"Andy??" A soft knock was heard on the wooden door. Small shuffles could be heard as the fox made his way to the door of his 'house'. A soft sliding noise could be heard as he opened the door slowly and peaked his head out. His eyes were half-open, as if he was just napping. The sun was above the small house, no clouds could be seen outside.

"Y-yes, ooyasan...?" He spoke quietly, gently rubbing his left eye. His right hand held its place on the door knob.

"Hey, sleepyhead." His landlady grinned softly as she opened the door even more and let herself in the room, walking over to the opened door leading to the outside veranda while talking. "We are remodeling today... starting now. I need to be here, but I need groceries..." She turned her body around and watched as the fox slowly slid the door closed and walked over to her. He slowly sat down on the wooden veranda, his legs swaying slightly.

He slowly spoke watching two butterflies go by, "You want me to get them for you...?"

* * *

The fox let out a small sigh as he wandered across a dirt path. He had a compass in one hand and a grocery list in another. "I'm screwed..." He softly said as his eyes fell on the compass. It was nice of his ooyasan to try and help him with a compass. But it didn't help the fact that it couldn't really read it. So he knew one arrow pointed north.... but the grocery store wasn't north, was it?

He frowned slightly and went on his way. The path he was on went through the woods near the estate he lived in. All he had to do was follow the path, right?

He put the grocery list in his front pocket, as if he thought he would lose it soon if he didn't. He let out another sigh looking at the compass once again, "What am I going to do....?" His slender eyebrow rose slightly, "I mean... who uses a compass nowadays anyways...?"

Before long he stopped in his tracks and looked around. Trees in all directions, as one would expect in a forest. There was another thing though; it seemed there was no end to it. No matter what direction he faced there where trees; no 'light at the end of the tunnel.' He looked down at his feet, to the trail he was following. It was gone. His eyes widened slightly and a soft whimper escaped his lips. The path had overgrown, there was no hope.

He stood there as crows and other birds seemed to laugh, knowing his situation. His ears flattened against his head. He tightly closed his eyes and crouched down to the forests' floor. His hands pressed up against his head as he looked down as a beetle danced in front of him. He whispered to himself, "...Don't panic... Just walk forward..."

After some moments crouched down, he finally stood straight taking in a deep breath and slowly let it out. He seemed to have small panic attacks more than he would like to admit; he just had to find a way out of it. He began forward as if he was still following the path from before.

(( Not sure if that ending is good or not... seems kinda... eh, to me. 0.o Oh wells... <3!! ))

It was a surprisingly bright day, sun shining in the sky without the hindrance of any clouds despite the rather overcast past week. It was actually a nice change, if one didn't mind how warm the air had gotten.

Either way, Kirinao was just glad to be out and about. The building that the demon had chosen to stay in had grown rather noisy with the coming sunny weather, racket that he just wasn't used to. It ended up giving him a headache in the end, which he decided to remedy with quiet seclusion: outside, in an area where few wandered.

It didn't take him long to lose the pain in his head, and despite its passing, he had decided to stay put. After all, it wasn't every day that the weather was so nice, let alone a day that he wanted to be out in, and the shade the trees created on the surroundings of the forest made it all the more pleasant.

His ears flicked slightly as an almost inaudible sound came from nearby, though Kirinao was unable to decipher from what it originated from. His feet rose to grip the bottom of the branch he was seated on as he leaned forward, knowing the sound wasn't from an inhabitant of the forest. However, he wasn't able to see who had made the sound, the forest floor littered with too many bushes, plants, and trees. His hands latched onto as much of the bark as they could as he had his fingers face behind him, sliding forward and off the branch. Before his body put too much tension on the branch he flared out his orange wings, releasing his hands from their hold and jumping down.

He didn't have to wander too much further, able to follow the sound of the fox-hybrid's voice as he spoke to himself; a rather odd trait to have, though not one Kirinao particularly frowned upon in itself. His tail twitched as he watched the other boy rise from his crouched position, cocking his head in question. "I don't believe the floor is going to answer you," he stated, trying not to startle him any further than was already apparent.

