Indu was preggers?)
Cody laughed, taking in Jani's slingshot with an appreciative glance. "She is, huh? Well, come on in and visit - Mom's in the living room, we're movin' so the house is a mess."
"And Chloe took all the boxes." Tex interrupted promptly with a roll of his eyes. "She's a big teen now, so she's got all sorts of stupid girl stuff - ow! Mooooom, Chloe's using jutsu to throw things at me again!"
"Tex, get out of the way." A calm, female voice ordered. A tall youth with short brown hair came from behind her brothers, gently pushing them aside as she nodded graciously to Neme. Silver-furred cat ears on her head twitched lightly, and four large scars - like the clawtracks of some huge beast - ran across her face from her left temple to her right chin. Large brown eyes glowed warmly at the visitors. "I'm sorry, my brothers are rude sometimes. That's Cody, that's Tex, and I'm Nikki." She grinned at Yael, waving her fingers at the baby. "Your mom got Yael and Zar from our adoption center. Hi, sweetie."

[Nope. Only just happened, and you won't believe who the father is... XD]
Yael gave Nikki a dimpled grin, mimicing her and waving her fingers back. She couldn't hear, but that didn't stop her from understanding attitudes, and reading lips. She could speak, a little, though most of it was garbled, and to learn words, she usually had to mimic the way another's mouth moved.
"Aiiii!"
Sjajan grabbed ahold of Yael's hand, and stashed her slingshot in her back pocket, smiling at Cody briefly before tugging her hand and walking into the house, Zar on her shoulders like usual.
Neme gave a rare smile to Nikki, impressed. Not only could she speak English properly, she also seemed to be in charge of things. Neme had only mastered the second. Plus that scar was awesome. Jani's was only about half the size.

Nikki smiled back at Neme, standing back so the teen could enter. She understood how hectic taking care of little kids could be, especially in large groups - her mother never seemed to have less than two at a time, and with Nikki as the resident babysitter, she'd learned early. "Cody, tell Chloe Jani is here, she'll want to - "
"Jani!" With a happy call, Chloe herself ran down the front stairs, ignoring Tex as the little demon made horrible faces behind her back. Now surprisingly a teenager, the Tenjutsu girl still had her nearly maroon hair cut short, a black body-suit under black cargo pants with matching black boots and right arm brace relieved only by a silver chain around her waist like a belt. "You grew! Wow, is that a scar? What happened? Hi, Zar, Yael."
Nikki rolled her eyes, patiently lifting Zar onto one hip so her sister could hug her friend. "Anyone hungry?" She asked, deliberately turning so Yael could see her speak. Something about the way the baby watched her mouth made her suspect something might be going on there. "We've got some juice boxes and stuff in the kitchen."

Sjajan's eyes widened a bit, and she took a step back from Chloe, brown eyes startled and wary. She remembered a Chloe, but she was a whole lot smaller. Why did everyone get so much bigger and cooler than her? Still, Chloe WAS her friend, wasn't she? She'd still play with Jani if she was small, right?
"I was fightin' wih this boy 'n he cut muh cheek. I won, though.... Yah look really cool!"
Zar hugged himself onto Nikki, small fingers gripping her shirt tightly as he made faces at Yael. The two were each other's most common playmates, and the small girl ignored him, staring unabashed at Nikki's mouth. Though she could mimic a sound, she rarely got it exactly right. Indu was working on a way to teach Yael to speak more clearly.
"'Ael ungee!"
Neme shut the door behind herself, looking around the cluttered room before jerking her chin up at Nikki, curious.
"Why're yeh 'ere? Got no frien's 'er summin'?"
She wasn't trying to offend her, that was just how Neme was. Most kids Nikki's age stayed out of the house if they had one as busy as this.

Chloe grinned and hugged her friend, pleased. "Ya look awesome too. The scar makes you look tough. And I'm glad you won. Has your mom been teaching you fighting moves?" The fact that Jani was actually smaller than she now didn't appear to mean much; then again, she'd outgrown her other best friend, Shippo, and it didn't matter one whit to her. "Tex, go get the stupid boxes from Kiri and stop being a pest."
"I've got a few." Nikki laughed, more amused than insulted by Neme's question. "Mostly in Illuzen - where Mom's from - rather than here. Plus, I'm kinda a homebody. I like taking care of kids and stuff, so with us moving, I figured I'd keep an eye on the younger ones."
Tickling Zar cheerfully, she detatched his little fingers and handed him to Cody, who grinned and settled the little boy on his shoulders. Picking up Yael, the cat girl smiled. "Well, we'll have to get you something to eat, won't we?" She glanced at Neme, gesturing for the green-haired girl to follw. "Your accent's nice. Scottish?"

