Konami Shojou Hmm, maybe we could ALL pitch in for a prize pool for a whole Quest for the Shiney art contest! I wouldn't mind ponying up for the whole thing, but I'm leaning toward commissioning instead of running a contest. I think we'd get better art for less gold than would be necessary in order to give us good chances of luring in the really good artists to a contest. I admit I'm biased against art contests because I'm so despicably picky about artwork. ^^; If whoever wants to participate likes the idea of lots of art regardless of quality I can go either way though. So...who wants to go get "The Quest for the Shiny" RP character art? :3 Meriko's Notes (username = OP of R&C thread): Possibilities__________________________________ Janinchen clean cute, only willing to do 4 charas waist up at the most for 1mil+, need to pre-approve charas thai-artists first two artists single male chara only, 100-350k minimum, prolly need to bribe to get exactly what I want Eijirou first two artists, Painterly sketch styles, first bright and masculine, second more cutesy Pass_______________________________________ Antiku Cafe Bai Hikari Tsubasa Barrol O monkeys xBroken Porcelainx Cheila-chan ChibbitChiisai-N-Kawaii x____ C 0 L U M B ii A Creamy Milk x- Cupcake Bear -x Deuxia Devonair duchess vermouth EternityRealm Eucalyptus_Koala Evil Summoner Forsaken Moonlit Night [GiG] Happy 2b Hardcore Hypotermia Im_Bandit inaniloquent iPaNdA b3aR Japanese wasabi Kaida Ryalin KaoruKittie Kenni Shae Lady Lucifel Lance O_o Olympia Castilia O o k i - t a n QuisikPsychoSako Rae the Ninja !2iceRoxci Roxi-chan Steffaluffakiss sweet-jap-girl TheArtists PO Mule Tropical Fruitsation Ultraviolet the Artist Yuna-Tulin Old artist wishlist notes: Anlina, clarion, _Eneaa_, Hakubaikou, Keiiii, Luc_iole, Nyome, !2ice

Some of the really great artists participate only in high end art contests. And it's not like you'll have to pay for the less than stellar art entries. With a decent enough prize, I think you'll get a lot more bang for your buck. surprised
But, I'd be willing to hunt down commissioners too. ^^ We could do an art request thread instead and we'd be able to pick and choose which artist we'd like to hire.

I want art too. 3nodding I'd also like to confess that among all the wonderful artists out there on Gaia I would include the three posters above, and I would love some art of Sentelle by them as well. <3

You know what would be cute? XD A lineup. Everyone facing forward in a big line, to show off their relative heights and costumes. Separate pics could be made for details, like Letalus' neck mark, close-ups of weapons or clothing details, etc.

All that sounds exciting. ^_^ I'm not a rich Gaian but I'd get gold to buy some of that.
*loves the lineup idea*
I'd also like to draw myself but that'd be a little odd in a contest where I'm buying the art. ^_^"

Art Contests have seemed to hit a slum unless the prize is demon horns or higher. neutral But I'm going to spoil myself with RL customs once I get a job of my OCs. *pets all four of them*

It all depends on whether everyone is fine with the idea of shelling out a lot of gold in exchange for a lot of low quality art and maybe two or three good pieces. The commish option is potentially just as expensive and will only return a small quantity of art, but the quality is guaranteed. Either way, I have the wherewithal to fund art for everyone. I just want to make sure that whichever option I go with, the group is happy with what I can afford. ^^ I'm for the commish idea and Konami can go either way, seems like. Anyone have any really strong feelings about either option? Oh, and Jen I will happily sketch Sentelle if you like. :3 We need reference art before we begin asking for art anyway. *hee* Would something like this work for the lineup? I was thinking of a FFIX artbook that I have, where they show all the main characters in a similar form so you can tell their relative heights. http://www.merikitten.net/gaia/shiny/lineup_sample.jpg

Commissioning sounds good to me. 3nodding How do you feel about an art request thread? In addition to us hunting down artists, they can come to us.
The lineup looks great. O~O Might do well for mass and body-type as well...I imagine Letalus being a bit stockier than I originally intended him to be...not Arnold buff, mind you, but obviously physically strong.

