((Fort Bradley is for everyone. CO: Lieutenant Brennan))
PostPosted: Thu Sep 22, 2005 3:27 pm

Lieutenant Brennan sat at his desk. He looked over his new recrute roster and sighed. "A bunch of kids... They cant send them into battle... Especially to find the next Halo." Brennan took a sip of Coffee and looked back over his files....

6 months later....

Sergeant O'Connar ran down the halls of the fort, his rifle clutched tightly in his hands. Explosions could be heard outside, and Pelican engines were roaring to life.
O'Connar ran faster. His feet stopming into the red carpet muffled his foot steps. Just then, the wall left of him exploded into a million peices. He was flung back into the wall, rubble piled onto his face. His back ached and he couldnt move his right arm. But, he didnt know what made that explosion and he wasnt about to find out. He sucked up the pain and ran down the hall, still clutching to his rifle.

((This is for Marines only.))

O'Connar made his way to a machine gun nest. He kneeled down to avoid plasma fire. He was breathing hard and his vision was blurred by the sweat from his face. He rose up and began firing at anything he could. A couple shots connected with a Jackal in the face. He didnt know what to do, his training, his lessons, everything usless to him....

He moved from his position. His legs felt like rubber. The recoil from the rifle jammed into his arm and shoulder joint. Plasma fire rained all around him, O;connar couldn't hide it... he was scared.

He managed to duck behind a pile of Sandbags. He rose up and started firing. The pain in his arm increased with every shot he fired. It felt like a bad dream that wouldnt end...

Trying to get to the Pelican 40 feet infront of him, O'connar yelled for them not to leave yet. His legs used the last bit of strength they had for this one chance of survival.

Finally, he made it in. He sat next to another marine and let out a deep sigh. He felt his stomach float for a second as the huge metalic craft made its way into the sky.

The marine next to him looked worse than he did. He was about 5'10 with black hair shorn short, but not as short for regulations. He had a bloody gash on his cheek. His insignia was the same as his, a flag of the UNSC waving prowdly in space. He was also a private like him.

The marine turned to meet Pat's face. He smiled and stuck out his hand. "The name's Janack, Mike Janack." Pat gripped Janack's hand. "Pat O'Connar. Hey, you know where we're headin next?"

"I really dont know. I'm wondering the same thing myself." Janack said and leaned over. O'Connar nodden and sat back in his seat and let out a deep sigh. It felt oddly hard. Almost like it was the first breath he had taken in a year. He looked out the back to see the once prowd city of New York, now in ruin and smoke. The Historia-Waldorph remains became a smoldering pile of slag in seconds as a Plasma turret misfired and hit the battledamaged landmark.

That blast was just the thing to keep Pat awake. He checked his watch for the time, but it was not there. He must have lost it when he stumbled in the mud. Pity, this watch was the only one he ever had that lasted more than one mission.

O'Connar felt his head spin as the Pelican started to land. "I guess this is our stop." One of the marine's in the cabin said. The Pelican finaly came to a halt and all of the marines filed out.

Pat's boots hit the gravel of what once was a playground. He looked out into the distance and saw scattered flames, smoke and specks of blue metiors from the Plasma Turrets.

"Alright people, here's the tha deal. We need to recon with FireTeam Foxtrot at the Empire State building. They are held up on the 3rd floor. Now, we dont have much of a gameplan. Any suggestions from the Peanut Gallery?" The Sergeant barked.

O'Connar raised his hand. The Sergeant looked in his direction. "Ok son, what's your Idea?" Pat let his arm fall and he stepped forward. "Sir, what I'm thinking is that we go the silent approch. We enter on of the outer buildings and climb up to the top level, then, we swing across to the next one untill we make our way to the building."

The Sergeant laughed. "Son, I think you got hit in the head by a brick. We aren't those crafty basterds with the Black Ops. Now, we will go in quietly, but not like monkeys." slight laughter was heard through out the crowd of marines, including Pat himself. "Now, we will do what he said but we'll go through the allyways. we'll start by that one over the." He said and pointed to a small allyway next to an apartment building. "Alright, lets go boys." He said.