(( XD Well, as it's something I can reply to, it's all gewd~ ))

The fox’s eyes widened slightly as his eyes fell on who was in front of him. Some demon just fell from the sky; he glared at him as he spoke. He stood there, unsure of what to say, or what this demon truly wanted from him. After all, Andrew didn’t have much on him currently. The only thing of value he was holding was the compass; if the demon wanted it that badly he could have it. It wasn’t like Andrew had any use for it.

His glare remained on his face, “I wasn’t talking to the floor… What do you want? I’m busy right now.” He tried to act tough, put strain in his voice as he spoke, but who would take an adorable short fox with purple hair seriously? He gripped the compass with both his hands as if it were a keepsake of high value. It was mostly him showing his nervousness, he never did show emotions with his face.

As Kirinao stood firmly in his stead, arms crossed comfortably across his chest, he ended up faltering slightly. That was definitely not a reaction he was expecting from such a defenseless-looking fox, and although it had caught him by surprise, there was no real visible reaction but for a quirked eyebrow. It was relieving to note that the other hybrid wasn't as helpless as the demon had feared... and not as trusting to boot. To him, that was a good sign, even if it made things a bit more frustrating.

He smirked at the comment, brushing a hand to the air. "If you weren't asking advice from the ground, then who, by chance, were you asking? I highly doubt you knew I was here," he stated, not expecting an answer for his sarcasm. He knew he was just making things harder on the purple-haired fox, so he was willing to let things drop.

He saw Andrew's hands tighten around... something that the fox had been holding, but was unsure of what it could be. Something hand-held, that much was obvious, as well as the fact that he may not have wanted Kirinao to notice. So, instead of pointing it out and asking about it like he was tempted to do, his eyes averted as he pretended not to notice. If Andrew wanted to let him see it, let him do it of his own accord.

Instead, he went on to answer the questions that were slung at him. "I was just in the area, nothing of high importance," he replied with a shrug. "Sounded like you needed some help, so I thought I'd offer it if I assumed right." Kirinao may have been a pain in the butt, but at least he had good intentions.

The glare on the fox’s face softened as the demon went on talking. Why did he have to run into someone like this? Today was a lovely day, despite the fact that he was forced out of the house by his ooyasan. But to have to run into someone so snide like him on a day like today… Maybe the stars aren’t lining up well for me today… He thought to himself, looking slightly off to the side. His grip on the compass loosened as his round orange eyes found their way to the demon’s eyes.

This situation he found himself in made him feel a little nervous. It’s been so long since he has talked with another hybrid; he wasn’t sure what to do. Not to mention this guy was asking too many questions. How nosey and annoying. “It’s none of your business what I was doing.”

Andrew soon felt the nervousness find its way to his stomach. A burning feeling, as if someone poured acid on him. He did need help finding his way to the store; after all he has never been there before so he didn’t even know what it looked like. But he couldn’t trust this demon before him. They just met, not to mention he wasn’t being entirely friendly either. This guy may have been trying to be nice, but Andrew didn’t trust him enough to ask for directions.

The fox glared at the demon once again, “It’s rude to spy on people, if you didn’t know. As I’ve said before, it’s none of your business what I was doing, I don’t need your help.” He spat at the demon and started off. He walked passed the demon, though after Andrew talked and started in the direction he was going before, he didn't look at him; just glared ahead.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 26, 2008 8:45 pm

"Geh," Kirinao snorted at Andrew's reply with another shrug, "Fair enough. You had asked me, so I thought I'd return the favor." It didn't really matter much, as he hadn't really expected an answer, but the fox's defensiveness was making it difficult to really get anywhere with him. Granted, Kirinao knew that he probably would have done somewhat the same in this situation, but it didn't make it any less frustrating.

And Andrew's assumptions didn't make things any easier for the demon either, his eyes flashing. "Hey hey, wait a minute there!" he nearly shouted in aggravation before catching himself. "I never said I was spying on you. Hell, I didn't even know you were in the area until I heard you talking to yourself!" Grumbling, he leaned back against the nearest tree, scowling.

