Here's a nice chance to share some non-gaming interests! Sometime in my life, I would like to put together a list of songs (or more precisely two lists) that are just so awesome that we have to recognize them as the greatest songs ever written.

Best Songs: Basically, these songs should be nominated simple because they are genuinely good. More than likely, anyone would agree that such a song was good, regardless of genre preference.

Worst Songs: Songs that should never have been written. These are songs that take someone with decent talent, but waste it on skimpy, meaningless, cliche-ridden lyrics.

To get a song on either list, let's have two people agree that it should be on the list, but if even one person thinks it should be on the OTHER list, then the song should be stricken from all possible nominations.

EDIT: I decided to add a section to condense a few people from dominating the list. If a single songwriter/band is THAT GOOD, we should nominate them for Best Band Ever. Obviously there can't be a "worst" list on here, because any band that is popular must have done SOMETHING good in order for a record company to sign them, or else the pop idols were only signed to sign and dance, providing very little else to the progression of music. I'm going to put The Beatles on this list because they are the one band that everyone has heard of, and I have yet to find anyone that can legitimately find a reason that the Beatles are undeserving of any praise they have recieved.

Nominations
WORST Girlfriend by Avril
BEST Don't Stop Believing by Journey
BEST Supper's Ready by Genesis
WORST Take a Bow by Rihanna
WORST You're Beautiful by James Blunt
WORST How to Save a Life by The Fray
BEST Deliver Us From Evil by Bullet For My Valentine
WORST Party Like a Rock Star by Shop Boyz
BEST In the Cage by Genesis

Best Songs:
Stairway to Heaven
Imagine by John Lennon
Around The World by Daft Punk

Worst Songs:
Fergalicious by Fergie

Best Bands/Musicians/Songwriters Ever
The Beatles

I'll take the first nomination: Don't Stop Believing by Journey

I think that this is a no-brainer. Everyone knows this song, and I have yet to find a single person who dislikes it. You may find a few people who have heard it one too many times, but even then, you have to admit that the instrumental parts are just as inspiring as the lyrics.

This is going to be one long list. burning_eyes

It's going to be extremely difficult to make a list everyone agrees with..

Let's put a youtube video of a song we like as we nominate it. That way we can take an interest in each others' music tastes and perhaps like something different.

I'll start off with the epic 22.54 minute song Supper's Ready The album it is on is considered the climax of Genesis with original lead singer Peter Gabriel. On stage theatrics were a big part of this era's Genesis. This is before they achieved worldwide commercial success with their drummer Phil Collins taking over as lead singer.

This song goes from slow to fast to back again. If you don't want to listen to whole thing choose part 2 to listen to. Enjoy!
Here is the whole song:

Part 2
Part 3

Having difficulty in agreeing on songs is what it's all about. If a song deserves to be on a list of "Best Songs Ever Written", then a lot of people from different backgrounds should be able to agree. Just for the sake of covering bases, I'll add two categories to the original post.

Stairway to Heaven is on list. I totally agree on this one. Maybe it gets some extra credit for being a story, but it is an amazing song.

All right, since nothing else was nominated, I want to post my example of a worst song ever: Take a Bow by Rihanna. Why is this one of the worst songs ever written? Well for one, Rihanna does have a nice voice, but the lyrics in this song are pathetic and over the top. Not to mention the there is absolutely no creativity WHATSOEVER. To top it all off, wasn't the last single she released "Unfaithful" (which was also pretty lame), where SHE was the cheater? In that case, it was a tragic sounding song, but Take a Bow reverses the roles, and now it's poppy and weak sounding.

There we go. Imagine should definitely be on the list of greatest songs ever (just give me some free time away from work to listen to Woman).

I'm going to second the nomination for Fergalicious and put it on the list because very few people can invent worlds and actually make them worth anything. Face it, we'll never have another word or poem like "Jabberwocky". I'm going to disagree with How to save a life, as I like the instrumental part, and the lyrics aren't bad. As for James Blunt, his song is all right when you consider only the instrumental, and it actually sounds appealing the first time you catch part of that chorus, but the problem is that once you hear it three or four times you want to jab something sharp and rusty in your temple. Along with that, the lyrics take stalking to a whole new level. It starts off with a neat idea: you see a pretty girl on a subway train, and it it were laid out simply with "She's Beautiful", it would have served as a great example of providing a lifting boost for someone. The problem is, he goes on as if this is a tragedy, basically being sad that he'll never get in her pants.

I second that.

@Zombicide: We nominate songs for best or worst and through the process stated in the OP, a master list is made.
