The small colt trotted slowly through the trees, still getting used to the feel of the wind. Alexiel had seen others walking and trotting, and they seemed to be able to do it quite fine, though he found it a little more challenging at times. Perhaps it was the fact that he often shot out his wings for balance when he felt unsteady, though that only seemed to intensify the problem. The wind really liked them, a lot. And Alex still hadn't quite figured out how to use them properly, so for now he was practising not getting the wind caught up in them, and having it pummel him rapidly forward like it had done a few times. And boy, was that not fun.

Not really paying attention where he was going, Alex just kept wandering, not really caring either. It wasn't as if there was anyplace he was specifically supposed to be, though he did stay out of the thicker, deeper parts of the forest. Those parts gave him a scary feeling, and he knew his mother wouldn't like him venturing there either. So he stayed to the sunny areas, flexing his wings as he tried to make them work with each other and with him, not against him as he had found them doing.

It was then that he stumbled upon the tree. And though for the majority of it's appearance, it did in fact look to be a tree, with all the proper bark and leaves that trees have, it was most certianly no normal tree. He could only stare at it with a perplexed expression for a moment, before deciding to investigate. Curious about it, Alex walked slowly around it, looking at it from all sides. How strange. The vast majority of it was just a tree, but in one crevice lay four bright feathers. Feathers! He had never seen a tree with feathers before, and it certainly was quite the oddity. And they weren't just laying on it, they were stuck into it, even moving with the breeze. He wondered, if the tree had feathers, did that mean it could fly? After all, soquili with feathers could fly, and birds with feathers could fly, so could trees with feathers fly too? A mystery indeed.

She was splashing about in the water, her feathers getting soaked with her effort, but she wasn't particularly caring. She was busy chasing after the little fishes that were swimming in the water, it wasn't a surprise that she hadn't seen or even heard the colt on the banks by her family's tree. She buried her darken muzzle into the water, blowing bubbles from her nose. Maybe they could understand bubble talk?

When she pulled her head back up, her gaze wandered over to where her family's feathers were and she spotted a very peculiar looking colt that had not only wings but four sets of them about his body! Was this the pure-pure breed of the Winds? Something greater than what that Wild Wind was?

She kicked up even more water as she pranced over to the colt, her blue eyes curiously looking him over. This was the first boy she was meeting and she didn't want to get what her sisters called cooties from him. But he was so different from her and her Doda.

Remembering the manners her mother had instilled in her, she offered a warm smile, but still eyed him in puzzlement.
"'ello there. Wot brings ye te mah family's 'erd groun's?"

The filly's voice startled him out of his musing, and Alex jumped a little in surprise. Someone else was here? He had been so absorbed in his observation of the strange tree that he hadn't even noticed. Oops. He turned his head to look, seeing a pale red soquili standing there looking at him. Well, at least she seemed friendly, that was a plus. But, he had noticed she had spoken with an accent. One that he hadn't heard before. Briefly, he wondered just how far he had wandered, after all, he'd never heard anyone with this sort of accent before, and he'd never seem trees with feathers growing out of them. Was he in some different land completely?

But no...he didn't really think so, after all he surely hadn't gone that far, he had been walking the whole ways. So this was her family's grounds then? Well, that made a little more sense. A quick glace back to the tree showed him that the feathers in the tree were coloured a bit like the filly was.

"Oh, um I was just...wandering. Sorry, wasn't trying to intrude." He said, slightly sheepish. Honest, he hadn't know this was her family's land, he had thought it was just, well, land. At least she didn't really seem mad about it or anything, that was a good sign at least.

She giggled when he jumped as she stepped from the water. Beads of water shined on her back and wings like tiny jewels that dripped to the ground. He definitely was different from her sisters, even with his attitude, so shy! "It's all righ'. We dun min' visitors. Mah family is really welcomin'."

She watched him looking at her family tree and stepped closer to him. She wasn't exactly sure what he got from those feathers in there, but a sudden pride welled up inside her. Soon, she and Woyi would be adding their feathers to the tree, once they were old enough. "'ave ye never seen a tree with feathers before?"

