-Language Studies-
Required for: School of S&T, School of Magic Class Description Rather than learning the languages themselves, students will learn about the different languages and how they influenced one another. It is believed doing so will lead to quicker comprehension of foreign speech and, perhaps, a rudimentary method of communication. Classroom Description A square room decorated with flags of various countries and posters in different languages. Computers are assigned in rows along tables. Posted near the entrance are various extra credit projects based on the decorations in the room. Another day, another dollar... or so in this case more study time. Over the course of a week Nash had brought it upon himself to push forward in his studies. Spending plenty of time in the library and books store reading up on anything he didn't understand. He had made it a point to purchase himself a personal notebook to jot down any notes he picked up from students or instructors and with that notebook he wanted to be certain he had a pocket dictionary.
Being deprived of such freedoms back home he didn't think it a good idea to miss out the many possibilities spread out before him. And so, he found himself in the Language Studies class, deciding he'd work on the study of different languages and how the co-exist with one another.
Currently he sat before a computer chewing on the back of his pen while reading over some information. Spread out haphazardly before him were various notes he'd taken in class but like usual they didn't make much sense to him now. He would return to his room to go over them more in detail, having already started his personal library of books. He smiled to himself at that but quickly shook out of it as he looked around to see if he'd been caught daydreaming. Quickly he ducked his head low returning to his studies.

It wasn't that Micajah didn't enjoy going to his LS classes or that he was avoiding them on purpose, and it wasn't like he had anything better to do anyway that learn more about the way the people of the planet spoke, but for some reason or another he hadn't been making his way to this classroom nearly as often as he should have.
As the door swung open he expected to see a few heads pop up and look in his general direction but when nothing happened, save for someone somewhere saying 'close the door', he let out a small sigh of something akin to to relief as he quickly and quietly made his way to the nearest seat that was open knowing it was probably his assigned one and was open because of his lack of presence.
". . . ."
He sat himself down without much grace or ado and pulled out his notebook for the class along with the different pens he liked to code the languages and notes in, and with a click of the dark blue to get things started he looked back down...and remembered that he'd forgotten one of his textbooks. Brilliant.
"Now what?"
Micajah's words like a mild hiss, and he sighed again, unaware that he may have been disturbing the people next to him.

Nash was content to continue his studies as he continued his nibbling of the pen along with scribbling notes here and there on his notepad. He barely noticed the door opening and didn't bother looking to see who it was. He didn't know anyone in the class; so it was a waste of time.
Still when someone pulled up a chair next to him in the empty seat he had to afford a glance in their general direction. With a polite nod he returned to his work though ever so often glance once more in the other student's direction.
Even as he worked to get himself situated he noticed the other student didn't have his LS book. That would make things a bit difficult here. With a shrug of his shoulders he handed his book to the student still looking at the computer and the various notes he had written. "Take it. I've got enough notes for today's lesson."

When a voice came from his left shoulder Micajah nearly jumped, thinking it might have been a teacher, but when he turned and spotted the bright orange hair and a friendly-looking staring at the screen before him he felt a little calmed.
He'd seen this boy before, perhaps even only once, but Micajah never forgot a face despite how brief the encounter. His mind raced a bit as he said his thanks and took the book without much hesitation, and as he moved to open it a light finally came on in his head.
"Oh! I've seen you before - the fire, right? You followed me and Weiyuan to the control room."
Micajah's voice wasn't loud but it help enough energy to perhaps tear even Nash away from his studies, and the grin he was wearing on his face was certainly one of a child who felt they'd accomplished something.

Nash blinked looking up at the other student for a moment in completely shock. In fact, it wasn't shock he just didn't have an expression worth while for the other students outburst. "I uh..." he opened his mouth then closed it imitating a fish as he tried to get his brain matter working.
Then it finally clicked. "Oh..oooooh! Y-yes that was me." He finally chimed in a bit nervously. Ducking low he looked around making certain he didn't disturb any other students before bringing his voice down to an appropriate level. "I wasn't very much help but that was me. I didn't recognize you from all the smoke and stuff that was happening." He breathed as he nibbled on the back of his pen. "Uh... do you know if the other... um... Weiyuan you say? Did he get his hand checked? Is he okay?" Nash inquired, taking concern of others. Though it was a while since the fire and it was possible the injuries were merely scars. He glanced at his notes with a pout. "You seem to be doing good as well. I'm glad for that."