However, even through the anger in the air, Kirinao couldn't help but be thrown off by what the fox had done next. Watching him pass on by, the demon realized that the boy... was lost. Clearing his throat, his voice much calmer now, Kirinao decided to speak up despite Andrew's obvious uninterested demeanor. "Ehh, you sure about that?" he asked, in reply to the last part of the fox's statement. He followed him a few steps before elaborating, "Just where are you headed? The middle of nowhere?" There was nothing but nearly-empty countryside in that direction!

The fox couldn’t help but turn back around to face Kirinao. This demon was making him seem like some nut that talked to himself all the time. Well, sure he did talk to himself, but not in a crazy-person kind of way. He shot the demon another glare, turning back around and walking again. “I’m not a nut…” He grumbled, unsure if the demon heard him or not. It wasn’t like he cared too much.

Kirinao’s questions made the fox hybrid stop in his tracks. Yes, he was most definitely lost no questions asked. So, was he going the wrong way? His heart pounded in his chest and ears. He wasn’t sure exactly what was ahead, nor did he want to make a complete fool of himself in front of someone like this demon. Not like it really mattered what the demon thought of him.

He looked to the ground, his back still facing the demon. A burning sensation rose from his pale skin. Unfortunately the demon would be able to see it even if it was a slight blush. So he wouldn’t turn around to face him. He looked down at the compass, north wasn’t the way to go? He could always lie to the demon, saying it was his intention to go that way. But then he would still be lost as to which way the grocery store was. His ooyasan was patient… but not that patient.

After a long pause the fox finally let out a soft sigh. It was now or never, best to get over the humiliation. “…. I was heading to the grocery store…” His words, this time, weren’t harsh but soft and quiet. Maybe the fox jumped to conclusions too soon, but the demon wasn’t being that nice anyways. Why did he have to figure out I was lost…?

Kirinao watched as the fox continued walking past him, mumbling something about not being a nut. It only managed to knock a smirk out of the demon, finding this comment amusing. No, he didn't think the fox was crazy, but if this guy kept on having to mention it to Kirinao he was sure he'd start to wonder. After all, as the saying went, Who are you trying to convince, me or yourself? Bah, he knew sane people spoke to themselves every once in a while -- even he did, on occasion -- but this was still so amusing...

The demon let his eyes wander away from Andrew as he noticed him halt quickly in his steps. Yep, bullseye, he thought to himself, though it wasn't congratulatory, more of a cringe. It was a tough situation the fox had gotten himself into, Kirinao was unsure how he was going to react to it. He knew he was being enough of a brat to be able to push Andrew away without saying a thing on the matter, but if the fox was desperate enough... well, then he'd have to settle for taking Kirinao up on his offer. Yeah, didn't sound too pleasant to the demon, either.

Before he could say anything, the brief pause of silence beginning to rub him the wrong way, the fox had given him his answer. Kirinao cut a breath short before he said a word, unsure of how to respond. He wasn't expecting him to actually tell him, not after that act he just pulled, especially with a destination so simple. Well, not so simple if you didn't know the way, but still.

"Ahh... huh," he managed to say after a bit, still unsure how to handle this. The fox seemed embarrassed and frustrated enough as it was, there was really no point in ticking him off any more than was already done, lest he want things to start getting ugly. As it was, the boy still might not take the demon up on helping him to the city, but the damage had already been done. He rubbed at the back of his head before sitting upright, leaning away from the tree trunk he had been leaning against. "Yeah, you're headed in the wrong direction. That way is nothing but a trail through the countryside. You'll want to go west to get to the closest convenience store," he replied, giving the fox a way out of this whole mess. If he wanted to, Andrew could take off on his own, but that also depended on whether or not he was feeling sure of his own sense of direction at all, let alone Kirinao's directions. He chewed at the inside of his lip absently; yeah, trust was never something he was able to gain so readily, let alone give it out.

The fox slowly turned his head to the side, getting a side look at the demon. Once he pointed out where the convenience store was he looked west. The blush was still making his pale skin a soft pink color. He nodded and slowly turned around, finally facing the demon.