*weeps* Never PhotoShop while sleepy. I accidentally saved out the jpg but then sized down the original psd file.
I managed to fiddle up a new psd out of the stupid-huge jpg that I neglected to size down, but the bases are now a flat layer instead of just lines on a transparent layer. It's still work-with-able but it'll make coloring the skin/eyes/lips a little harder.
[edit] Oh wait...if I just make the lineart layer a multiply layer and put the colors underneath, that ought to work out just fine. Yay!
I've started on Merro. <3 Gave her a breast reduction and changed her eyes/mouth. *heh*
I love the art request thread idea. :3 Maybe we can put the lineup and basic information in the first post along with my fund info for the group picture and then we can each have our own posts below to showcase each individual character one by one, and put our fund/request information in there.

A lineup... I'm not sure I like the idea as a comission, but I think it's probably a good idea for info for the comissions.
I'm actually not much of an art collector on Gaia, so I'm not really sure what would be better. I mean so far as comissions and contests go. So no, no strong feelings on my part.
*squeals* That just made my night! <3 So what would you need for the sketch then?
*Ish willing to make the request thread all pretty... provided I have the time* Do we want a mule for the request thread so that everyone can edit in their own character info?
Also, looking over you list I was going to post that !2ice is an artist I like (so far as style goes) but his prices are too steep for me. bluefeathers_onDA is another thread that I have bookmarked. I also love Firn the Panda's art. Her shop is presently closed. I know she got tired of doing ava art all the time (and now she's got her knuffels to keep up), but I might be able to talk her into taking a comission if the price is right. She doesn't like to draw males though. She's the one that drew Brindy for me. 4laugh

I've been thinking of finding one artist to draw all of us, but a better idea is for me to simply give you all some fundage and then let you pick your own ideal artist.
AH-DUR. @_@
I think we can just build the thread in the Test Forum, and as soon as we're all set up I can move it to R&C. ^^ Posting in someone else's set-up thread is a ToS violation in the Test Forum so hopefully we'd be safe from outside spam.
Should I give everyone the same amount, or should we list our dream artist's usual price and split the fund out according to need?
*spews milk as she checks out bluefeathers' prices* For that amount of gold I want art from Tetsuya Nomura himself. Ah, Firn the Panda's art is lovely and soft~
For Sentelle, I need...
Hair: color, style, cut, length of sections, part style/location Eyes: color, shape, size Lips: color, shape, size Body: overall type, cup size, height, weight Clothing, armor, weapon
I need details, like if a sleeve is embroidered, where? On the hem only? If so, is it an inch wide or is it a varying width pattern? If the latter, what pattern? Flowers? Daisies or roses?
Sword? What style? How long? How is the crossguard shaped? How wide is it? Is the hilt wrapped or plain? If wrapped in leather, is it herringbone or spiral? Pommel? Pommelstone? Blood groove?
The more detail you give me, the better chance I have of actually drawing Sentelle instead of Queen Emeralda or Eilande. XD
Do you want me to sketch her or work her into the lineup?
...does everyone want to draw their own lineup character or should I take a stab at it? @_@

I don't think a mule is necessary if we all have our own individual character posts. Someone will have to be in charge of the other posts, I.E. waiting lists, funds, showcased art, ect. If no one else wants to make the thread, I will, but I'd love to see what graphics you'd made, Jen. O~O
I DO plan on drawing Letalus and other characters at some point, but I wouldn't mind more Meri art, either. ninja

*ponder* We can probably set up all of the group art info in one post, sort of like we'll have our own individual posts...
.........okay, do we even need the group art? XD We can just commish our own art, whatever we want whether it's just our own character or a scene picture where two commishers buy a pic together. That sounds much more attractive and a better use of the gold. That way I can give everyone more gold to get started instead of holding back a million for the group pic that not everyone might like or want.
Maybe we should make a mule...
1st post - (Mule) Intro 2nd post - (Konami) Letalus 3rd post - (Meriko) Merro 4th post - (Mule) Showcase
Our individual posts can contain reference pictures, fund information, details on what art we're currently looking for and things like that. If I see that Konami's looking for a pic of Letalus and Merro at a ball, I can skip that one myself and try to commission someone to draw bloodstained Letalus and bloodsoaked Merro cuddling. *heh*
The Showcase can be where we put up all of the pictures we have, with our current favorites displayed at a decent size (linked to larger if available) and everything else as thumbnails. We can edit the post whenever any of us gets new art.
How does that sound?

Sounds good to me, though I think the non-favorite art we should just link to to save on image spam. The stuff we really, really like, we can display all big and older faves can have small thumbnails. How about that? surprised
