It had been years since he had seen her. His unexpected children had grown and he was even a grandfather and yet, unlike his parents or his aunt and uncle he had yet to declare any type of fondness for the mother of his children. To be honest he hadn't felt any love for her when their union had occured...merely lust. He had been reckless as a young stallion and he had of course paid the price. However while he was a loving father things had become somewhat more complex than he had first thought. Whether he had cared to admit it or not his aunt had been right - in having children he had provoked an unspoken and unseen bond to wake up.
Now it appeared to raise it's head.
The spirits that had once favoured him and encouraged him to play. Those spirits who had once cheered as he recklessly seduced and enjoyed the company of mares now peered at him expectantly. It was as though every little game they had played had been intended to lead him down this very path. He once again found himself on soil he recognised, with the familiar smell of spring in the air.
The tell tale giggles of young mares and the laughter of young colts lingered in the air, cuasing his ears to flick and yet...they didn't twitch like they once had. Remaining stationary, he permitted the wind to buffet at his curled longs and turned his gaze in the direction of the forest he somewhat recalled.
It had been over the process of a few months that he had begun to see and hear things he would rather have not. With each encounter he had found that he was reminded more and more by what he had left behind and what he had done. Reckless he might have been but he did remember it...what he couldn't remember was that earthy smell. So accustomed to the perfumes sprinkled on the mares by their mothers, he simply couldn't recall that scent she had possessed.
And really it had been the most pleasant of them all.
"Oi, Yei why did you have to do this to me," he murmured softly, his ears flicking back against his head as he begant to make his way across the long grasses. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder, you said...if you had not opened your mouth -"
He paused and shook his head, who was he kidding?
He'd played the game and he had won his fair share of hands but now he craved nothing more than to rediscover that lost sense of familiarity. What he found difficult was the method in which to rediscover it - he had pretty much abandonned her after all. How many mares welcomed back such an uncouth stallion with open arms?
Not many.
He certainly wouldn't...

Lovey Dovey stood on the top of a hill and just breathed deeply. Life had grown around her and she had stayed the same. Perhaps a true fossil in times where only the new and exotic held anyone’s attention for any length of time. All of her children had gone off and done something with their lives. She was a grandmother again by ‘Naci and too many “greats’ to count because of Flossy’s babies and their babies and.. Oh lord. She was older than dirt. The morbid thoughts weighed the elderly mare down. She was elderly, but not close to kicking the bucket. Perhaps she ought to just keep that more on the mind and less about the kiddies?
Hard thing too do, easier said than done.
She continued to think over her situation and little things nagged at her. What exactly happened that had made Lovey give up going out and having fun? When was the last time she had done something totally out of the blue and had enjoyed it entirely? She was expected to be home to take care of the rather extensive herd.. So maybe she ought to go wild and do the exact opposite of taking care of the family and everything they need. At least for a week?
The romantic side of Love took over then and she let herself imagine just up and taking off without a care in the world. She wouldn’t tell anybody where she was going and once she got there she’d just stay there til she felt like going back. If she ever did. Oh, that would be the life indeed. Wildly frivolous and totally without control.
And Lovey would hate every moment of it.
But it didn’t hurt to at least have dreams?
Oi, what was the point….
In anything really?
Taking off from her perch at a rambling canter, Lovey’s green eyes held a slightly tear-blurred edge to them. She was losing herself in her family and didn’t’ really have the strength to try to pull herself out of what was becoming a giant octopus with too many arms and even more suction cups. As she got to the bottom of the hill, Lovey let herself think some more. A couple of stray tears rebelled and slipped down her face but that was all she allowed.
She now remembered the last time she had done something entirely out of the blue, entirely without reason or thought. It was when she had been with him… their children were the result of that. “Oh dear.. When I go all out I appear to put out..”
A girlish giggle escaped the purple mouth and the mare turned to slowly head back toward home, she had been lost for a short while. She was still unsettled… but at least on the way home she would have something to think of. A time when she hadn’t felt lost at all, instead she had just been herself.

Eh, it seemed that with the birth of new generations...wave after wave of 'old' soquili began to lose themselves. Swamped and drowned beneath the almost opressive number of individuals that had entered their families. Fortunately for Biscuit life hadn't been quite so cruel for him - after all, the Islagiatt Herd were made up primarily of Soquili instilled with wanderlust...hell even Honeycomb had wandered off to see the lands that lay beyond the slopes!
It should have been no surprise that Biscuit hadn't lost himself due tothis then. His family lived peacefully, permitted freedom and often reunited in the most unlikely of fashions. One might get another out of trouble, one might fall on top of one another...or one might simply encounter a family member's mate and declare that the world was tiny. Given the range of Biscuit's exploration he hadn't really encountered anyone.
Admittedly, he'd been chased away by a few angry stallions though.
Fun times.
Nevertheless, as he continued to wade through the long grasses he caught sight of something faintly familiar. Almost hauntingly familiar given that lilac and pink hair - even the way it hung upon the soquili's head was... Well holy mother of all soquili, it really was a small world. He had been fairly relaxed until this point, but now he had caught sight of her he felt considerably unsettled. He even had butterflies in his stomach!
"Bugger," he declared, her back turned to him and the distance rather large between the pair. Given the length of the grasses he wouldn't be able to clear the gap swiftly, he would have to go the long way round. Ah now that was a long run, but hopefully he would be able to cut her off eventually...once the grasses thinned out and the slopes became his again.
"Damnit." He added, darting off to his right towards the forests. His gait was more of a 'bounce' than anything, hardly the appearance of a well mannered rake.
