The sun was hot, but the shade of the trees was cool, and the breeze that billowed through was more then enough to keep any Soquili cool. High above, in the neverending swirl of blue sky, a tan and red stallion kept watch over his family, cyan-green eyes soft with the lack of urgancy his movements betrayed. Lazy strokes of broad, strong wings sent him wheeling, and his movements were watched just as closely from the ground. Darker green eyes then any the family had seen watched from a slighlty pouting face, red brows drawn down as the little head watched the soaring prowess of the stallion that she named her Doda. Her face, marked with the darker muzzle of her Etsi, was pointed straight up, curving a little with the movements of the Winged Soquili so far above. Her ears laid back a moment, and she wondered if he would hear her if she shouted at the top of her lungs for him to stop showing off.
From behind her, she heard gentle steps as her eldest sister slowly traipsed along the river, left in charge of the most energetic of the foals today. The small, pinkish hued filly turned her head to look at her older sister, wondering why she wasn't up with her Doda. Her frown deepened at the serene looking mare, her mismatched eyes always facinating to the foal, as they never held an ounce of anger or saddness, just always so calm and loving as she looked on her younger sisters, of which there were now three. The foal chuckled suddenly. Poor Doda, no wonder he was in the air. No sons again, and if the trend was anything to go by, he never would! The foal clamped her lips shut when her eldest sister looked up at her with a slight curiosity, her own eyes flowing upward to spot their father wheeling high overhead. Her face softened into a loving smile as she watched him, her own wings ruffling a little, though even the untrained foal could see that there was no strength behind those appendages any more. It made the foal sad, but it had been her sister's choice. All because of the sister she had never met!
"Gido, why're ye walkin' wit' me! Ah can get there by meself!!" The little foal puffed out her tiny chest and huffed out of her nostrils, dark green eyes narrowing at her sister. The mare chuckled softly with a shake of her head. "Ah serious 'Suli!!! Go'way! Ah wanna walk by meself!" The mare dubbed as 'Suli shook her head again and trotted up to the tiny foal, pressing her muzzle against her forehead.
"Ye know Ah can' do tha', 'Dihi. Etsi wants me te walk ye there, and tha's what Ah'm gonna do. Ye ain't changin' my mind like ye did Doda's. Jus' 'cos 'e lets ye get away wit' murder, doesn' mean Ah will!" The foal now dubbed 'Dihi deflated visably at her sister's words and stuck out her little pink tongue, lifting her tail up and striding away to the river bank. High above, their father, Tawali, was still soaring, though his path changed and headed down stream at a quicker pace. Had he spotted someone? 'Dihi hoped so! She wanted to splash her twin sisters and their silly feathers, make them all soggy so that they were slow and couldn't chase her as well. She'd show them that having feathers didn't mean nothing! After all, 'Suli never used her's, and she was quicker then even Etsi!! 'Dihi giggled again, looking down into the clear blue water that slugged lazily past, heading downstream to the family's destination.
"Doda wants us to hurry, Tsis'Dihi." The soft words pulled 'Dihi out of her reviere and she turned to look at her sister, who's feathers, both on her wings and behind her ears, were being tugged by the wind. She looked up and saw Tawali hovering, a slow circle to his movements as he lowered himself down.
"Ah'm comin' in me own time! Ye go see 'im! Ah'm wa'chin' these 'ere fishes!" With a roll of her eyes, 'Suli returned to her sister's side to see no fish. 'Dihi grumped again, stamping a hoof. "Ye scared 'em off ye fea'her-brain! Ge'r'off wit' ye! Ah'm comin', Ah'm comin'!!" 'Suli smiled and nuzzled 'Dihi, knowing that although the little foal made a fuss and pushed away the attention, she liked it really, and started to slowly walk on down the river bank, toward the family tree.
Turning her eyes back, 'Dihi looked back into the water, the rippling reflection of herself staring grumpily back. Sticking out her tongue at the reflection, only to get one back, 'Dihi gasped and backed away, running after 'Suli with a faltering lope, wavering her head around to make her movements haphazard and out of control. 'Suli could do nothing but chuckle as the little foal raced off down stream.

