I like the smell of old books, but I have sissy eyes and dust irritates them to the point where I can't read a really old book for a long period of time.

Ah, the smells of books. How true it is to be overjoyed by the spicy smell of an old book, the crack of the leather binding and the smell of print. I own a few very old books and love the smell when I open it, and the smell of a used bookstore is quite refreshing.

I like new books myself, so I don't get to smell the old book smell very often. But I do like it. mrgreen (when I bought Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, it had a strange smell to it. It's from Walmart, so I can't really trust it...)

I don't have any old books, so I wouldn't know what they smell like, but I love the new book smell.

I'd like to go into a used book store to browse, but sadly there are none around here and I can't think of any within reasonable driving distance. *sighs* Although there used to be one in the next town over, but I don't think it's in business anymore. I went there once while attending the community college. Hundreds of paperbacks whose pages had yellowed with age.
Has anyone run across those used book stands sometimes set up in the middle of shopping malls? I bought an old copy of Clive Barker's Weaveworld at one and fell in love with the man's writings. It has an interesting looking cover. Older releases of books sometimes have the spiffiest covers. My old copy of Pet Sematary showed Church snarling amidst the graveyard, but when I was forced to buy a new one to replace it the updated releases of Stephen King novels all had silhouette styled covers. I know you shouldn't judge books by their covers, but sometimes it's interesting to look at what covers these books are given.

my family on my mom's side has been readers al long way back so we've got alot of old books that have been passed down, (like the starwars books) So they are pretty fragile and worn, thus alot of books have been repaired, a few don't even have covers.
