Home Life : Catiline comes from an entirely Muggle family, except for her Aunt Isabelle, who Cat gets along with very well. Cat and Aunt Izzy have searched their lineage together, but have been unable to find a single other witch or wizard in their family history. Cat's mother is a Spanish stage actress named Clara (a childish but kind-hearted woman), and her father is a British English professor named Harold. They are an odd combination, but deeply in love and engrossed in each other.
Diving deeper : Cat is a somewhat reclusive girl, but has resolved this year to strike out and build foundations. She is quite ambitious, but recognizes that her lack of roots in the wizarding world puts her at a disadvantage to others in the job market, so she must compensate for it. She's very blunt, and tends to cut things straight to the chase. She's also easily embarrassed, however, and much to her chagrin, she cries when she's angry, a trait she gets from her mother. She works very hard in school and has the grades to show for it. She loves muggle works of literature, probably due to her father's status as a muggle professor, but tries to disassociate herself with other muggle things, and hasn't told anyone at school about her heritage. She's also very curious about the Dark Arts, and has discovered perhaps more than her share -- but also must keep this a secret, as her Aunt Izzy was a Gryffindor, and would be appalled were she to know. She has a lot of difficulty with authority as well, and outwardly, has no respect for her parents since finding out she is a witch. She simply finds it difficult to respect people who, in her words, "lack the power to control even a 14-year-old of our kind." At the same time, there are moments when she feels overwhelming waves of guilt for the way she treats them. She tends to suppress these, however, because she considers them weaknesses of the heart which the mind should overcome. Logic, not emotion, is her god.
Taking a closer look : Cat blinked her eyes, trying very hard not to roll them. Her mother was doing it again. "C'mon sweetie, just tell me. Too much? Not enough? I think they're just perfect. Just tell me what you think, honey."
You don't wanna know, Cat thought irritably, staring at the new wardrobe her mother had laid out in front of her. There were no less than five new dresses there, and her mother was ecstatic about purchasing so many for so little money. Cat felt a teensy bit bad about skipping supper with them again that night, and so she stood and looked them over. "You want my honest opinion?"
Clara nodded excitedly, certain that she had done well with her bargain shopping and awaiting the stamp of approval from her volatile daughter that she so rarely got anymore.
Cat thought for a moment, deciding how best to state her views, before finally smiling a wicked little smile and saying quietly, "Quality over quantity, my dear, whatever were you thinking?" Cat turned and walked out of the room, ignoring her mother's crumpled face.