Andrew looked at the demon for a small moment before he blinked quickly and bowed his head. It was something his ooyasan liked him to do, to make him seem a little more proper. After all, Andrew wasn’t a people person. “…Thank you...” He quietly voiced when his head was facing the ground beneath him. He stood up straight and slowly wandered west, as indicated. His tail swooshed slightly as he walked, feeling a little better now that he was sure he was heading in the right direction.

He looked down at his compass once again and sighed. “What help you were…” He frowned slightly at it. His temptation almost getting the better of him; how much he wanted to throw this worthless metal junk over his shoulder. Though, ooyasan would definitely not appreciate that. “Beh…” He said and quickly looked up ahead of himself.

(( Hmm... just tell me if you can't reply to that. Though I'm sure you can... but just in case, tell me if I need to add anything to it... Like.. more talking to Kiri-kun. -shrugs- Or something... ))
PostPosted: Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:20 pm

(( Naw, 's all gewd. X3 Just might make my own reply a little short, but it's still going somewhere. 8D ))

Kirinao watched as the fox glanced down the road he indicated, noticing the blush across his face. It was nice to know the purple-haired fox wasn't all anger, even if Kirinao had provoked and deserved it... and proceeded to show him the same. So, he was correct in assuming that Andrew was embarrassed over the situation, though that wasn't all that hard to predict -- the demon would have been as well. However, just the fact at how bright it was on his skin made Kirinao realize how pale he was. Was it his natural shade, did he not feel well, or did he just not get out very much?

Two of the three questions could lead to a pretty bad end result, especially considering Andrew had chosen to go it alone.

"Ahh, yeah... you're welcome," he managed, though the bit of gratitude he was shown wasn't something he had expected. Talk about three-sixty... he thought to himself, rubbing his head again in thought. So it was just self-defense after all... looked as though the fox was normally pretty polite, but his demeanor towards Kirinao had been just a front for self-preservation. In other words, anything Andrew had said to him was the demon's own fault. Or maybe the guy just didn't like demons, or people that dropped from the sky... He blinked, watching as Andrew's tail disappeared from view behind a neighboring tree. He was just frustrated... who wouldn't be?

"Mmmmmh," he grumbled, rocking back and forth. He knew very well that there was a good chance the kid wouldn't be able to find the store very easily, even with the directions given. The city had undergone many changes over the decades: buildings being demolished and rebuilt, buildings that underwent bankruptcy before being turned into something completely different, old store's signs still visible... not to mention how they had to either pack all of them into a small area, or build in layers. Anyone not used to it would be completely lost; as a matter of fact, Kirinao wasn't quite sure where anything was in the city, just having moved here himself a few months ago. He only really knew the direction, not the exact location.

He sighed with a little frustration, but went ahead anyway. He walked a few paces quickly, trying to catch up to Andrew to the point where he had him in sight. "Hey! Are you sure you don't need any help? I mean, it's pretty busy in town," he called to the fox. He glanced away momentarily, remembering what he had thought about the fox-hybrid before he had left just a bit ago. Now who's done a complete change of attitude? he thought with a roll of his eyes before turning back to Andrew.

Andrew took in a deep breath, smelling the trees and plants around him. This is what he liked; solitude. As he took in another small breath, he stretched his arms up above his head. It wasn’t that he was getting tired, he was just happy that he didn’t have to deal with that demon anymore… so he thought.

A small curl in his lips slowly formed as he closed his eyes for a moment. He could tell the town was nearby, but he still couldn’t see it. “Hm…” He slowly raised an eyebrow. I hope the grocery store is near this entrance… I would hate to keep ooyasan waiting so long… He didn’t have a watch on him so he wasn’t exactly sure how much time he had wasted already, but it sure seemed like an hour!

His ears perked up. He could hear footsteps quickly finding their way to him. Stopping in his tracks, he then heard the voice of someone familiar, someone he didn’t really want to see again. He turned his body slowly around as the demon started talking to him. He blinked a few times, the demon wanted to help him find the store? Though it didn’t make Andrew feel any better that he ‘needed more help’ on this matter. He looked to the side, glaring slightly. How pathetic, really… He let out a soft sigh, then turned back to the demon.

