--Background Story-- "Long ago, there existed a kingdom where a golden power lay hidden. It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains, and peace. But one day, a man of great evil found the golden power and took it for himself. With its strength at his command, he spread darkness across the kingdom. But then, when all hope had died, and the hour of doom seemed at hand... A young boy clothed in green appeared as if from nowhere. Wielding the blade of evil’s bane, he sealed the dark on away and gave the land light. The boy, who traveled through time to save the land, was known as the Hero of Time. The boy’s tale was passed down through generations until it became legend..." This is the Legend of Link, the savior of Hyrule. He once lived among the Hylians, maintaining the peace and harmony of the era. That was years ago. Now, however, he is abroad on a personal quest, and no one knows when he will return. All is not well in Hyrule these days. There are rumors in the shadows, whispering of a new evil force, one that has been biding it's time, waiting for something. The monsters of old are now reappearing across Hyrule. It is no longer safe to travel at night. It is as if the evils of the past are coming back to haunt Hyrule again. Only this time, The Hero of Time cannot stop them.

Malki--Tzdek paced back and forth, debating in his mind whether or not to go through with what he was about to do. He had worked into a steady rythm with his footsteps, and anyone who had entered the Temple of Time would have instantly heard the sound of his boots clunking against the floor. There was no one near Hyrule Temple, however, so he was safe.
After a few minutes more debate, he stopped and looked to his right. There stood the Master Sword, resting in the stone on the ground, waiting for it's master. He, the boy who saved Hyrule from Ganandorf, would not come, though, since he was on his own quest for something more personal. Little did he know the havoc Malki--Tzdek would soon cause on the land he once called Home...
Staring at the gleaming blade, Malki--Tzdek raised his right hand, and pointed it tward the sword. A swirling sphere of darkness erupted from his hand and shot toward the Master Sword, hitting it at the middle of the blade. The blade then started glowing a dark purple, and was lifted out from the stone. Floating in mid-air, it shattered into three separate pieces, each with the same purple tint. They then shot off, each in a different direction, speeding toward their target locations, invisible in the dark of the night. They would rest there until they were buried under the landscape changing over time. The deed was done.
Malki--Tzdek walked away, through the entrance once opened by the Hero of Time, and then vanished in a black puff of smoke.
((Your characters do not know of this event. This just says that it happened. Other people will soon find out.))

Roto stood up from his chair, stretching and yawning. It had been hours since he'd last taken a break from his books. He was deeply engrossed in the history of Lake Hylia. Pushing in his chair, he walked over to the window that looked out onto the center of Castle Town. In the dark of night, the fountain in the middle still splashed as water was recycled to its inner workings. He looked above him as the moon was beginning to be shielded from view as a dark rain cloud set in. A steady drizzle began to pitter patter against his window. Sighing, he sat back down at his table and continued his studies in the candle light.

Sweating, Leif left the room. He had spent a few hours practicing fighting against the countless pots in the first house on the right in Castle Town, and was finally out of energy. He knew that he wouldn't get in trouble for breaking the pots. Luckily, the owner of the house just replaced them when they were broken anyways. It was one of his favorite places to train.
He headed toward the center of town. Seeing a girl sitting on the fountin, he walked over. "You seem bored," he said as he walked up. "If you're bored, why are you sitting there when you could be out for a walk or something? Doesn't look like you're doing much to help yourself..."

Rouge looked at the boy. "I've walked practically all my life. I think sitting classifies as less boring than putting one foot in front of the other." She slid off the fountain, and stood in a messy manner, not proper for a young lady.