She took a mouthful of his mane and tugged on it in the direction of the willow. "Com'on. Ah'll show ye 'em." With a flick of her flaxen tail, she trotted through the draping leaves, not even looking to see if he'd follow.

Welcoming? Good thing then, he would have hated to run across someone who thought he was intrusive. Feeling a little more relaxed now he grinned shyly back as she giggled at him, probably for his jumpiness, but that was okay.

At her question, he glanced back at the tree, and then shook his head. "No...are there...lots of them?" He asked softly. It seemed as if she was quite familiar with this feathered tree, perhaps it was more common here than he'd at first thought? Or perhaps she just knew this tree so well she didn't even think about it.

"Huh? Oh, um okay!" He blinked as she took a little of his mane in here mouth and then started off in the direction of the feathered tree. A closer look? Cool! He couldn't help but smile, feeling a little eager inside, he would get to see it up close! Well that was pretty neat, he was sure that getting to look at feathered tree's wasn't something that happened every day. With a happy snort, he started trotting after her, a little faster so that he could catch up, he didn't want to be left behind. Not when he was going to see this tree, which was pretty cool to him.

She stood over by the trunk of the tree, in the very spot her mother had placed her and her sisters when they were baskets, though she didn't know that. Her gaze was focused on the feathers that were resting in the tree, well, now tied thanks to her mother's two-legger, Evening Night. Her gaze was fixed on the tan and red ones that were very similar to her own.

She smiled once he'd stepped inside.
"Nah, we've got t'e only one in t'e 'hole realm. They're mah Doda and older Igido's feathers. As mah Doda always says, 'a Wind knows where all his feathers lie.'" And she couldn't wait to add her own to the tree. "'Suli says that ye always feel 'em like tiny little pinpricks in t'e back of yer mind."

Wow, the only one? That was pretty cool, very unique anyway, Tsis'Newadi certainly seemed to be quite proud of it. He supposed he would be pretty proud if he had a one-of-a-kind feathered tree too though. Alexiel wondered if Tsis'Newadi would add one of her feathers to the tree when she was bigger. Probably, it seemed like a family thing.

He nodded along with her, following a few of her unfamiliar words like 'doda' and 'igido' and tried to pick them out of context. They must be from whatever other language she spoke, with her accent and all, she probably knew how to speak something that Alexiel had never heard. And did you really feel the feathers like pinpricks in your mind?

"Cool, so you always know where they are? That's so neat! But I dunno if I can do that, I never seem to feel anything from my feathers," he remarked, turning to look at his critically for a brief moment. Maybe that was another special thing that her family could do that he'd never heard of.

"Well, ye're still young, silly," she said with a nickering giggle. She tilted her head to one side, staring at him with light blue eyes curiously. "Ye're feathers aren't strong 'nough te be plucked and preened. Doda said ye have te be all grown up 'fore ye can pluck 'em. Only those ye can feel."

She proudly looked back up at her family's feathers. It was a shame that her mother and two sisters couldn't have anything like that, but they always wore the feathers with pride. Well, she knew her mother had her father's feathers with her always so he could find her wherever she roamed. "'Suli thinks it's romantic te give yer feathers te someone. Ah dun get it, but Ah know mah Etsi has mah Doda's feathers with 'er."

Oh, so you had to be grown up? Well, he had to admit that did make sense. And also probably helped explain why he had never really felt anything special from any of his feathers. Except when they got caught on stuff and hurt a bit. Then he could feel them. Though, Alexiel doubted that was what she was talking about. She said it like a good thing, so he assumed it musn't hurt for your feathers to be away from you.

Alexiel tilted his head. Something romantic about giving your feathers away? Well, he didn't really get that either, but who knew with adults sometimes. "I think I know what you mean. My dad has one of my mom's bells with him. She gave one to me too! Maybe my mama always knows where they are." That thought made him kind of happy, like his mama could always find him.