“Yeah…” He voiced quietly, keeping his eyes from meeting the demons. “I guess…” He slowly brought his hand behind his head, embarrassed. Could this day get any worse? This is ridiculous… He wasn’t sure what else to say to this demon, maybe he could keep conversation to a minimum and this day won’t get worse.

(( Umm... I'm a little sleepy --need meats-- so if that kinda... sounds different or stupid, that's why... xD; ))
PostPosted: Mon Jul 28, 2008 8:57 pm

(( Haha, no problem. ^.^; Sounded fine to me! ))

Kirinao didn't seem to notice Andrew's annoyance to see him just then, but with the way things had been going he didn't really need to to know. The tip of his tail twitched as he watched the fox's reaction to his question, not liking how much he... disliked him right there. Was there really so much about the demon that could be hated with such a brief encounter? Granted, most people took first impressions rather seriously. If that was the case, though, did he even want to try to be nice, just to please him? He scowled; that question didn't even need to be answered, let alone asked. If the fox wasn't going to give him a chance like that, then he shouldn't even try. If he lived by first impressions alone, then the opportunity had long since come and gone.

One crucial fact still remained that held him back, though; he was stubborn, and didn't want to give up so easily. It didn't help that the fox was just as stubborn, either. He shrugged, figuring that once they went their separate ways after today, that would be that. If Andrew still disliked him, then that was how it was going to be. It didn't matter, really, since they probably wouldn't even see each other again after this little escapade. Kind of a depressing thought, seeing as this was the only other hybrid in the area he had spoken to that wasn't already occupying a room where he stayed, and most of those hybrids he wasn't on very good terms with either.

Oh well, time to get a move on; Andrew seemed to be getting rather impatient with all the distractions. "I'm sure you could find your way to the city, it's just that when you get there..." he tried to explain, glancing at the fox as he caught up with him. His mouth tweaked, at a loss of words once he noticed that Andrew was refusing to look at him. Little brat... he growled to himself before averting his gaze to the road ahead. "...The city is cramped. There are people everywhere, hundreds of places to go, and the signs aren't always very helpful. In all honesty, I think you'd be taking hours to find it." Okay, so it was a little blunt, but when he said there were people everywhere, he meant it, especially on such a nice afternoon. It was going to be tricky to find, let alone be able to get to.

There was some excitement in is gut as they began walking toward the city. Andrew had never been to a city before, let alone seen humans. His ooyasan was a hybrid, though a different kind – ooyasan was female. He wasn’t sure what to expect. What would these buildings be like, or the people. Not to mention, were they nice?

His ears fell slightly as the though ran through his head. He had locked himself in his room since ooyasan took him in; never seen other hybrids or people. His head lowered slightly, trying to hide some of this face.

He jolted his head up as the demon began talking about the city. He lifted his head and looked at the demon as he explained, somewhat intrigued. He gently repeating what the demon said and looking ahead once more. “…Hundreds of places…?” He blinked and tilted his head in question. He looked back up to Kirinao, “Have you never been to the store here…?” His voice was soft as he spoke. “You sound like you have…”

He looked back ahead, softly biting his lip in thought. He wanted to ask the demon if the people here were nice. But he figured they were walking thin with the company of each other. Too many questions might drive him away or make him angry again. He really didn’t feel like getting into another argument today.

As Kirinao thought Andrew's gaze was still focused away from the demon, he wasn't expecting a reply of any kind. He jumped slightly, tilting his head back to the fox as he repeated what he had said. Well, whaddaya know? he thought with a slight smirk, though he was unsure what Andrew's motives were by saying that.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the fox's immediate outward embarrassment was all but gone. In fact, he seemed relatively interested in what Kirinao had to say. Okay... that was weird, he mulled as he took a step back, unsure where this was going. He knew it had to do with his own trusting issue that he was skeptical about the fox, but he honestly was expecting him to snap at the demon about... something, really anything. Not that Andrew had shown anything to warrant the thought, nor had Kirinao earned any reason to be yelled at; it's just that he wasn't used to seeing Andrew like that. Granted, he wasn't used to seeing him at all, but his assessments were being thrown through a loop and he found himself unable to predict any possible reactions.