The Marines gathered their gear and moved out. All 20 of the Marines bagan to sneak through the Ally quietly. Pat was next to Janack who looked like he had done this a million times. Pat nuged him in the sholder, "You think this is gonna work?" He asked in a whisper. Janack glanced at him and grinned, "It had better, or we're ********."

The team of Marines crossed E. 134th Street and continued to go along N. 34th.

O'Connar stepped through the rubble of a fallen building. His rifle clutched in his hands tightly. He didn't worry about anything, the Covanent were spoted a mile away from him. He treaded lightly among the rubble, trying not to reveal his position to the ghosts that were stalking him.

Once they cleared through the rubble, the team began picking up the pace. He hoped nobody ahead would mutter the words that he dreaded right now. But nobody had to, it came in a huge green explosion about 10 meters to his right. "Contact!!" Someone screamed in the COM.

O'Connar moved with the rest of the team through the street. He could see cars already flipped over for the troops that were there before them.

O'Conner rushed to one of the cars and positioned the BR55 on the hood of the car and started firing at the Covenant that were rushing down N. 34th Street...

A couple of his rounds connected with a Grunt and a Jackal. Pat felt satasfied for his first few kills. A couple of plasma bolts streamed his way, but nothing to worry about.

O'Connar ducked down and reloaded his rifle. He slapped a fresh clip into the socket, when a huge, green blast erupted infront of the car. The force of the blast sent Pat flying 20 feet behind him.

He landed on the pavement on his back. He felt tired and sore. He knew he was still alive, he could feel it.

A muffled voice spoke to him, "Pat, Pat can you hear me?" The voice became clearer. He found Janack helping him up to his feet behind another car. "You ok?" He asked. Pat groaned. "What the ******** was that?" He said, struggaling to stand on his 2 feet. Janack helped him up. "A Hunter Fuel Rod Cannon. It blew you a clear 17 yards."

O'Connar nodded and reached for his pistol. He was ready for action, injured or not.

The Covenant forces continued to parade down the street. There were so many of them, it was amazing how the marines lasted this long. This was a gunfight to go down in the history books, if there ever was any history books left to put it in.

Pat unloaded a clip into a few Tango's and moved for cover. He was pissed and he wanted revenge. He slid behind a car and prepaired to fire his gun, when he glanced over to his right and saw a dead marine, a Sniper Rifle was under him. Pat pushed the dead body asside and grapped the rifle.

O'Connar dashed to the nearest bilding, a 3 story apartment building with a clear view of the street. The doors were blocked off by a couple 2 x 4's. He took the butt of his rifle and slammed it into the door, hard. The door buckled and fell to the dusty floor. Pat started to run up the winding stairs to the roof. He was going to play sniper...

He still felt sore, but it didnt stop him. Pat positioned himself in the cornor of the roof top. The built in bipod positioned the way he liked it. He layed stomach down in position, and pressed his eye up to the Orical scope.

he hit the magnifier to x10 and picked his targets. CRACK! CRACK! CRACK! 3 shots, 3 targets down. He was actually good at this, even though he scored only 17 out of 27 at the training corse in Boot camp.

CRACK! The head of a Jackal turned to smoldering meat. Pat was pleased. He did great under pressure.

Again, the same tremor that hit him before, struck again. He could see a flash of light in the bottom left and corner of his scope. But he could look up, he had a job to do.

The building infront of him began to shake and rumble. Pat felt some of the shock from his position. Then, a sudden crash got his attention. He looked at the building, or, what was a building infront of him, crumble to the ground as 2 Hunters stumbled their way into the feild.

Pat new he had to take them out. He aimed for any orange spot he could find. He found his target in the neck of the beheamoth and hit the trigger. The gunshot went into his ears and made its residance there. The Blue heap of blue fell in a huge thud. The orange blood fountaned out of its armor into the street.

The Other Hunter turned its head to see what shot his bond brother, but found nothing. Pat pulled his gun back from the sight of the Hunter.

