Making as little noise as possible, Helios crept through the tall grasses, the moonlight gleaming off of his pearly white hair and shining bright in his eyes. This was his favorite time, the time when everyone had settled down and was just getting ready to drift off to sleep. And dream.
He spied a small family not far away, and paused to look. He loved the sight of sleeping forms; the gentle breathing, the peaceful expressions. The young ones especially; they looked like angels in repose, and their sweet innocent dreams almost seemed to cover them like a shimmering cloak.
Still trying to move silently, he passed the sleeping family on by and continued his midnight stroll into the tall grass.

Blossom slipped through the knot of brambles in front of her den, silently padding away on a moonlit path. She was having trouble sleeping again since her nightmares were too vivid. Hoping to clear her mind, she continued down the path.
Turning around a bend, she spotted a white glow against the darkened forest. Creeping up closer, she let out a muffled gasp when she saw that it was another namir.

Helios cocked one ear and he came to a stop. He had thought for an instant that he had heard a small sound, like a gasp. Was it just the wind shoving its way through a stubborn gap somewhere? Or maybe........someone having a nightmare? The thought pained him, though he couldn't quite fathom why.
Still half convinced that he had heard nothing at all, he continued his slow walk, though this time he devoted more of his attention to his surroundings than his thoughts.

Blossom's curiosity kept her going, so she followed her instincts and half-stalked the other namir without detection. After a short while, she stepped on a dead branch that snapped, sending an alert to the other namir.
Afraid, Blossom instantly shot up a tree, cowering in the branches while peeking at the white-haired namir from above. A couple of leaves fell off, slowly floating to the ground.

A twig's sudden snap caused Helios to freeze, his brown eyes going wide and trying to pierce the shadows that the moon failed to penetrate. He heard a few skittering sounds that sounded like someone making a hasty exit to someplace. He carefully walked to where he thought the sounds had come from and came upon a tree. He shrugged and was about to turn when a leaf suddenly passed before his eyes and landed on the ground. Curious, he approached the tree and looked up. He could make out a vague shape that might have been someone hiding. "Hello?"

Blossom, scared out of her mind, stepped backwards off the branch she was standing on. She landed with a muffled thump on a pile of springy undergrowth next to the other namir. She looked up, terrified that the stranger would be angry at her for following him. "I'm sorry," she squeaked, shaking.

Helios blinked in surprise, then looked down at the namir shivering in the undergrowth, even more surprised that someone would be so frightened of him. He leaned down slightly and tried to put the shaky one at ease with a kind smile. "There's nothing to be sorry for. Are you hurt?"

Blossom drew back a tiny bit as the other namir approached, but relaxed her tensed muscles as his kind smile glowed. "Um, I don't think so," she replied, her voice still squeaking a bit. Shakily, she stood up, and looked him in the eyes. He had the most beautiful brown eyes, and she was drawn to them. "What's your name?" she asked.

Helios looked relieved that she seemed less frightened, at least enough not to run away once she was back on her feet. "My name is Helios," he said. "What's your name, and if I may ask, what are you doing outside at such a late hour when many others are asleep?"

"My name is Blossom," she replied slowly. "I was going to ask you the same thing." She stopped, wondering if she could trust Helios. "I-I had a nightmare and I was hoping that going outside would calm me down," she stuttered.

Helios smiled serenely and looked up at the sky. "This is my favorite time of night. When people slumber and weave dreams and contribute their own night magic to the intricate tapestry of the slumbering world." He looked a little sheepish, thinking that might have been babbling, then his brow crinkled and looked at Blossom with sympathy. "That's not good; has anything happened that might be the cause? Sometimes unpleasant things that happen during the day can cause nightmares when night falls."

Blossom listened, enraptured, at Helios's description of the night. "I'm not really sure why I have bad dreams," she said. "But it's the same dream every night. I'm surrounded by darkness, and there's one shining door that I'm trying to get to, but then I'm dragged down into the darkness, and there's evil laughter everywhere!"
Blossom felt tears rise to her eyes. "I hate that nightmare, but I don't know how to make it go away!"

Looking genuinely sorrowful, Helios gently nudged Blossom. "When a dream, or a nightmare, persists like that, it's usually trying to tell you something. Perhaps the shining door and the darkness represent something. Can you think of anything at all that those would portray? A goal perhaps, something you long for, or a fear that you cannot seem to shake loose?" Helios loved dreams that were sweet, and was deeply saddened when he saw or met someone who had a hard time obtaining that serene state.

Blossom thought silently as she let Helios's gentle words flow through her mind. Suddenly, she remembered something that she had forgotten, a part of her nightmare. "You...you were the shining door in my dream!" She was excited that she had finally found the door to sweet dreams, but the darkness still puzzled her. "I think...the darkness is a lock, and you are the door to my happiness. I need a key..."
She looked up hopefully at Helios, hoping he had an idea.

Helios' eyes went wide, and all he could do momentarily was blink. "M-me?" He chewed his lip thoughtfully, not from any dread, but because he could have sworn that he had been such a source before in someone else's dream, but it was ages ago and he couldn't be entirely certain.
He cocked his head. "A key? I wonder what sort of key.......I think if I give it enough thought......I might be able to help you."
