::sits in a corner, looking sad:: cry about two weeks ago, i won this adorable little goldfish at the county fair( He is red/gold on top and white/silver on the bottum.^_^;; i named him Kaiser George Owen Lichtenstein III)
but...George doesnt love me crying for a week i had him in one of those cheap little tanks you take iguanas home in from PetCo,(it only cost about $5, which was all i had at the time, after i bought him some food and a plant). but i felt soo bad about it, because his water would get really dirty and stinky. So when my financial aid check came in, i bit off a chunk of it and got him this cute little glass, filtered fish tank with an air pump and light and everything,(even marbles instead of gravel)and the lid and base are blue!
T___T but he hasnt been wanting to eat. when i go to class in the morning, i put a flake of food in for him, and when i get back its just kinda soggy at the bottum, and he freaks out whenever i get near the tank, and im afraid to turn off his light at night 'cause he freaks out then too, and i dont want to give him a little fishy heart attack!i also dont want to make a fishy stew out of him either.
my sister suggested just floating a peice of cucumber in there for him, but i am worried. i do not want george to die! ::looks at him sadly from across the room:: crying
Does anyone have any advice? I know i cant make George into an SNS fishie, but i dont want him to be all scales and bones either.

I don't know what to do. =(
I have some suggestions. Has he been showing any physical oddities, or is it all his behavior?
Have you tried changing his food? Maybe he'll be more receptive to pellets or bloodworms. Ask for advice a veteraniarans and petshops.
I hope you're goldfish gets better. ;-;

Are you breaking up the food? I know for my sister's fish, the food we get "Teta Min tropical" (I know theres a goldfishy flake as well), the flakes are big, so she pours it into a plastic bag and crunches it up, then puts it back in the container, and puts in a pinch. It's easier for them to eat at.
Another thing, and I hate to say it (;-;!) is that county fair fishies don't live that long gonk They've been shipped under less than questionable conditions, and then stored in plastic baggies, and goldfish produce way too much amonia for little tanks. People don't realize that a goldfish needs like a ten gallon tank, unless you're changing the water on a 5 gallon or whatever every day.
Either way, I hope George pulls through! Fishies are cute little guys and I wish him, and you!, the best of luck =)

George's tank is only a gallon..T__T maybe over the fall break i'll take him home and leave him with mom, and make her buy a bigger tank. cry then i was growing up my father would win me 5 or so goldfish ever year from the fair. i thought i did my part to make the world a better place for fishies(most of mine stayed alive a good long time. We had a 50 gallon tank! biggrin ) oh well...i shall try to make George as comfy as possible...(although...i feel worse for the Iguanas they had that you could win at the same booth. i know nothing about reptiles, but they did not look healthy, even to me. one of my friends won an iguaga, and put him outside(in his cage!) to sun for a bit, and he disappeared within the hour. ::sniffles: smile

Its been years since I've had a gold fish. *asks her sister, who's a whiz at fish, aka: SquishehAngeh* He's freaking out because he needs more space. Full grown goldfish need a minimum of a 50-60 gallon tank. Goldfish are mini Koi. That's all they are. Most goldfish die soon because they don't have a big enough tank. ^^^^ that's straight from the horses mouth. (no pun intended towards my sister xD) She's an animal freak. like a female Dr. Doolittle =P

Yeah, untill you can get something bigger, and how well you take care of the tank. Goldfish produce more ammonia than anyother fish.

Err...
Not to toss out anything that has been said, but I have 5* goldfish in a 10 gallon, and they are perfectly fine. I had them in a 100 gallon pond, but had to move them into the tank last year when my pond busted.
You really only need to change the water weekly unless it's getting awfully dirty every day. Otherwise, seriously frequent water changes will cause the fish a lot of stress, and it will probably die.
Also - Goldfish are not the same as Koi. They're related, but they aren't the same.
*I had 12. I lost 2 to disease, and the others because my mom was changing the water everyday without conditioning it. She didn't know any better, until I pointed it out to her.
