Green eyes drifted over the glassy breakers as Cael pawed at the fine white sand that littered the small, picturesque beach. Tiny remnants of seashells and knicknacks crunched beneath his paws as he made his way along the shore, the frothy waves casting a long trails of creases across the water.

It was just about sunrise, and the air was cold. A stray seagull strutted along the bank, its white belly and black wingtips bristling with pride. The orangish hue that touched the sky daintily caught his breath and refused to let go, and it was then that he wondered if he was still quite the child.

Perhaps it was just him that believed in the beauty of the beach. Perhaps it was just him that fancied he could live his whole life there- just floundering along the sidelines, living off crab and fish and whatever else there was to offer. It wasn't just the water, it wasn't just the sand, it was the place as a whole, and the sweet, sweet scent of summer that drifted over the salty wind that bestowed itself upon the scene.

Making his way down slowly, he watched in lethargic interest as the sail of the shipwrecked boat still flapped tiredly, long after its time of glory had gone past. Behind him, a soggy trail of footprints would soon be washed away, and with them, the signs that he, as a creature, was once here.

Banded tails swung about lazily behind the wolf, nestled in a dark crevice of a rock outcropping. Face flat against the cool stone, Caeva eyed a crab scuttling back and forth, dangerously close to his muzzle. The few seabirds already awake and circling above didn't dare swoop in close enough to snatch up the shelled thing, and he let it be, turning his eyes twards the horizon.

They were a surprisingly vivid blue for such a dull coat, sparkling with the reflections of the water. The sun had already touched down a few miles offshore, and the water churned orange and white and green against the the rest of the desaturated beach.

He stretched out across the rock, languid, enjoying the dewy sea air. There was no place he had to be, in particular. He could lie around in the shade all day and watch the tide. But, that's something an old wolf would do. Caeva shook the sand from his fur, tasting the salty sea breeze. Lumbering into the water up to his ankles, dipping his head into the frigid water to chase away sleep; this was the life. The sun would reach the beach soon, and dry his fur, so he waded further in, letting the waves break against his sides. The faint smell of wolf reached him as the breeze picked up, plastering fur to his skin and sending a shiver up his spine, but that could wait; the wind could have carried that along from anywhere.