He smiled faintly, partially in reaction to Andrew's interest, and yet also to the predicament. It had been a while since he could just act normally, without the hindrance of having to plan everything out in advance in case the worst possible outcome could arise. He couldn't exactly escape it now, but he could at least put it in the back of his mind in the meantime.

His eyes flashed as he realized what exactly Andrew had been implying in his questions. Glancing at him, he gave a curious look. "Is it really that obvious?" he asked, unaware that he was giving off any sign of his... lack of knowledge.

Standing straight, he turned in the direction they were to go and, after a brief pause, started walking. He motioned for the fox to follow, folding his wings closely to his back to give Andrew enough room to see past him; he wasn't going to lead him blindly. As they strode along, Kirinao answered more assuredly, "You're right, I've never been to the store; I've never set foot in many stores over there at all, in fact. I don't really have any need to use convenience stores like that, since I'm normally only shopping for myself, and only for what I really need. From the look on your face, you're either meeting someone there, or you've been sent there, correct?" He glanced over his shoulder to catch the fox's answer. "So, sorry, but it's kinda the blind leading the blind here. I figured we could find it easier if we both looked. Sound good?" Again, he was assuming too much, and he cringed slightly after the words had left his mouth. He turned to face front once more, wondering if the fox was going to yell at him for that move. Yeah, he didn't know the way, but he played it as if he did, and he knew he was in the wrong for that one. Maybe Andrew had already known that the demon was a little lost in this world as well? But then again, that would just have been another assumption... It was best just to let things come as they did, seeing as Andrew was so difficult to read as it was.

Andrew stopped suddenly as Kirinao jumped. He wasn't sure as to what to think about this one. The demon wasn't ever kind to Andrew, but they seemed to be on rather... 'nice' terms at the moment. 'At the moment' was the thing. Andrew wasn't too sure if he had said something wrong, or maybe he was talking too much? But with the demon taking a step back worried the fox. Maybe his assumption was true, why else would he step back?

He bit his lip absently. For some reason that possibility got to the fox. Why did it matter if Kirinao took off and that was that? ....Other than the reason he would be completely lost otherwise in the city. And because of the delay, ooyasan was sure to be pissed when he came back for taking too long. He thought for a moment, it was possible he just longed for contact with another hybrid, for he never has other than his ooyasan. But it didn't make sense to long for his company... Though he didn't seem too bad... now.

As Kirinao asked his question, he snapped out of his thoughts and stopped biting his lip. "Um..." He began slowly, softly scratching the side of his head with his index finger. "Obvious? ....You seem to know a lot more about it than I do. I don't get out much... so any help will do..." A small blush found its way to the surface of his pale cheeks again. He was suddenly so open, its not as if this Kirinao would care about what he did during the day. Though it was nothing exciting, rather boring actually.

He jumped slightly as Kirinao began walking toward the city again and quickly started after him. He slowed down once he got to Kirinao's side and couldn't help but snicker slightly. He didn't know where it was either? Seems as though the demon longs for another hybrid to talk to as well. He turned his head slowly and looked at Kirinao, slightly bewildered. "You're quite... the observant one, aren't you?" He looked ahead of himself as they walked, falling silent for a moment. "I'm on an errand for my ooyasan." He lowered his head and smiled softly to himself. Even though she was a pain a good majority of the time; he knew she cared. After all, she did give him a place to stay --a rather nice place at that.

He blinked as the demon suggested they go at finding the store blindly. It seems as though his assumption was correct? The demon wanted to have contact with another hybrid as his self. I guess I shouldn't complain too much. He did help me out more than I would like to admit to anyone. He let out a soft sigh and shrugged. "I guess I'm okay with it. It's better than being alone, lost, and afraid." His eyes widened as he said the last part and lowered his head again. He was so open to the demon it didn't make sense. A burning sensation began on his cheeks. Knowing this time it would be so noticeable, he wouldn't raise his head.