She charged on ahead, flaring her wings out to feel the wind try and slow her down. What better way to increase the speed then to create your own challenge. Her light blue eyes glanced behind her to Etsi, her mother Ever Sacrifice, and her older sister, Newadi'Woyi. "Woyi, 'urry it up!"
Ever Sacrifice simply shook her head and trudge along beside her third daughter. Her fifth born would be tired before they even made it to the family tree. "Adi, slow down! They'll be there waiting." She offered a warm smile down to Newadi'Woyi, "Why don't you go and catch up with your sister?"
She could hear them off in the distance and picked up her own pace. She wondered how Tawali was faring caring for a grounded child for the time being. Maybe it was a little cruel of her to ask him to care for her, but it seemed to be the simplest lesson to teach him about her kind. Yes, it was probably very cruel of her. She let out a nicker on ahead of her and the girls, telling the rest of her family they were close.

"You can't beat me, Adi!" the little foal exclaimed, bounding forward after her younger sister and away from her mother's side. "I'm older than you!" She fluttered her wings with each hop forward she took, looking more like an uncoordinated, winged deer deer than a young foal. The wings didn't precisely help her gain any speed--on the contrary, they probably made it more difficult for her to catch up, since she didn't have enough dexterity in them yet to really use the feathered appendages to her advantage.
But 'Woyi still caught up to her sister and pranced next to her, kicking out her back legs in excitement as she arched her neck in challenge. "Race you to the family tree, Adi!" 'Woyi shouted, darting ahead and then back to a screeching halt by her sister. "And don't fall on your face as you try and use your wings!" She lightly nipped her youngest sister on the neck and stuck out her tongue at her, then launched herself in the direction of the river and her Doda. She had heard her Etsi's nicker, so that meant 'Suli and 'Dihi and Doda were up just ahead, and she couldn't wait to race in circles around 'Dihi and pull on her little red tail.
'Woyi fluttered her wings tauntingly, and turned her green eyes back to look at her youngest sister. "And Ah ain't waitin' all day!" she called, giggling and rearing up. "Who's the slow one now?" She wanted Adi to hurry up so she could see everyone and imagine her feathers on the family tree. She could hardly hold herself in one place because of her desire to go off to her father and two other sisters.
{{Sorry for the wait...I'm in Montana at the moment and am in and out of internet access.}}

