No, this isn't about who you like the most character-wise. This is about who's the best units to use in the game, in an effort to spark some debates on FE characters other than the one with Rhys vs. Soren (me vs. the Fire Dragon, which ended in a draw because he got bogged down with work). If you'd like to see that debate, go to "Mature Debates". We're not sure why it was moved there either, but oh well.

So, who all do you think made the best characters of FE7? Post them and say why they're the best.

Also, if two of you think one unit would be better than the other, that's where the debates come in!

Um.. let's see... It was moved maybe because... hmm... this is sooo hard... maybe because it was a.... FRIGGIN' DEBATE! D:<
This is a FIRE EMBLEM guild. It doesn't matter if it's a fire emblem debate, or a debate about world issues, it's still a DEBATE.
No back-talk to that!

Obviously, I think Rath is one of the best. Not because I think he's cool. He's utter pwnfulness.

I haven't played FE7 in like a year, so I don't really remember which characters I use. But Oswin, Hector, Erk, Raven, and Lucius are usually all pretty useful.

I'm being repressed! Whatever happened to the First and Second Amendments? D=

I think the best ones I've seen have been Priscilla, Canas, Oswin, Hector, and... I think that's it, but Kent gets points for being so very useful in the Lyn chapters. Marcus (yes, Marcus) is definitely a good unit, if only for a little while.

Priscilla's a beast once promoted. Plus she's a good healer.

Canas+Luna=Dead Nergal and Fire Dragon (Aureola my foot!), plus he's the only dark magic user you get, which is very useful against bosses like Limstella and Sonia. Oh, and Ursula.

Oswin's the group tank. True, he's slow on the battlefield, but with 30 or so Def, even Uhai at the very end has trouble doing much damage.

Hector's similar to Oswin, except he gets Armads.

I don't think Lyndis' Legion would've got far without Kent. Not that Sain's worthless in comparison, but Kent's speed gives him those oh-so-useful doubles against anything and everything.

The same could be said of Marcus, too.

Raven. And Hector. And Oswin.

Rhys: You're absolutely right about Marcus I think. Regardless of how much "better" your other units become later on, the fact that Marcus is better then them for such a long amount of time can't be denied. And if people would check the average's they'd see he's far from "terrible" with stats comparable to all the other Paladins.

I've said this somewhere before, but there's an amazing debate on FEP about how Marcus beats Heath in usefulness.

I love Raven and Harken both. The chapter where you fight Limstella, I had Harken go the bottom path, Raven go the middle path, and everyone else rush across the top to Limstella. Raven still got there first. Heh.

I've always enjoyed using Priscilla. She's a good healer, and since she's on horseback, she has more maneuverability than Serra (whom I also like because her stats turn out well for me just about every time). Then, once she promotes, she's a BEAST.

Other units I use a lot that always turn out well for me are Florina and Fiora (flying tanks once they promote, especially against magic), Raven... oh, and Rebecca. If you get at least a little Defense for her, chances are you'll be just fine with her. She nearly always gets good Strength and GREAT Speed for me. Combined with her godly dodging abilities, she's just an amazing archer.

@Fire Dragon: I stop using Marcus eventually, so I wouldn't know. But, I think the only Paladin I never ever use is Isadora. You already have so many horsemen by the time she comes in that I just don't use her...

@Kent: I remember you mentioning that. Heath comes in at a TERRIBLE time, almost as bad as Nino or Renault. He might've been much better had he come in earlier in the game.

@Amelia: Last time I played HHM (which I haven't finished and most likely won't), Serra actually had decent stats. It's the only time I've used her instead of Priscilla, save the very first time when I stuck Priscilla right in front of Erik.

I'd say Florina's likely the best out of the flyers. Fiora comes in at a bad time, Heath's timing is awful, and Vaida comes in too late in the game to be of much use. Farina's pretty good, though, if you can stomach the 20,000 (which I can because I arena abuse). My big complaint of the Peg Knights is that their Con is god-awful, and they can't wield anything heavier than a Slim Lance despite having 20 Str. (I love how they fixed that problem in Path of Radiance. 3nodding I hope to Paggy they kept PoR's system for Radiant Dawn.)

Rebecca can be good... if she gets decent Str boosts early on. >_> At level 6 or so, she only had 4 Str one time. Compare this to Will (and probably Rath), who is (are) pretty consistent with this stuff.

@Anyone in general: I think Florina vs. Farina would be interesting. Yeah, Farina requires a lot of cash, but if you arena abuse, it's chump change. Plus, when I used her, she wound up going into the final chapter. Florina, although free, requires much babying to get to godly status.

You think Kent was useful in Lyn's story? Rath and Wallace were the two pwnful characters of that story.

I always use Serra until Priscilla comes.
I prefer mounted units.

And what do you mean about Heath? He's the only wyvern rider you get, except for Vaida, who you get too late. Plus, you get him in the same level as Rath. In no time whatsoever, I had promoted the two of them and they were good units.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:16 pm

Kent was good earlier on, when you had swarms of bandits coming at you and the only other person who could double was Lyn, who couldn't kill them in one round.

Once you got Wallace, though, all you really need to do is just sit back and let the big guy handle everything. Rath comes in strong, but he's not nearly as pwnful since he's a bow unit and therefore can only do so much.

Heath comes in a time where you've got enemy mages and ballistae all over the place. The level after that's the Nabata Desert, right? That place has a couple of nasty axe-wielding bosses and again, pleny of mages. Not much there for Heath to pick off. Rath, at least, doesn't need to worry about ballistae or mages as much, plus unlike Heath, he's got Speed to spare, not to mention he won't be bothered with Con problems.

Yeah, Heath Does come at a really bad time. Even Heath (guildmember Heath) has admitted it it:
Zelym

Heath:
Can you come a little earlier? I find it hard to use you with out you dying on me.

That's Heath/Valter addressing in-game Heath in the Venting thread from the Chatterbox BTW.

And the gaiden chapter after Nabata isn't good for him either since the majority of enemies are magic users (many promoted, some with long range spells). Kishuna might prevent magic in that level, but some of the long range spell wielding enemies can get out of Kishuna's effect, and Kishuna leaves after 5 turns anyway (to be replaced by MORE magic enemies).
Being really underleveled doesn't help with this situation either. That's Heath being pretty sucky.

Huh.... I've found no problems using any unit in any level, so long as I wanted to level them up.

Well yeah, that's why there's favoritism, and you can do it with any character to make them good.
Sorta like how you have to kiss Nino's a** for her to become good.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:01 pm

I never get Nino into the final chapter. I think I managed to make her a Sage once, but that was with a crapload of babying/arranging enemy units so she could finish them off.

Actually, other than Canas, I don't care for the magic units. Erk's never been good for me, Lucius seems too weak, and Pent I just never use. It's nothing against him, but I just don't use him.

... I always use the axereaver Heath has to my advantage and make him kill one or both of the bosses of the next level. Then I make him kill the Generals and the magic users within Kishuna's seal. :] He'll be ready for promotion by the end of Four Fanged Offense at worst for Linus' (I haven't gotten Lloyd's map in a long time, so I'm not sure if I can say the same for that).

Anyways, putting in my input, Nino is definitely one of the best. Sure, you get her at a difficult time, but if you give her the Afa Drops, a bunch of tomes, and get Night of Farewells, she'll be ready for promotion by the end of Cog of Destiny if you act right.

Others on my list include Heath, Hector, and Rebecca.
