The sun was slowly setting over the water, cascading a brilliant ray over the sands of the beach. Long tendrils of mane whipped the the air like wildfire. Hoofbeats pounded over the sand, just in the water. Every so often a neigh would be heard. A lone stud traveled across the brilliant sand. For he was Caravel, and he was indeed a runner. Of course he was fast, but he could run for all of four feet before he was tired. His breath came in short gasps as his nostrils flared and he pulled up. He whinnied in delight and looked up to the sky. As soon as his happiness came, it went. Of course he was happy, but not totally. He was alone, like he had always been. "Ugh," he snorted as he shook sands off of him.

Dory nosed a tiny white shell into place, looking at the pink furred vixen that was seated on the sand beside where the mare was laying. 'See? I kinda think it looks like you.'
Squishy tilted her head, squinting as she looked at the arranged shells on the sea damp sand. 'I suppose..' she said politely, giving her friend a faint smile. It wasn't as though you could be perfect, they were only shells, and it was just a representation. Besides, it had given Dory something to do, to take her mind off the fact that she'd not seen hide nor hair of anyone she even remotely knew. Not even Swafi Jr, the child she was the closest to, had been by lately.
Dory got up, careful not to disturb her 'masterpiece', stretching and shaking sand from where it had clung to her legs. She looked along the beach, and then out to the sea, looking at the colours that the sun was making as it made its way down towards the horizon.
Squishy had done the same, but her sharper eyes had spotted the other Soquili, and with a flick of her tail she padded off, away from Dory. She knew from past experience that when her friend met other Soquilis, she liked to do so alone, because the vixen had a habit of teasing her in front of them. Dory looked around for Squishy, but she'd slipped away to fast to see in which direction she'd gone. As she looked for her, she too noticed the distant stallion.

(( I am so sorry! My internet has been weird beyond all normality, but tis' fixed. ^^ ))
Caravel's bright eyes grazed across the land, searching for... nothing in particular. It was just nice to know that he was not alone out in the world, that other Soquili were here, too. He pawed at the ground a bit at the sight of a hermit crab, edging it to go back into the ocea, a safer place.
He quickly ushered the crab into the water, its true home was there. As he looked up he noticed a mare far off. She was brightly colored and was looking over at him. He whinnied and started to trot over to where she was, perking his ears to show he would never hurt her or another creature.
He slowed as he approached and his chocolate orbs grew. She was really... cute, as much as he didn't like to admit to himself. He wasn't exactly brightly colored or much of a fighter, hence why he was not always with another Soquili. Romance wouldn't look at him so he tried not to look at it much.
Smiling he pulled to a stop a few feet away from her. "Hello there, miss. Enjoying the beach?" His eyes spotted some shells in the sand and he chuckled a t the masterpiece. It was a good way to pass the time, he could tell because of the amount of shells. "Beautiful mural of your friend." He could see paw prints in the sand, she was probably accompanied by soembody. He gently scolded himself for being so rude. He ducked his head and outstreched his leg in a bow. "Forgive me miss, for being so rude. I am Caravel." He pulled himself back up and smiled even more brightly. He admired he mane and tail for a few moments before looking back at her.

'Hello there.' Dory replied, with a smile on her face, and a big ole question mark in her head. She hadn't met this one before had she? She pondered for a moment..then decided that she couldn't have, as he hadn't addressed her by her name. She felt proud for having worked that out, and then worried again because she'd been silent for too long.
'Hmm? Oh did you do that?' Dory had noticed the shell work on the sand, and of course had forgotten that it had been herself who had made it. 'You're ever so good.' she said. How strange that it sort of resembled her fox friend Squishy!
'Oh, I am Dory, are you being rude? I hadn't really noticed,' she said quietly, conspiratorially. 'Just passing by? Or are you coming to enjoy the sea? It is beautiful here so I encourage you to do so.'

Caravel's eyes brightened for a moment. She was interesting, he had to admit, but to him it was in a good way. He chuckled a bit kindly and shook his forelock out of his eyes.
His brow furrowed in curiosity as he looked over at the mural again. He decided that the mare must have been forgetful, nobody was perfect, who was he to say anything. She was truly genuine. "I thought you might have, but I must be wrong then. Whomever did was very good! I doubt that I could have been so creative," he playfully mocked himself.
He gave her a crooked grin, she was very nice, not like most other Soquili he met. He said her name in his head a few time, rolling it over his head and tongue silently. "I'm more the less coming to... run and to enjoy the sea. You are so right, sometimes it makes me wonder what it is like to be under the water. Normally it is a good way to get away from problems, but hardly any other Soquili are ever seen down here. It's a treat to finally meet another, especially one as kind as yourself. What about you, Dory? Are you.... here with anybody?"

Dory still looked puzzled, the memory that she'd done the shell mural herself still not coming back. She knew she collected shells, that was something she did every day because she always forgot where she stashed the collections (though she did sometimes stumble across a long forgotten stash of pretties!).
'No? I am sure you could,' Dory said pleasantly, in a generally encouraging way. She didn't know this stallion after all, and couldn't positively say either way if he was artistically inclined, but she was always agreeable and pleasant. You had to be really when your memory was bad, she'd never remember doing or saying something wrong, and would consequantly become puzzled if anyone was in a mood with her.
She was glad he liked the sea, so few Soquili seemed to appreciate the wonder of it all, except those that actually lived in it.
'I guess we'd have to ask one of those that live in it, though I've yet to meet one properly. And it's good to meet you as well...' Oh no, she'd forgotten his name already! She looked embarrassed and then tried to shuffle past the moment.
'..with someone? No, not now.' She thought Squishy had been here, but maybe that was on another day. 'Well I suppose I am just here with you now.' she smiled brightly at the stallion, wishing that his name would pop back into her head.