"Weiyuan? No, I haven't seen him since the night of the fire. I don't leave my room much, I hate to admit, and this is almost my first time back in the classroom in a long time."
Micajah rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly as he flipped the book open in front of himself, turning the pages until he came across the section he recalled he was last on. From the looks of it, the words on the page were about Spanish - a language he spoke quite well thanks to many a nanny.
"But you know I was glad you were there with us when we went into that building, even if you think you didn't do anything. We were far safer with three instead of two, what with me running off in the end there. I'm sure Weiyuan at least was relieved to have someone that stayed the whole time instead of flaking out like I did at the last minute."
Of course he couldn't mention his real reasons for running off there, at least not right now, so he moved on.
"Oh, my name's Micajah by the way. Micajah Ackart. I don't believe I ever caught yours that night."

Nash perked up after Micajah introduced himself. With a broad smile of his own he reached up to scratch the back of his head letting his other hand come out for a shake. "Ah.. nice to meet you... official rather. I'm Seibehn L.J. Nash.. just call me Nash though everyone does." He offered cheerfully.
Leaning forward in his seat he looked to his left then his right as if about to tell a great secret though he just wanted to be certain no one else heard him. "Um... so uh... do you know that one guy during the fire. The one that broke through the door? Are there lots of students like him around here?" He asked. Maybe he was naive but he wasn't sure what to expect.

Guy through the door? What as Nash talking...oh. That door.
"Are you talking about Professor More? I'm not sure but I think he's a special case for the school. There may be others here like him but I don't know of any right from the top of my head. I'm only good with remembering names, not names and faces together."
That was true, and he only knew to address More as 'Professor More' thanks to some idle chatter he'd overheard on the way here. He had no idea what More looked like as his memories of the faces of that night were a little blurry mixed with flames, not to mention headaches and aspirin, so for now he was going on the idea that everyone looked like him until he could properly identify them. It worked in its own way.
"But...hey, what language are you working on now?"
He was quick to change the subject when it hit on something he wasn't entirely sure of, and for now knowing about the rest of the students in the school was a topic slightly tender. Of course he'd set out to remedy this shortly, but for now...
"I'm mostly sticking with the Spanish language, as I find it pretty easy to follow."

Thankfully Nash was easily distracted so went to the topic at hand which was languages. He looked at his notes then back to Micajah with a sheepish grin. "Um... Russian?" He muttered shyly ducking low as was his habit. "There's a student who is having trouble translating English so I thought if I studied his language more maybe I could help him next time we meet." Why was he always worrying about others? He didn't know but it was a natural embed thing for him.
Leaning over the desk he noted the Spanish and smiled. "I had a teacher back home who taught me Spanish. I'm not fluent but I can pick up on a few phrases." He smiled proudly at this. "You must be good at it if you think it's easy. I know it took me a while to pick up on the few phrases I know. Maybe you could help me on it more?"

"Ah, Russian? That's a good language, I was thinking of doing that one instead after I finish what is needed for the Spanish portion. It beats moving straight into Mandarin Chinese like I thought I would; just thinking about using pinyin to write makes my head hurt."
He was rambling on, but that was okay. He knew he didn't really have to learn Chinese, since this was mostly about how the languages influenced one another, but it was certainly more fun learning to read and write in the languages you were studying about...plus it gave you an edge on any application you filled out for an interview.
"As for my being able to speak Spanish it comes from my different nannies. Most of them didn't speak English very well so I learned Spanish from them in order for us to communicate better. Also I would play with their children or grandchildren when they would bring them over, so I picked the language up very quickly."
Micajah smiled brightly at the memories of quickly learning what 'cuidado' and 'peligroso' meant and the trips to the hospital that came with them, and he turned his smile towards Nash when he realized the other had perhaps asked for his help. Micajah liked helping others, yes indeed.
"Sure, I don't mind at all. Just let me know when and where each time you want to get together to study and I'll make it there."

Nash squealed with delight extracting a few grumbles from other students at his disturbing their studies. Ducking low he continued to smile an embarrassed blush marring his freckled cheeks. "Ah..hehe. Yes I'd like that a lot. It should be fun, I haven't had anyone to teach me much Spanish lately so forgive me if I'm a bit slow." He offered sitting up now as he gazed over his notes.
For a moment he looked trapped in though, his brows furrowing together. Nibbling on the back of his pen he grumbled something under his breath but then a smile broke out as he quickly jotted down some information. Looking to Micajah again his attention was full force. "Ohh... um... I wanted to try a little game with you, it might be interesting" He offered looking for Micajah's approval before continuing on.

