Sky bare of clouds, it was a surprisingly warm day for the end of summer, especially since it had been raining off-and-on throughout the week before. Weather had become rather unpredictable as of late, though today was a nice change; Shamir preferred it when it was sunny out, and although it was still morning and the weather still variable, the rat was glad to be out.
Life at the apartment complex he had been staying at had grown rather... loud as of late. There were people coming and going at all times of the day, and although he didn't blame them for it -- after all, nobody wanted to be cooped up indoors all the time -- with so many people doing it, it could get on one's nerves. It wasn't too big of a deal, as it managed to get the rat outside, after all.
There were a couple of positive things about being out at this time. The park was still pretty empty, as people usually came through here when it got warmer throughout the day, and the quiet atmosphere was pretty relaxing. Shay tore off a piece of stale bread he had brought with him, tossing it out to the geese and ducks in the pond before leaning back a little in the bench he was seated at. Tilting his head, he watched the birds swim around before one of them decided to take its leave. "I wonder what it's like to fly," he murmured quietly to himself, shielding his eye once the goose flew in front of the sun.
Glancing back to the birds in the water, his hands fiddled absently with the slice of bread in his hands. He was getting kind of low on the reserves, and he wasn't planning on leaving so soon. His ears twitched to the sound of a man on his cell; seemed as though there were people on their way to work through here. It wasn't surprising, as it wasn't that early in the morning, but... eh, cell phones bugged him for some reason. He sighed as he tied the remainder of the loaf of bread at his side closed; he wasn't leaving, but he didn't want it to be gone too soon.
(( Wow, that was... shorter than I meant it to be. DX ))

Sunlight kissed with a surprising tenderness at his face, causing his nose to crinkle his nose comfortably whilst he strolled about the park with a selfish, though friendly intent. He had come across Shamir not too long after he had began his search, which had been a blessing, to say the least.
His first instinct, understandably enough, had been to keep from approaching the unfriendly-looking male; it had been when he fed the birds, however, that the rabbit decided against his better judgment, after which he began his forward movement without hesitance. He offered a large smile when he finally stood before him, his eyes sparkling. "Why hello there, stranger!" The greeting had been loud, as intended - but aside from that, he hadn't anticipated much else. He had been seeking friendly gestures and words, admittedly. Some time had passed since he had last conversed with his brother, and his yearning for attention was overwhelming. Hands intertwined with one-another behind him as he took a step backward: "You don't suppose I could keep you company, now do you? I mean - birds are nice and all, but they do make for such little conversation. Unless of course you'd prefer little conversation - in which case you really may not want to deal with me; ah, look - I'm going off on the mouth already; forgive the babbling... it has been some time since I have last spoken to anyone, let alone someone interesting enough!" He gave the tiniest shrug of his shoulders, "I guess I'm just not all-too-lucky when it comes to finding fascinating people; but you look like an interesting one..."
A small smile before he backed up again, his expression dotting and gaze unblinking: "You don't suppose that I could sit with-" Eyes widened with uncertainty as his foot fell suddenly on uneven ground, after which he felt himself toppling over. He gave a loud coo of disapproval before his body met with the dirty water of the pond.
Little time passed before he was up, his expression pained whilst he spit water from his mouth. Disgusting. "I - plfft-ploo..." He spat out the last of what he could, "What I mean is - I am... really sorry! I scared all the birds away, and-and-and..."
He frowned.
This was terrific as horrific first meetings went.

(( Sorry it took me so long to reply, Ash~ DX <333 ))
The rat hybrid's striped ears twitched at the sound of the approaching rabbit, though he had just brushed it off as another passing businessman on a cell phone, heading in early for work. That is, until the perky Gwynn had appeared in front of him, trying to strike up a conversation.
Shamir blinked his pale eye, unsure of what exactly the rabbit wanted. Sure, it was made obvious by what Gwynn was saying that he was sorely lacking in any social interaction lately, but... it was just so odd. Nobody had ever just come up to him like this. City-folk are so peculiar, he mused as he watched Gwynn continue on. It wasn't a cold stare, rather one of curiosity. After all, he had said Shamir was interesting. Am I really, now? Though, on second thought, he must've been to be out at this hour without any particular reason.
He flinched as he saw Gwynn slip, but his reactions were too delayed to be of any assistance as the rabbit tumbled into the water. "Ah..." was all that managed to come from his mouth as he sprung to his feet. He stood still, glad that the boy was alright but unsure of what he could do to help now that it had already occurred. Well, if he had come with a towel, maybe, but he hadn't really thought of doing that.
Despite the concern, Shay couldn't help but crack a giggle at the predicament. He wasn't trying to be inconsiderate, but it amused the rat that Gwynn was more concerned over the birds that had gotten spooked. He waved a hand dismissively at not only the water-logged rabbit's concern, but also to his own laugh, "No, it's okay, they're probably used to that. They'll be back. Free food and all." He smiled, figuring he should just go with the flow on this one. He wasn't usually very talkative, but if it helped...
Glancing back down at the bench, he grabbed a coat that he had set the bag of bread on and shook it free. Holding it up, he offered, "Sure you can sit down. Go ahead and use this; I don't have any need for it, and I don't want you catching cold." Been there, and it wasn't a very pleasant place to be.
As for the coat, it was brought just as a precaution, in case the weather turned sour. Well, he was forced to bring it by his landlady, despite explanation that he was used to not wearing one. Made him glad he didn't go with instinct in that case.