Caravel's eyes wandered to the sand, he probably was just having an off time with his senses. His chocolate eyes quickly looked back at her, her vibrant colors making him calm. Could he help it? Bright colors soothed him for some odd reason. She looked like a blue tang fish.
Somehow, being here with Dory didn't phase him at all. It made him happy to know she was not going to prance away just when he finally got to know another Soquili. "I suppose so," he agreed with a smile. "I have yet to meet any either, guess they prefer to keep to themselves." For some reason she looked puzzled, but he didn't know what it was about.
"So, then. Would you like to join me on a walk down the beach? Or, I am up for anything you have in mind."

'Caravel!' Dory exclaimed suddenly, and then shut her mouth, looking sheepish.
'I forgot your name..' she explained reluctantly. 'Oh dear. I suppose I should tell you, I have a problem with my short term memory. I forget things so very easily. Like..' she hummed, and then looked at the ground. 'I did that,' she pointed to the shell mural with a hoof. 'But when you came up, it just really slipped my mind, and the memory only just surfaced again, swimming across my mind like a slippery fish.'
She gave a timid smile. 'So, if you think you can put up with me, and my memory problems, I'd love to go for a walk with you.'

Caravel's chocolaeyes still burned brightly as she told him of her short term memory problems. In all honsety, he didn't mind. She was perfect to him, flaws meant nothing. Thinking of something to say he though about some things that two-leggeds were speaking of. "Memory is nothing but an onld woman that hoards colored rags and throws away food. I don't think you'd need it," he grinned. "And it is an amazing mural," he concluded.
His olive-colored pelt twitched as his tail whacked him all too hard in the side. "Ow..." He shook it off and looked back at her eyes. "Don't worry about your memory with me. Think of it as a vacation." His chocolate eyes lightened a bit more and he started to walk down the beach, his tail still whacking him in the side, but not as hard. "So... Have any family?" He didn't,, so he always enjoyed to hear about others' families. Nobody even looked at him as a foal, he just stayed hidden.

'Really? That's an odd saying..' Dory wrinkled her nose, she wasn't entirely sure what he meant by that, but she wasn't about to admit it. Her nose darkened when he complimented her artwork and she kicked at the sand.
'It isn't that good,' she said, and then stopped feeling embarrassed for herself as the stallion shook, smacking himself with his tail. She giggled, before stopping herself.
'Are you okay, you do that often?' she asked. She'd never do that herself, her own tail was too short for that to happen. 'A vacation?' she wondered what he meant, but hurried down the beach after him. 'Family?' It took her a moment for the memories to shuffle into place, but of course she did. 'I have children, three of them. Two boys and a girl. They are all grown now though. You?'

(( Would you mind if I let my co-owner put him up for a fling? I figure that way the two of them could both have two breedings. It's up to you, htough. I haven't mentioned anything to her. ))
Caravel chuckled. He knew some odd saying that humans said, only because of the things the human he knew did. He thought it meant that basically memory was an odd thing, keeping the oldest and some useless things while normally throwing away what is important.
He felt better knowing that her at least made her laugh, even out of his own stupidity. "I'm fine, not hurt horribly easy. Often? Only when I'm-" he was going to say nervous, but he would have looked incredibly stupid, -not paying attention." He picked his front hooves up over a larger rock in a half-rear and stepped over it.
"You don't have to worry about what you can... or can't remember with me. I'm not going to get agrivated or anything," he concluded. His head spun as he looked back at her tail, mentioning it making him look. He whipped his head back around to watch his hooves and thought.
She had a mate then... Lifemate? Maybe, but maybe not. She might have had another foal if it was a lifemate. She had children though, it was good. He drifted off into thought, wondering if he knew any of them. His tail whacked him again, a good reminder to reply. "Nope. I don't know my mother or father and I've been... alone for all of my life. Of course children would be amazing, though." His forelock fell in front of his eyes yet again and he threw his head up to get it out of his eyes.
Wondering what to ask her, he figured he might as well learn about what she liked, what she didn't, basic stuff in getting to know somebody. Really he wanted to ask her if she had a mate, but he wouldn't and he didn;t want to put her through answering him, either. "So, tell me anything about yourself or what you've been doing, anything!" His voice was incredibly happy, even for a crazy stallion.

'Heh, well I suppose that's one thing, I'm actually quite nimble on my hooves.' Dory grinned. 'And fast, well I had to have something to compensate for my memory!'
She nodded gratefully; 'I appreciate that, though you've not been around me long enough. I am sure everyone gets annoyed with me at some point, I think my children did. My son Swafi Jr,'she went on.
'He's sweet enough to come by and check on me every so often, but I think it bothers him that he has to do that. I mean, he could have mentioned it of course, and I've forgotten.'
Dory looked sympathetic as Caravel explained about his situation in life. 'I'm not sure of my own parents, they might not even be in the world anymore. I have my children, the odd friend or two. It's mostly me alone, or me with Squishy.'