Did this kid just...squeal?
Micajah had to raise both of his eyebrows in honest surprise at Nash's little exclamation, and smiled brightly in mirror to his movements at the outburst. It was cute, childish, and perfect in his opinion for someone like Nash.
"I don't mind playing a game with you so long as we don't get too loud. I always like to try new things on a daily basis, helps keep my mind sharp and teaches me about different people."
He looked back and forth at the other students in class, as few as there may be, and he decided it would be in his best interest to play this game. No one else seemed to be interested in their activities too much and there wasn't a teacher to stop and scold them, so why not?
"Let's hear about it."

Nash was excited to say the least as he shuffled in his bag for a book. Pulling it out there was the word "numerology" written in childish hand writing on the face of the book. Opening to an empty page he began scribbling on the page while explaining his actions.
"First you need to find your life number in order to do that you have to add up all the numbers of your birth date. Mine are July 4, 2008. So it would be written 0+7+0+4+2+0+0+8= (21) 2+1 = 3. My life number is three. Now take a look at this list I have."
Turning the page he showed a list of numbers with some writing next to them.
1. Individual. Aggressor. Yang. 2. Balance. Union. Receptive. Yin. 3. Communication, interaction, knowledge. Neutral. 4. Creation. 5. Action. Restlessness. 6. Reaction/flux. Responsibility. 7. Thought/consciousness. 8. Power/sacrifice. 9. Completion. 10. Rebirth.
Looking at the page he pointed to the digit 3 "Apparently my life number is communication and knowledge. Can't argue with that I do want to learn as much as possible and I'm a bit chatty." He giggled trying to keep things down so as not to disturb other students. "So lets find out what your life number is. What is your birth date? Add it all up and lets see."

Micajah watched and listened as Nash explained the rules and wrote things down, his head nodding with childish eagerness as he did his best to remember what exactly he should do to follow. It seemed simple enough.
"My birthday is March 20, 2007, since I just turned fifteen this year, so let me see if i can figure this out. You said you add the numbers together, so I would be written as 0+3+2+0+2+0+0+7, which in turn is..."
It was a bit embarrassing to have to do this but Micajah stopped counting for a moment and moved to touch the tips of his fingers, a childish counting method, and his mouth moved in sync as he topped each one with a tap.
"14. They all equal fourteen, which is one plus four, so five?"
He hoped he was doing this correctly and scanned down the paper listed with numbers and traits until he fell on the number five...and chuckled slightly. Action? Restlessness?
"I'm not sure it has me down right, since I'm not into action and I'm hardly restless. I'm the type of person who tends to prefer staying alone in their room for hours on end doing nothing, but maybe it could mean restless as in 'idle hands'? I don't really like sitting around with my hands not doing anything, as my definition of 'doing nothing' usually involves me working a project."
Micajah was making himself into a hypocrite one word at a time, but it was more or less like he was trying to force himself to believe in this little numerology game, since it didn't seem logical. It seemed funny for him to be dwelling on logic anyway, since he was here for magic and everyone knew magic wasn't really real, but...
"That was pretty interesting, where you'd learn about Numerology? It doesn't seem like something you'd pick up just randomly one day."

"Hm?" Nash watched as Micajah went over the instructions he gave. At his final calculations he watched the other pick apart possible reasons why the discription given didn't suit him. Nash wasn't the type to argue the matter, it was more a game of chance in his opinion but he liked to see what would come of most people he met when presenting his love of numerology to them.
Shrugging he sat back in his chair smiling softly. "I don't know you sure take action when it comes to breaking things down. We've only just met but you were the one to strike up a conversation first. For whatever reason you forgot your book to study today's lesson. Something must have distracted you enough to forget... that could be considered a restless action. And restlessness can be defined in many different ways. You say you like working on projects so maybe you get restless when other obligations keep you away from your projects." He shrugged again trying to figure the other boy out. He didn't have all the answers nor did he claim to know but he wanted to at least try. Even if he were wrong or right it didn't matter, it was just fun to talk and get to know new people.
"But I think its still fun to try." He breathed leaning forward to rest his cheek in his arms. Looking up to Micajah he smiled softly. "My papa was into all kinds of strange things before he left. He introduced me to the likes of numerology so it wasn't something I picked up randomly. I don't know the whole idea behind it, that was just basic knowledge he passed to me. I'm still learning." He smiled politely as he gathered his book.
