His eyes dilated, his ears flicked back, and his legs sprang into a mighty pounce. This leopard was fierce, this leopard was a killer, this leopard....only stood 2 feet off the ground.

Sure, he was only a juvenile. But Kenya liked to think of himself as something more. The leopard he would become. As he pounced on the already dead carcass of a rabbit, he played with it.

"Rarr! I'm gonna rip out your throat rabbit!" He yelled and pounced on it again. "Ha! Take that! Stupid rabbit!"

After nearly ripping apart his meal, he decided that he had killed it enough and plopped down in the grass. Crunching on it's bones, he looked around, alert. Not having anyone to protect him, meant he had to look after himself. And he could do that just fine!

"One... one two... one... one two three two one..." Mkia said out loud, counting her steps slowly but surely as she moved across the grounds. She was getting there. She was nervous. She really had to get over the fact that she was so afraid of being alone.

"Okay... okay..." She recodnized that she and Chukua couldn't be together all the time. Her newly designated 'big brother' had his own life... but she really hated this part of traveling.

Then she heard someone else. Her ears perked up and she grinned almost instantly. It sounded like a kid. That was great! She was a kid too! Well... a teenager, but she had been a kid up until very recently. Who needed adults when there were people to play with?

She snuck towards the voice, and then peered around a tree until she saw him. She grinned when she saw him playing with a dead rabbit, "You know... you can catch real ones, if you know how."

The young leopard's mint green eyes sparked up at the female. Who was she to state the obvious? Grumbling, at first he ignored the female, but then after a few more munches on the carcass he looked back at her.

"I know how, thank you very much." He stated with a hint of rudeness.

Even if he hadn't caught this one rabbit, in fact, he had found it already dead. Sure he didn't have the proper training and technique that an older leopard would have. He didn't have parents or a mentor to teach him.

"I'd like to see you try to get one of these critters." Kenya muttered. "I bet ya can't."

"I can so, thank you very much." Mkia said with a devilish grin, trotting up to the younger lion and looking at the dead rabbit, "And a nicer one than this I bet!" She always had been good at missing the social sign of 'anger'. It wasn't that she knew and ignored it... it was that she was barely even aware it existed.

"We should go looking for a better one. You might get sick if this one is too old." She pointed out, grinning at him, "I like hunting with friends better than hunting alone. Way more fun than doing anything alone!"

Kenya gave the leopardess a look as if she were idiotic. A nicer rabbit? The young leopard didn't see any flaws in his rabbit, it's three day old carcass was just fine and tasty to him. But being the curious sort, he wanted to see what she could do. Perhaps he could learn something from this gal, after all, he wasn't very good at hunting yet.

"If you say so....uh. Your name?" He questioned. Figuring it was would be awkward going around with this girl without knowing her name. "I'd like to see what you can do! But I doubt you can find a better rabbit than this one right here!"

"HA! Is that a challenge?" Mkia grinned, tapping the boy's nose, "The name is Mkia, what's yours? And to find a rabbit, all you need is your nose, because where there's one, there's always more."

She grinned. Her father had always been an excellent hunter, as had her mother, and they had taught her a lot. But as always... the fear of being alone usually made her too squeamish and thus, barely able to hold herself together in order to do the hunting part. But still, she had a friend now!

Or at least... as far as she was concerned, she had a new friend. How he felt had nothing to do with her opinion. And she did so love a friend...

"Yes it is!" The leopard stated gruffly. "Name's Kenya."

Squinting his eyes, he rolled over what he said in his thoughts. Maybe he would learn something from this girl. He didn't really know that much about hunting after all.

"Teach me, I guess..."
He stated, not really wanting to admit he was no good at hunting.

He gripped the dead carcass in his teeth and took one last gulp. At least there would be something in his stomach if she were no good.

Mkia barked a proud laugh, "Excellent! Kenya, you shall be my apprentice!" She seemed entirely pleased by the idea as she knelt down and began to sniff... almost like a dog, but she intended to track the scent of the rabbit back home if she could.

Her father had always said: Where there's one, there's always more.

It took her a little while of searching around, and then she grinned, "Kenya... I think I've found us a trail! Let's go!" She bounced up excitedly, stretching out and making her move... quickly, but not too fast so that the younger boy could keep up.

The mint green juvenile observed the female curiously. To him, she didn't seem like she knew that much, she was just slightly older than he was anyway. After following her around for several minutes, he sighed boredly.

"So...basically. You sniff for five hours hoping you can find something. Great." Kenya said in an annoyed tone.

But as soon as Mkia caught scent of something, his ears perked. Really? She finally found something? Maybe he shouldn't underestimate this girl after all.

"Okaaay. If you can actually find something, you win. I won't underestimate you anymore!" The leopard said with a smirk. He would still be very surprised if she could catch it.

"HA!" Mkia declared, continuing her search, "You don't stop underestimating me until I actually find you something! That is the rule of this game! I won't have won anything until I've actually WON something!" She decided, making up the rules to her game as she went along.

Then she went into stalking mode, moving downwind so that when she did find a rabbit... and she was getting close... it wouldn't have any idea she was coming. Her voice moved to a whisper, "You know the basics about being downwind, right buddy?"

Kenya followed behind her casually, not imitating her movements like he probably should have been doing. Mkia seemed a bit too enthusiastic about hunting, but he couldn't help but chuckle. It was nice to hang out with his own species.

"Downwind? I suppose that means you're not where the wind can blow on you?" He questioned, trying to be as quiet as she was. The young leopard wasn't too sure what it meant, but he tried to make it sound like he did...so he wouldn't seem too stupid. "Are you on a trail?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 10:43 am

"Hum... not quite." Mkia admitted, thinking of a good way to explain, "You know how we can smell things? Well, the wind sometimes carries our smell... and then what we want to eat will know we're coming and be able to run... but if the wind is blowing their smell to us, then we can smell them, and they can't smell us..."

She grinned and nodded, "And yeah... I think I've found something for us to eat." She seemed quite pleased with that particular fact. She was looking forward to what they came up with...

The green leopard listened to her, making sure to note everything she said in his mind. Quite frankly it seemed to take her a while to find something to kill, if it had been him he would have found something 10 minutes ago. What was taking this girl?

"Oh finally?" He asked with sarcasm. "Well let's kill it then."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 09, 2008 7:37 pm

Mkia grinned at him, seeming to find his sarcasm amusing, "Has anyone ever told you you're really annoying? That's okay, it makes you adorable!"

Then she looked up ahead, "They're just over that hill... I just want to decide how I want to do this. You can only go after one, after all, or they'll all run away, and we won't be eating much of anything."

Adorable!? On what planet? Kenya refused to take that as a compliment...or perhaps not. A slight blush couldn't help but rise to his cheeks. His tail flicked and he pretended not to hear her 'adorable' comment.

"Well...it's cool that you think I'm annoying." He stated with a huff. "Guess we'll go after one then. Or will we both go after a different one? That sounds like a better plan."

Whatever the plan would be, Kenya was ready and eager to go. His patience was running thin with the older leopard. The time to go was now!