Luckally, The gunfire of his commrads got its attention. Pat wanted to make a 'bang' of an impression on his team. He strapped the rifle to his back, and pulled a grenade off his belt.

He made a great leap onto the Hunter and landed on its shoulders. He acted quick and primed the grenade. The Hunter was about to act as he shoved the Grenande in its neck and jumped off the Hunter behind it. It was almost like one of those cheesy action TV shows, where the good guy makes the final strike and its delayed as he does his action pose.

When Pats feet landed ont he ground, he was rewarded with a large explosion and some sticky orange blood on the back of his uniform.

The Hunter fell to the ground, next to his brother. Pat stood ontop of one of the Hunters and unstrapped his Rifle from his back. "Well, back to work." He said, and ran to the cover of the cars.

Thanks to his efforts, The Covenant are now being held up at the intersection of N. 34th. Pat was pleased with his accomplishment. If they broke through the small Marine defence, they would have been free to roam the rest of the city. So the sence of security returned to the team. Atleast they still controled some of New York.

The Marine squad did their job. The street was clear of Covenant for the time being.

They desided to move on and retake the Docks near Manhattan. Once the secure the Mannattan Bridge, They could easily get more reinforcments.

Pat recived a new job, he was the new sniper jockey. He was armed pretty well too. He still had 5 more clips to his sniper rifle and He managed to get an SMG off another Marine. For the time being, he would use that.

He spotted Janack sitting on an apartment Stoop examining his weapon. Pat walked over to him. "My rifle's busted. The damn thing wont load." he said and slammed his palm into the side of the rifle many times. Pat unstrapped the SMG from his side and grabbed the BR55 away from Janack. "Here, use this thing." Pat said and gave the SMG to Janack. He took the SMG and pulled the retractable shoulder rest out. "Thanks." He said.

"Alright ladies! Lets move out! O'Connar, You have point!" Yelled the Sarge. They were on the move again.

At a corner store, Pat stood about 10 yards away from his team. To his left, he didnt know. Thats what he was about to find out. He removed the Scope from his rifle and turned the corner.

He saw a barricade of Shade gun impalcments, sheild walls, and about 20 Jackal's and Grunts. No Elites though. There were 7 Shade's. 2 were placed on rooftops and the rest, scattered around.

He saw all he needed to see and ducked back around. He started to walk back when he heard the low hum of a Ghost, coming around the bend. He ducked with lightning speed so hopefully it woudnt see him. He saw the ugly purple vehical begin to turn around the corner. The Elite driving didnt even see Pat. It wasn't going fast at all either.

Pat took the opportunity and leaped onto the back of the Ghost. Before the Elite could turn his head, Pat planted 2 slugs into the Elite's head. They were scilenced by the skin of the Elite so the rest of the uglies wouldnt hear. It fell off of the Ghost, blood spurting out of the back of its head.

He signaled the rest of his team to him so they could commandeer the Covenant craft and police the body....

Now that the Ghost was taken care of, O'Connar reported what he saw. He tried to stay calm but that Barricade was a bit too... uncomforting. The Sarge understood the situation, and this time listened to Pat. "Ok, what should we do about them?" The Sarge asked.

Pat thought for a minute before he replied. "We should position a Sniper, Me, somewhere, then we could have someone strap some explosives to the Ghost and have it run into the Barricade. In all the confusion, the rest of you guys head in. I'll snipe out the turrets." Pat explained his plan with confidence. He hoped it would work.

"Alright, I like it." The Sarge said and patted O'Connar on the back. "Now go get into position." The Sarge said and waved Pat off. Pat saluted and moved to the apartment building that would be his place of cover.

"OK! I need Frag Grenades and anything else you guys have that could blow up." The Sarge called silently to the team.

Pat could hear his heart in his ears as he staired down an Elite that was manned at a turret. Crack! The Elite fell from his post, a fountion of bluish blood came from his head. Before the other's could look, Crack!Another shot blasted the Elite on the roof. Crack! The last one down. Pat's job was done.

Below Pat, A ghost full of top grade explosives headed at the blocade...
