 Zuriel heaved a sigh and sunk back into the ocean. Since that...encounter...with Miss Sienna and Miss Horo at the beach he hadn't seen anyone, on land or in the sea. All of his friends had seemingly disappeared, leaving him with the fish and other animals that lived in what he thought of as his territory.
Time had slowly drifted on, and now found him lazily swimming to one of his favorite grazing grounds. As he lipped at the sea grasses half-heartedly his mind rumbled along on its own. What had happened to everyone? Surely there is someone out there, probably just as bored as I am

 Bubbles peeked her head up above water and scanned the beaches for any signs of movement but just like the days before, there was nothing. No one seemed interested in coming to see the seas lately which meant no fun for her and she was forced to go back and converse with the fish. Talking with the fish was, dare she say it, getting boring though. She had to find some new friends.
As she swam through the waters she dove and weaved in and out between rocks and beds of coral. She spotted a nice bed of kelp to munch on and swam low to the sea floor through the grasses as she went and soon was nose to nose with a large purple figure with big eyes. The light blue mer mare let out a startled scream as she bolted behind a nearby rock, in case the creature, which she couldn't tell was one of her own species, decided to attack.

Zuriel had been quite out of it when there appeared a light blue shape in front of him. Before he could make out what it was it blurred as a scream hit his ears. Startled as well he attempted to also get away as fast as possible, without the success that she had had. His tail, which was normally great for steering and helping him swim faster whacked against the ocean floor.
In all reality since there was a lot of sand about it didn't hurt, but in his startled state he was perfectly convinced that he was about to die. Who knew what creature had screamed, and at any point it might be on its way back to take advantage of his injured state.

Bubbles tried to catch her breath and calm herself down before she peeked around the side of the rock to get a good look at the creature that had startled her. She blinked a bit at the purple figure in front of her and noticed that he was also startled but that he was also like her! The scream might have been a bit much but she couldn't help herself he popped out of nowhere! Slowly she swam out from behind the rock and cleared her throat to get his attention. "Sorry about that, I um...well I wasn't expecting to see someone like myself so suddenly. I didn't scare you too bad, did I?" Her head tilted a bit as she watched him, hoping he wouldn't be angry with her.

He looked up when he heard her voice, relieved to see it was no monster but another mer. He tried to get a grip on his frazzled nerves and to comprehend everything at the same time. He cleared his throat a few times, giving time for the air to pump properly in his lungs and for his heart to stop racing.
Finally he spoke. "Its ok, I was a bit...startled by your scream is all. I wasn't expecting to meet up with anyone to be quite honest with you." Now that he had had a moment to ramble he was able to get back in touch with his manners. "Excuse me Miss, I haven't introduced myself have I? My name is Zuriel, and its a pleasure to meet you I'm sure." He dipped his head in her direction. She seemed to be nice enough, and he certainly wasn't going to admit that she had terrified the living daylight out of him.

Bubbles smiled and dipped her head a bit to him as well. "My name's Bubbles. It's nice to meeet you too. It's always a pleasure seeing my own kind, there doesn't seem to be very many of us out there. I've only met a couple. One tried to eat me and the other was pretty nice, I think he was part whale." She swam all the way out from behind the rock and munched on some of the grasses a bit. He seemed more like her than the others she'd met, since they were both either part whale or shake, whereas he looked more fish like she did. Maybe there was hope for her and her kind after all. I wonder how many are actually out there though...

He nodded his head in agreement. "I've only met a few of our kind as well, and two of them were a bit different. Everyone seems to always be moving on though. Kind of like the land dwellers. I see them but only one or two at a time, and never staying put for too long."
By now he had completely calmed down and he settled back into a relaxed position. "One of them tried to eat you? Really?" His brow furrowed, he had never met one of his kind that wanted to eat him. He took a small mouthful of food as he thought about it.

"Yes there hasn't been very many land dwellers where I stay either. They must all be too busy to come visit the sea." She shrugged a bit and settled herself on the ocean floor as she chewed. So many interesting stories she'd heard from the land walkers, how she wished just to walk on land for a short time and explore where they lived. That would be an adventure for sure.
"Yeah he wasn't nice at all. Just toyed with me until my guard was down and then took a snap at me. Even got a chunk out of my tail." She waved her tail around that had a good sized chunk missing out of it before it settled again. "Sharks, nasty creatures."

Zuriel felt a light shiver run down him as he saw her tail. How on earth could one do that to someone so close to their own kind? "Well rest assured Miss Bubbles, I certainly won't try to bite you. Besides I prefer ordinary sea grasses to anything else." He took a bite of them just to prove it.
"I just can't imagine not living in the ocean." He told her truthfully, "but it does seem incredibly fascinating up there. But I do know its not a good thing to get stuck on the land without four legs."

Bubbles smiled to the mer stallion happily. "Thank you, that makes me feel a lot better." She giggled a little as she watched him. He sure was an interesting one, but nice none the less which made her feel a lot better about being in his company.
"Sure the ocean is our home and we've lived here all our lives but that's the whole point. We've seen almost everything there is to see down here and there's so much up there that we don't know about. That's what fascinates me. Did you get stuck up there once?" she asked curiously with another giggle. Just imagining seeing another of her kind stuck on land was a bit humorous.

Zuriel added another color to his already vibrant body, red. He was more than a bit embarrassed, having another of his kind laughing at him. But it just wasn't his nature to lie.
He looked down as he answered her. "It happened on my first visit to the shoreline, thankfully a land stallion helped me back into the water before the tide went out completely."

"Aww I didn't mean to embarrass you, I just thought it sounded a little funny. Honest mistake though, I'm sure happens to a lot of people. But hey you got back in the water, right? So now you can look back and laugh about it good-naturedly." She nodded matter-of-factly swam up to rest on the rock that she had hid behind earlier.
"So I'm assuming you live around here? I've been curious to see where some of our kind live and what they live in since I don't really have a 'home'." She pondered about finding a cave somewhere to live in so she'd have some shelter but she just never got around to finding one big enough for her.

"I guess you're right," he said with a smile. Thankfully she didn't think that he was completely stupid. "And at least too many people didn't see me."
He watched her as she settled down, glad that she seemed to be comfortable talking to him. "Yes, Miss, I do live around here. But really I just wonder around in the general area, staying in different places all the time. But I could show you one or two of my favorite spots if you'd like."

"That's true, always gotta look on the bright side," she said with a wink. He was just lucky that the stallion who found him decided to help him and not hurt him.
"That would be great! I'd love to see some new places around here." Bubbles got up from the rock and swam over to him with another smile. "Lead the way, Mister Zuriel." She giggled at the name since he was always calling her 'miss'.

"Just Zuriel is fine if you prefer it Miss Bubbles," though a grin pulled its way across his face. Not often did anyone call him Mister Zuriel, he had a sneaking suspicion that they didn't take him seriously sometimes.
"Right this way then," he began swimming, keeping at a normal pace so that she wouldn't have any problems keeping up. With steady strokes he swam towards a rocky outcropping. It held plenty of caves, and several were large enough for one or more mers.
