Florian fidgeted, uncomfortable on his narrow perch. Aviadracus were far more suited to clambering around in trees, he thought sourly, but he'd figured it was the best to get a good view of the famed sunrise over the forest. He peered into the east, but the horizon was merely faintly pink, just as it had been the previous minute. There was no sign of the sun yet.
With a sigh, the young 'painter settled himself slightly more comfortably amongst the branches, ignoring the one digging into his side. If he was honest, it was not just the awkward position making him uneasy. He'd just left home, but he wasn't even a day's travel away, yet. It felt like cheating. He knew some of his peers had been here before, even when they were young - well, so had he, but he couldn't really remember it, and he wanted to experience it properly, as an adult. It was a good first stop, he told himself. Besides, he was here now, and disentangling himself from the tree was a problem he didn't want to have to face just yet.
There was an owl glaring at him from a nearby branch. Florian blinked, and tried not to look at it. He suspected he was occupying its usual daytime perch. He hoped it wasn't one of the dire owl spirits that the Aviadracus trained; it fetching its bonded to get him to move could result in a rather awkward situation. Just what he didn't want.

Nila skimmed over the ground toward the Scrub Forest, heading north and east, her broad wings flapping only when necessary. She rather enjoyed flight, and was planning to join Kitxoone's Camp to learn magic, and she privately hoped it would be air or water magic, since she loved the waters and the rain, the wind, the clouds, the sun, the moon, and the stars so much.
She did not, however, enjoy flying into the sun, being currently high enough to see it better than those on the ground, and it made her eyes hurt. She started looking for a place to land to rest her eyes when she thought she spotted another Painter, a golden one with blue and white markings. Curious, she angled down toward him.

Kodiak was flying back to the canyon when a shadow passed over him. He looked up to see a dark Sandpaint heading towards the forest. Her markings intrigued him. Despite the run-in he'd had with a wyvern not too long ago, he was still interested in meeting other dragons. He winged upward to see where she was headed.

The sound of wingbeats above him was unexpected. Florian twisted round in surprise, craning his neck to look up into the sky. Who else would be out at this hour? Was it someone else who wanted to watch the sunrise? He frowned. There was certainly a dark shape up there, but male or female, wyvern or aviadracus or common, he couldn't tell. There was not yet enough light in the sky for him to pick out any details.
He was about to turn away, back to his sunrise, when he caught sight of the shape of another 'painter, who seemed to be following the first. The first didn't seem aware of his or her shadow, and Florian suspected that the follower wanted it that way.
He shifted in his tree, freeing one bright wing to wave at the approaching dark shape. He might as well warn the flier hat they were being followed. And then - he glanced across to the east, and although the horizon was still lightening he saw no sign of the fabled rainbow glory of the forest - he could go back to watching his sunrise.

Nila found a suitable place to land nearby, backwinging a little to make the landing smooth. It was only then, when she was getting her bearings, that she noticed a brown Painter was following her. She concentrated on finding the yellow Painter, rather than on her follower, since he or she would still be following her later, or at least such was her assumption.

Kodiak saw the dark female land among the trees. A flash of yellow caught his eye. He spotted another painter in the trees. Maybe this was a gathering of some sort and these were the first arrivals. He circled and found a likely landing spot near the yellow painter. He landed in a tree close enough to chat, but not close enough to feel intrusive.

Florian blinked at the patterned brown male who'd landed nearby. "Oh, hello," he said, wondering how it had suddenly got so busy around here. He was keeping an eye out for the darker painter, who he believed had landed somewhere around... at least, she'd just disappeared, shortly after she'd got close enough for him to tell she was a she, and he couldn't think where else she'd be. She must have landed on the ground.
The white-marked youngster smiled politely at his unexpected companion, coughed, and then asked the awkward question that was on his mind. "Were you, uh, following that dark female then?"

"Hello. I hope I'm not disturbing you." Kodiak tried to settle himself on the tree limb. This weren't the easiest place to get a comfortable perch. "I saw the dark one when I was flying in from the beach. She has rather unique markings, don't you think? I was curious as to where she was going at such an early hour." Kodiak noticed the young male fidgeting. "What brings you out into the tree tops this early?"

Nila couldn't see her follower after he landed closer to the yellow Painter, but she heard two male voices and walked closer very quietly, drawing in her wings to carefully navigate through the forest. The sun must have been high enough above the horizon to make the world beautiful, because every droplet of dew shone like a diamond, reflecting prisms of colored light in their depths, the light was a soft gold that streamed in amongst the trees so delicately, and there was the most delicate of morning mists trailing and making the dawn's light look even more ethereal.
((OoC: Being a morning person who actually gets up to watch the sunrise in a forest, this was easy to describe but still not do the dawn justice.))

Florian wasn't really listening to his brown-scaled companion's words, or looking out for the dark female, because the sun had finally risen over the horizon and the forest was shining. Rainbow light shot from every leaf, every branch. He blinked, squinting a little. Beyond the trees the sky still glowed gold and pink, and an iridescent mist weaved amongst them. It was beautiful, and after a moment when he turned to the other male, he was grinning widely.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" he remarked, not really expecting an answer. A moment later he glanced down and caught sight of the female. "Hello," he called cheerfully.

Nila came forward quietly. "Hello. It is indeed a beautiful, fresh new day. What is your name?" She noticed how deep her voice was, as she often did when speaking when other Painters were listening to her and she was subconsciously more carefully than usual listening to herself.

Kodiak saw that the young male's interest was elsewhere. He looked in the direction of the yellow dragon's gaze. The first rays of the morning sun were peaking over the horizon. Kodiak looked back at the other dragon sitting in the tree tops and saw the rays of light shining on the yellow dragon making him glow like the sun itself. Kodiak glanced over at the female. The morning rays danced over her markings giving them almost a life of their own.

Well she was friendly. Florian smiled down at her, leaning rather precariously to get a better view. "My name's Florian," he said, "What's yours? And you?" he added, turning to the brown male with a grin. "Introductions all round?"
This was good; he'd not been away from home even a day and he was already making new friends. He was pleased with himself for that. It wasn't something he'd ever been much good at - making friends, or keeping them, although he'd never been able to work out why. It didn't matter though, not now. This was his new start. He was going to see everything, and learn all that he could, and when he returned home he would be unrecognisable. The young 'painter grinned to himself. This really was a very good start.

"Introductions are indeed in order," Nila said. "My name's Nila." It surprised her, too, to have met this many other Painters so quickly, but life was full of surprises, which was one of the things that made life interesting, in her opinion. One never knew what was going to happen exactly, so it was best to just relax, and let the winds of time and change sweep you along, taking care to steer from time to time if necessary.

"I'm Kodiak. I'm just a nosey ole painter. I saw the young lady," he nodded at Nila, "fly over and I was curious as to where she was going. I don't see many painters out before dawn."
