Donnie lounged by the lake, staring up at the sky, and watching the clouds go by. It was a nice afternoon, and it felt very peaceful. Donnie hadn't felt that way in awhile. It was inspirational. He was seeing shapes in the clouds, somewhat normal shapes, and for once, he had an idea for a poem that wasn't based on hallucinations or visions. He did fear that his hallucinations would come back to him, but he hoped it wouldn't be for awhile. He'd been doing pretty good so far, trying to be normal. He knew it was probably all in vain though. He sighed and rolled over onto his stomach, and then grabbed a twig from the ground and began scribbling letters in the dirt. He wished that he had some paper, but the dirt would have to do for now.

Rubae trotted through the forest, a new book clasped in one paw. She was trying to find a nice spot to sit down and read it in, and she'd remembered a nice lake that seemed like a good place. As she neared the area, she spotted another Namir by its banks. She paused a moment, wondering if she'd be interrupting anything if she approached. Should she find another spot? But on second thought, it couldn't hurt to ask if he minded her reading here. With a small nod to herself, she slowly walked toward the other Namir.

As she she got closer, she noticed that he seemed to be scratching something in the dirt. Was he drawing? No, writing. She couldn't make out what it said from here, though. She cocked her head, curious. After a moment of watching him she quiety said, "Um, hello."

Donnie had been so engrossed in what he was writing, that he hadn't noticed anyone approach him, however it didn't seem to startle him in the slightest. He stopped writing and looked up at the female. He tilted his head to the side and smiled at her.
"Hello."

She suddenly wondered if she should have bothered the otehr Namir, since it might have broken is focus or something. But he didn't seem to mind, so she continued talking to him. "Uh, I noticed you're writing something, and I was curious what it might be," she said. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, of course," she added.

Donnie chuckled and smiled at her.
"Nah, I don't mind. You can read it. I actually just finished it."
He was actually a bit surprised, although he didn't show it. He hadn't expected to see anyone, anyone interested in what he was writing anyway. He moved out of the way so she could read it. He laid his stick down, and he too read over the words, trying to remember them for later. In the dirt was written, in somewhat messy writing:

He finished re-reading it, and watched her curiously, wondering what she would think of it.

Rubae stepped closer, turing her head so it was at a better angle to read the writing scratched in the dirt. She read the poem over, then once more as she let the words sink in, a small smile curling across her face. "That's really nice," she said at last. "I like the images in it, they're very pretty and calming." She happily read it again, then added, "I wish I could write that well, I'm no good at it."

Donnie smiled, glad that she liked it.
"Thanks! I've never written anything like it before...I guess it's the mood I'm in." He shrugged.
"Well, do you like to write?" He then laughed, remembering that he didn't even know her name.
"I'm Donnie by the way...can I ask your name?"

"Oh! I'm Rubae. Sorry for not saying before. Nice to meet you." She nodded politely to Donnie. "And I'm no good at writing anything. I can read well, but I have no talent for making words sound good together."

"Oh, I see..." he said as he smiled and nodded back to her.
"Well it's nice to meet you too Rubae." He paused for a moment then, trying to think of something to say.
"What kind of things do you like to read?"

"I like reading about new things, so I read a lot of nonfiction," she responded. "I read some fiction, though, especially science fiction. This one," she said, indicating the book she was holding, "is actually a fantasy book. It's called His Majesty's Dragon and it's basically about what would happen if dragons existed and were used as an Air Force in the era of the Napoleonic wars. It's really interesting."

"That sounds really interesting," Donnie said, nodding his head and secretly wondering if dragons really did exist. It only took him a second to bring himself back to reality.
"Well, I like reading nonfiction too. I like learning new things, new information, and trying to see how I can put it to use. But I like reading fiction too, reading about the future and peoples stories and predictions about it. It's really interesting..."

Just then something happened that Donnie wasn't expecting. Something was there, looking at him. It was standing behind Rubae, with an evil glint in it's eyes. Donnie had seen the creature before, many times, but hadn't come across it in awhile. Usually he only saw it when something bad was about to happen. He looked away from it quickly, looking at the ground, hoping his eyes wouldn't give him away. He didn't want Rubae to worry, or to wonder what was wrong. He didn't want her thinking he was crazy, even if possibly he was. He wanted to leave, before it started speaking to him.

"We should go," he finally said. He frowned at the ground. 'Why is this happening now?' he wondered angrily.

((The creature's not really there, he's hallucinating))

Rubae didn't know why Donnie suddenly looked away from her, though she thought she caught a glimpse of something (surprise? fear?) in his eyes just before he did.

"Go? Um, ok," she responded, clearly puzzled. She glanced around for a moment, wondering why he had reacted that way. Seeing nothing, she said, "Where do you want to go to?"

It was too late, Donnie hadn't gotten away in time, and the creature began to speak to him. 'It's coming this way. If you want you're friend here to live, you better get her and yourself to high ground,' the creature said, a smirk on it's face.

Donnie tried to keep his voice down. "What''s coming?" he whispered.

'Landslide.'

Donnie looked up at the mountain behind them. Then the creature was gone. He looked at Rubea, trying to keep his expression calm.
"Uhm...high ground." He said. "Away from here, let's go." He looked to the north and saw some more mountains in that direction, they were away from the lake, and away from the potential danger, so he started walking in that direction.

Rubae saw Donnie whisper something, though she couldn't hear what, and cocked her head curiously. She was even more confused when he said to head for high ground, but followed anyway. She was sure he must have some reason for acting this way, but she had no idea what it might be.

"Is something wrong?" she eventually asked.

Donnie didn't want her to worry, so he laughed and shrugged it off. "No...it's not anything. Sorry about that. I guess I just really wanted to go to the mountains today...Do you like the mountains?"
He looked behind him every now and then, back at the mountain they were now heading away from, hoping that it wouldn't start to slide until after they were out of its way.