Dark green eyes lit up as the sound of a soft whicker carried over the river's calm waters, and taking a glance back at 'Suli, who only smiled and lifted her feet in a quickened gait, the two sisters were racing each other to the family tree. Tsis'Dihi knew 'Suli wasn't putting much effort into her racing, because if she did, then she would have pummelled 'Dihi into the ground with her mega speed and already be there. She liked 'Suli for that, but also kind of envied her restraint on such speed. Up in the sky, her eyes spied her father coming into land. She picked her feet up a little more, and her speed increased. Behind her, 'Suli gasped and quickened her own pace, obviously worried that 'Dihi would trip and hurt herself at such speed. The thunder of the sisters' hooves became louder as they entered the treeless bank that held the fjord to the family tree. There, prim as ever and a big, cheesy grin on his face, was Doda. His swirled cyan-green eyes looked very proud of his daughters' speed and he chuckled softly as 'Suli crossed the fjord easily, leaving 'Dihi prancing on the bank on the other side.
"No fair!!! Ah'm on'y li'l!! Ha'm Ah s'pos'a ge'h across?" She demanded, glaring at her older sister. Tawali rolled his eyes and crossed the fjord, the water barely gracing his knees in the shallow middle of the gravelled fjord. All the silt stirred up and made a ghostly trail through the middle of the river. He mounted the other bank and circled his fourth born daughter, lowering his head to her height to see what she saw.
"See tha'n trail Ah jus' made?" 'Dihi nodded, dark green eyes looking at her Doda with great awe. "Follow it, an' ye'll ge'h o'er easy-li'h, jus' li'h ye're sister then!" He nudged her gently with a grin, and she took a tentative step into the water. "Go on. Ah'll be 'ere watchin'!" She nodded, a determined look to her face as she took careful, high-legged steps through the water, making a game of it and nearly bouncing through the water. Problem was, in her exhuberance, she stopped following the trail, and on her next leap, plunged up to her neck in water. Tawali laughed, and 'Suli chuckled from between the fronds of the family tree that she was weaving through, enjoying the feel of the leaves on her back. Tawali stepped into the water and helped push 'Dihi back onto dry land. She glowered at all her family members and huffed.
"Ah men'a do tha'!! Don' la'f!" She stomped off, dripping water. She walked a little further away from the family tree, in the direction she heard some hooves approaching. She looked over her shoulder to her Doda and Godi, and they nodded; it was Etsi and her basket-mates. 'Suli nuzzled her father gently and stepped away a little, taking the moment's quiet to get some grazing in, lowering her head to eat some of the sweet grass that surrounded their tree. Tawali seemed just as excited as 'Dihi to see his young family again, however, deep down, he knew it wasn't a complete family. Without Vidia, it never would be. Thus far, his searchings had produced nothing. It seemed to be a fruitless search. He wandered how far she had travelled, but knew that, eventually, she would return.
"Don' worry about 'er Doda." 'Suli's soft voice brought him out of his reviere, and he glanced to his daughter, who smiled at him. "She knew wha' she was doin' when she wen'. She'll come back. She jus' needs time. Needs'a find the Vidia she was." Tawali nodded with a sigh, but smiled back at his daughter with a nod.
"Ye're righ'. Ye al'ays were righ'. Ye shoul' know. Ye were one o' the closest Soquili to 'er, other then ye Etsi. Can' 'elp bu'h feel responsible though, eh? May'ap she was righ'. May'ap Ah didn' pay 'er as much attention..." 'Suli shook her head.
"Ah al'ays knew she was ye're favourite, Doda. She had the tenacity o' life tha' ye wan'ed me to 'ave, bu'h Ah didn'. As Ah've al'ays said, she was the Wind in this family, not me. Ah jus' look after 'er wings." Tawali smiled sadly at his daughter. Her wings were so frail looking now. They were useless for flight, and despite what she said, she had done very little flying with them, and he could tell at a glance. There was little musculature around the appendages now, and they looked almost handcrafted in their pristine qualtity; fake wings stuck onto a Grounded. It was a horrible thought to have, but Uwoduhi'Suli herself admitted she was a Grounded stuck with a Winged body. Vidia really would have used them; 'Suli just despised them.
"Ah know love. Ah jus' wish she'd come 'ome soon." He cast his glance back to 'Dihi, who was prancing nervously a little way away, watching the spot in the trees she thought her Etsi and Godei would come from.

She tucked her wings against her side as soon as 'Woyi had nipped her and took off at a foal-like gallop. "You're the one that might fall," she teased as she caught up once again.
They finally crested through the underbrush, the two little fillies in the lead and their mother following closely behind. The red mare went over to greet her two other daughters before stepping close to her mate and running her muzzle along his neck. He smelled like the skies, hinting that he'd been up in the air flying as they waited for them. "Sorry we're late. Someone needed a bath before we left." She gave a pointed look to her youngest who shied away behind her sisters.
"It wasn't mah fault! Ah was pushed!" She gave a very unladylike huff, glaring at her almost look alike sister before tugging on 'Dihi's mane playfully. Her blue eyes got big as she looked up at her father. "When are we goin' for flyin' lessons, Doda?"

"I'm the oldest so I'm more flexible," 'Woyi taunted back, sticking her tongue out at her youngest sister as Adi caught up to her. The two raced neck and neck on their spindly foal legs toward their father and two other sisters, whereupon 'Woyi darted directly toward her father, pushing her hindquarters down and skidding to a stop right in front of him. She stuck her tongue out at Adi again, as she'd just proven how flexible she was, then stood up and pranced a little in front of her father by way of hello.
But then her mother mentioned the bath that Adi had taken and 'Woyi felt a grin spread across her muzzle as she looked at her near-twin. "I don' do pushin'! It's not my fault that you're clumsy!" Her green eyes sparkled with merriment and she danced over to 'Dihi to nuzzle her, flopping her wing across her sister's back compainionably, inviting the middle sibling to share in the joke on the youngest.
"Flyin' lessons!" 'Woyi exclaimed, turning her eyes on her Doda, though her right wing remained draped across 'Dihi's back. I hope we get t' go somewhere really adventurous. Tha's where you'll take us, right Doda? I want t' see the world like you!" When her wings grew big and strong like Doda's, 'Woyi knew exactly what she was going to do. She would travel all over the lands, meet every type of Soquili she could, and see everything her Doda had ever seen. She wanted to be just like Tawali.
