Her cubs were tucked safely into a den, hidden by several bushes. Maluuni was taking no chance while she was gone. She would not stray too far, but she did need to hunt. She had five to feed after all...and she was back to rabbit-hunting, without the bulk of Iar or any of the other demons to help her. Demons...She sighed. A demon had tricked her, and turned two of her cubs like him. She only could run with four of her precious little ones...The red and brown lioness shook herself. Never again. Male lions were nothing but trouble. And so she went back to stalking, deciding food was far more important than the past.

A small, thin cheetah male stood over a small gazelle, old and weak as it was. Blood dripped down into the black-brown eyes of the male from a cut above his eye that the prey-beast had inflicted on him and he smiled maliciously as he pressed his cruel claws into the screaming creature's skin, above its eye, in repayment. He had already broken its legs. "Of course, you won't have long to live with that pain," the cheetah growled in a soft, seductively deep voice. He might have been charming, had he not been such a sadistic son of a b***h.
With a snarl, the scarred Barafu'moyo, self named for the block of ice that rested where a normal beast's heart would be, dipped his head and ripped out the creature's throat.

Screams of pain immediately sent Maluuni to the ground, ears back and fear that Iar had found her overwhelming. When she could not scent the demon-king she crept forward, a little relieved. But she was still afraid. Those were not death-cries. At least...the first set wasn't. Maluuni was a damned good huntress (in her element) if nothing else. She knew a death-cry when she heard one.
The sight that greeted her made her confused. A cheetah stood over the creature that had cried out, looking rather...well, she recognized that spark in his eyes from Iar. But the only other cheetah she'd known had been rather kind...if aloof. She moved to back away...only to run into a rat that had decided that was the best time to skitter around behind her. And it made a rather loud protesting squeak.

Barafu's head jerked around at the sound of a rodent and his eyes caught the brown and red of a lioness crouched low in the grass. His ears flicked back and he stood possessively over his kill. "What do you want?" he asked, his voice dangerously low and yet almost calm, his teeth only slightly bared. The scars that criss-crossed his body were visible proof that he was a survivor. He had killed lions in the past, and if this female wanted a fight, that was what she'd get.
He was not in the mood! Damn lions thinking they owned the grasses. He'd show them. He'd prove that he wasn't weak or scared, not anymore.

Maluuni's old ways flooded back in a panick. "I-I'm sorry! I was just making sure you weren't someone else! I-I'll go elsewhere!" She didn't want a fight...she didn't! She proceeded to back away slowly...She needed to get back to the den! Make sure her cubs were safe!
But she didn't want to lead anyone back there. She didn't want her precious little ones hurt!
"I'm sorry!"

As it usually happened with creatures the cheetah met, the lioness had managed to say the wrong words. His shoulders rose and his eyes narrowed, anger flashing in their dark depths. "Sorry? Sorry?! Liar! You're never sorry, none of you! You say it, but I can see it, I can see the truth!" Barafu snarled at her, stalking away from his kill, forgetting it completely.
"Your sorrys are empty words, flung around to get out of trouble, to get what you want!" Which wasn't entirely true, but apologies and pity were wasted on the icy heart. His steps brought him closer and closer to the fool that dared challenge him, to spit those stupid words at him. Oh, he would make her sorry, he'd be sure of that.
((How far do you want me to go with this, out of curiosity? Like, how hurt should they get?))

((Pretty beat up...Definitely enough to damage her voice.))
Blessed Kimeta...he was like Mwenye. She kept backing up, green eyes wide and afraid. "Please...please, I'm sorry, I really am. I mean it!" Sweet rain, she didn't want to be hurt again!
"I didn't mean to interrupt you, I really didn't!" She stopped listening to her heartbeat...it was going too fast. And was far from calming. How could she get away?!

Barafu stopped and looked at her haughtily, raising his head high. "Oh, so you're really sorry, huh?" he asked and his position changed in a flash to a challenging crouch. "You'll wish you'd never come here when I get through with you."
And then he was unleashed. Like a lightning streak across the sky, he ran at her, claws ready and teeth bared in an insane grin, his ears back and his fur ruffled.

She tried to run now, but she wasn't fast enough. Built for agility she might have been, but cheetahs were built for speed. She cried out as he caught her flank as she turned, red misting her vision as the pain registered in her mind. And Maluuni knew it was too late to turn back. Now, she had to fight back or die.
Growling through the pain, she turned to strike at his flank, teeth bared. There was no 'flight' option now.

Barafu had buried his teeth in her flank, but leaped back when she whirled on him. Blood had already done a number on his white fur from his earlier kill, but now it was a different kind that stained his maw and he laughed madly as he dodged her attack.
"Is that the best you can do, lion?! You'll have to do better than that!" he laughed and zipped around her and slashed his claws into her thigh as he ran past. Playing with them, cutting them bit by bit, that was his favorite part, if he could have a favorite anything. He would make them all as scarred on the outside as he was on the inside, if it took a thousand lifetimes, he would do it.

Maluuni had never gotten used to pain, despite the scars that littered her hide. And this...insane cheetah was causing quite a bit of it. She cried out in pain and anger. She hadn't done anything wrong! She was just a mother trying to feed her cubs!
She had no words right now...only emotion. She roared, hoping that would do something...at least startle the cheetah. She had to keep control...had to live...

Barafu's head jerked around and his eyes blazed in anger. He spun around and ran straight towards her. He'd stop that horrible noise. All he had to do was hit the right spot under her jaw, which would in theory hurt her voice enough to cease her roaring and speaking and only leave enough vocal capacity for screams and other involuntary vocalizations.
Once again, he used his blood-stained claws to slash at her throat.

She hadn't seen it coming. Her roar suddenly became a gasp and then a scream of pain. Maluuni stumbled back, stunned by the strike...and did the only thing her pain-clouded mind could fathom...
She fell on her side and didn't move.

Barafu stood over the fallen lioness, his head held high. His face had completely switched gears when she had fallen. The madness was contained to the darkest corners of his eyes, now, his mouth a calm line and his eyes watching her with a mild curiosity. It was the kind of look a stuck-up royal might give a commoner that had happened to get his attention.
"Are you done?" he asked softly, his deep voice bearing the curiosity in his eyes. "Have you given up the fight to live already? Is there nothing in this world to drive you? You must not fear death then, for I don't believe a creature would lay themself down to their enemy unless they welcomed death. Or are you just weak?"
His shoulders rose and his ears flattened back as his eyes narrowed. "Get up!" he barked the command. He knew he was stronger. He had never stayed down, not since that night when the heavens had opened up and his mother's screams echoed in the rain. And that was why he was alive. "If you want to keep your miserable existence, GET UP!"

She stumbled to stand, though not at this insane cheetah's command. It was for her little ones. Cubs she knew were waiting for her. This cheetah was nothing like Jani had been, the Jani she still had to warn...No. He was like Iar, and Mwenye. Maluuni leered at him with pain-hazed, angry eyes.
'I did nothing wrong.' Her face spoke it plainer than her currently unusable voice could. And it became another hunt. Another struggle to live another day. And if there was one thing she was good at...it was hunting.
There were no great many trees on the savanna, nothing for her to dodge. She could use her own agility here with no worries.
If it would stop hurting so bloody much.
