Does coloring your hair damage it a lot? I know bleaching does it, but I mean if I color it just a tone lighter or darker, will it damage my hair? How about low lights and high lights? Does it make your hair dry? And isn't it annoying you need to re-color it all the time (when you hair grows)?

Actually, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I had a friend who dyed his hair black (goth stage) like a lot a lot. It got to the point where, if you just tugged lightly at it, whatever strand you tugged would fall out.
But in my own PERSONAL experience, I have not known it to damage my hair YET. It probably will in the long run, but irl I have short hair so if I go bald, I don't care. XD I used to dye my hair like... every 6 months or so.. depending on a) My mood b) If the color had fully faded c) If I was bored with the color but I'd still leave the color in for a long while before I dyed it again.
As for highlights and low lights. I've only had highlights and I hated them. End of story. I don't know what they do to your hair.
The roots coming out? Hee hee, I have been blessed with the fact that since my roots are dark, and I normally dye my hair deep-light reds instead of blonde, the growing out roots don't look bad. They give the red a more popping look instead of flat red. If it weren't for the fact that I'm off to the military, I'd dye my hair red again. I miss dying my hair. DX
But anyways, I hope this kind of helped.
OH! As for dyes that 'take care of your hair', try using the herbal essence hair dye. Not only does it keep your hair hydrated, but it smells WUNDERVOLL!

Dying your hair is generally very bad for it. If you absolutely just can't STAND your natural hair color, then I'd suggest buying a deep conditioner and using it one to two times per week.