"Ahh, neh, buh tha's close 'nuff."
In fact, it was closer than most thought. Sakti like Nemetona were spirits from another world that was much like early scottland and Ireland. Neme grinned, flashing her small fangs and shook her head as she followed Nikki.
"Ah canna' see 'ow yeh loik babes tha' much. Dun 'ey get on yer nerves? Ah've o'ly got Radha, Tilt, 'n Ellic to 'ang wih, buh tha's 'nuff I s'pose...."
"Nuh uh! My big cousins 'ave! An' Neme!"
Jani's grin grew when she realized that Chloe didn't care how big she was, and she grabbed the other girl's hand and squeezed, tugging her away from the kitchen and everyone else.
"Tell me about growin'! Why do yah got the fancy getup?"
Zar looked slightly alarmed as he was passed on, then gripped Cody's hair, watching Yael almost suspiciously. The deaf girl stuck out her tounge at him, as if it had been a game to see who Nikki would choose to carry, and clung tighter to the older girl.

(*giggle, snort* Omg, I could see that. What I wouldn't give for a GMFC appointment right now. *edited just in case*) xd
Nikki laughed. "You sound like some of my sisters." She told Neme, deftly sidestepping a feline-looking dragon as it shot from another doorway and off down the hall. "I guess they drive me nuts sometimes, but I'm good with 'em, so they're okay. Ya hungry?" She ruffled Yael's hair gently, and Cody tickled Zar with a cheerful laugh.
"This?" Chloe glanced down and laughed. "It's what I usually wear. Drives some of Mom's diplomats nuts, but Mom really doesn't care as long as it's not too extreme. She even bought me the belt." With a sudden look of remembering, the Tenjutsu dug into her pocket and produced a second silver chain, rather smaller. "This was from when I was your size, I bet it would fit you! Want it?"

Sjajan didn't get many gifts, at least, not from friends. The older ones weren't really into that sort of thing, and the younger ones... Well, they didn't even know what a gift was. The blonde's eyes, if they could get any larger, widened and she hesitantly reached out, fingertips touching the chain.
"R-really? I kin 'ave it? Thank yah!"

Neme shook her head at the question and lifted Zar from Cody's shoulders, glancing over at Nikki briefly while she spoke, though her eyes trained on Cody once more, analyzingly.
"Naw, Ah dun et much o' th' food 'roun' 'ere, dun loik et. Mehbeh a drin'?"
Zar almost politely held onto her shirt as she held him against her hip, leaning down to eye Rune's boy closely.
"Yeh. Turn 'roun. Lemee see yeh."

Chloe nodded, looking pleased. "It should look good on you. Like a modern amazon chick." She lifted the end with the clasp and carefully pulled it open. "Want it around your neck, or your waist? It probably won't stay on your arm."
Nikki hardly even batted an eye at the request for a drink, though she did raise an eyebrow. "Scotch for the Scot?" She asked, a rare trace of teasing in her tone.
Cody blinked and turned obediently, arms folded. He looked rather surprised at Zar's sudden disappearence from his head, but he suspected the boy's older sister had a reason. Guiless green eyes stared back at Neme, his spiky golden hair flopping over them like bangs. "What's up?"

Nikki probably didn't know it, but Neme's siblings were shocked, shocked at the sight of the teen's grin flashing again. Twice in ten minutes? The only other person that happened with was Neme's 'best' friend, Radha. Pausing in her inspection of Cody, she raised both her eyebrows at the other girl appreciatively.
"Yah, shuh, tha' be grea.'"
Green eyes fixed on Cody's and her gaze was rather instense and she almost smiled at him. Something she rarely did at all around younger people.
"Yer ah guh' 'un. Gunna be stron' ain'tcha?"

"Anywhere! Maybe muh waist, Miggy says belts are real cool."
With the lack of Chloe to guide her, her rolemodel had slowly become Mignon, though she didn't want to be exactly like the girly princess.