He quirked an elegant brow with the offering, ears dropping with what would appear to be discomfort despite the smiling of his emerald eyes. He clawed his way out of the mucky water, lips tugging downward with disgust as he noted how truly unsanitary it was. Gwynn parted priorly shimmering lips - upset that the lip-gloss had long since been washed away, "No, no." It came out a whisper whilst he swatted absentmindedly at his outfit, as though he assumed it might rid him of the filth: "I can't go wearing your coat in this condition - I would dirty it. Look at what a mess I am..." The tiniest gasp, which was irregularly quiet; remarkably similar to the scurrying of a mouse, "My hair." The rabbit whimpered, realization hitting him suddenly. He had spent the majority of his time fixing it up that morning, only to ruin it within the first half hour it had been presentable.
Purse-lipped and narrow-eyed, Gwynn spoke again: "I was so sure this day was going to be the best in ages, too - and look at what I've done to myself; honestly. I'm sorry - I've been a bother." He frowned, "That's what Baasima tells me, anyway." Was he like that?
The rodent took a moment to consider over his next words wisely, "Thank you for offering me your coat; but I'll be alright as I am. It's not too chilly out - so I hope that a cold is unlikely..." He considered momentarily their situation. Not a very good one, thus far. Unbearably embarrassing. But whose fault was that? He welcomed Shamir's friendliness with open arms - it was his own stupidity that was causing a bad turn in the wind.
Speaking of which, the wind was cold.
He wrung out his skirt, cocking his head to the side curiously when the water poured onto the ground beneath him.
"On second thought..." He murmured uncertainly: "I'd love the coat." And he accepted it, though mildly unwilling, before wrapping himself in the fabric. "Thank you." His dumbest grin, "I'm Gwynn, by the way."

(( Because I suck, and take nearly two months on a single reply. DX Really sorry about that, I've been such a slacker lately. ^.^; ))
Shamir heaved a light sigh, tugging at a belt loop on his pants absently as he held the coat in his other hand. Unfortunately, he couldn't quite comprehend exactly why Gwynn was so upset on the matter. Did he hurt himself? No, it didn't seem to be that kind of pain. Either way, the slight smile remained on his face, if only to mask his curiosity on the matter.
He was relatively glad when Gwynn had taken the coat from him. At least there was a use for it, as Shay seemed to be too stubborn to wear it himself. After all, as it was still mid-morning, he was sure the water of the pond hadn't warmed up enough from the night's chill. That, and the sudden gust of wind didn't help matters, either.
But it bothered the rat to hear Gwynn putting himself down on what had just happened. It wasn't the rabbit's fault that the ground was so unstable near the water's edge...
"It's fine, it's fine. You're not a bother at all. It's kinda nice to talk to someone that doesn't constantly get on your nerves, you know?" he smiled. You live with people you don't exactly mesh with for so long, and you're bound to get antsy about getting out. It was the same with Shamir; he'd kept himself cooped up inside for far too long, even a slightly haphazard first meeting was far better than what he would be exposed to at home.
And, honestly, it was probably going the best it could. This little incident was enough to break the silence Shamir was so used to.
Holding a hand out, the rat replied to the introduction with one of his own. "It's nice to meet you, Gwynn. The name's Shamir." He motioned with his other hand to the bench he had been seated at earlier and asked, "You wanna sit down? You must be a little shaken up from that fall you just took." At least the rabbit's foot wasn't injured, as far as he could tell. He wasn't the best at first aid, but at least he could try to help in the areas he knew.