"Are you gonna put your feather there too when you're a grown up? So you know where your feather is?"

"Etsis always know where their children are. She must really love ye te give ye one of 'er bells. And maybe she can find ye with it." He caught on quickly. "Ye bet ya," she said cheekily. "'ow else am Ah suppose te find mah way back 'ome?"

She moved from beside the tree finally, drawing closer to him. "Do ye want te go explorin' with me? Ah can show ye 'round 'ere and we can pretend we're 'untin' a treasure of sorts. It'll be fun!" Her flaxen tail flicked back and forth behind her happily. He was her friend now and she was ready to play with him.

Exploring? Treasure hunting? Sounded like fun! Alexiel had often gone exploring at home, but since he had no other siblings he most often did it alone or with his mother. And though those were both fun, it was kind of nice to have another foal his age to play with, especially one that was as outgoing as this filly. Alex had always been shy, and he had barely spoken at all when he first came out of his basket. Slowly however he was coming more and more out of his shell. It helped to have someone to encourage that.

"Okay! I like exploring," he said, excitement tinging his voice as his tail swished eagerly. "My name is Alexiel by the way. Um, if you want to you can call me Alex though. Where do we start exploring?"

It was nice to feel this excited to explore with another, he wasn't really sure what she did for exploring because he had only explored with his family...but he assumed it couldn't be that far off from what he knew. Sometimes, his mother would play treasure hunting with him and she would hide something for him to find and give him clues. But maybe he and his new friend could find their own special treasures all on their own!

"And Ah'm Tsis'Newadi, but mah sisters call me 'Adi for short." It made things simpler since both sisters had parts of 'Adi's name for theirs, less confusing.

She was excited herself since it meant she didn't have to be stuck with her sisters, all of them fighting for attention. And sometimes, her sisters were just stick in the muds. They didn't always understand her sense of adventure or how 'Adi could even come up with half the ideas she had in one day!

But her parents encouraged this behavior, telling stories at night before the fillies would go to sleep. It probably was what fueled her active imagination. She started leading him towards the shallow part of the river as she talked.

"Mah Etsi told me a story 'bout Kelpie and other Soquili living in the water. Maybe we'll find one in mah river?" And if not, at least they could go looking for shiny pebbles in the riverbed to keep as tokens for their friendship.

"Hmm, 'Adi. Cool name!" Alex said, interested in this filly and her unique words. Even her name was so different sounding! He liked it, he had never encountered anything too different in that sense. Though he supposed, there must be other languages out there, just as there were different soquili. Once he had believed all soquili were like him or his parents, with wings on their backs. But lately he had been meeting all kinds of soquili, and even ones with horns and other neat things like that. A soquili that lived in the water then, wasn't that unreasonable.

"Okay, to the river then! I've never heard of a kelpie, but I know there are all sorts of things in rivers! My momma once told me that sometimes two-leggers drop their treasures and they wash down the river where soquili can find them!"

He bounced into a trot excitedly beside Tsis'Newadi, fascinated at all these new adventures he had never even thought of. Treasures, water soquili, what other sorts of things had he never known of? It was fun to have a friend to explore with, and especially one so outgoing and friendly. Alexiel, by nature was rather shy, but somehow the friendliness of others seemed to be able to break through that shell to the playful colt underneath.

She splashed through the water, kicking it in a high arc. Maybe they'd come out if you made a lot of noise? "Oh, yea? Ah 'adn't 'eard aboot that before," she said turning to look back at him.

"Oi! What aboot yer winged legs there? Do they 'elp ye fly? Are ye allowed te get 'em wet? Ah'd never seen anyone with so many wings before." She knew her father would be upset if she didn't take better care of hers, like the last time she came home with them dripping wet. Would his parents scold him if he got his pasturn wings wet?

She looked down, her wings droop slightly in her show of worry.
"Ah dun wanna get ye in trouble if ye do." It was strange for her to care about someone facing punishment. The normally bossy filly was showing concern for the first time. "Ah think of ye as mah friend, so Ah dun want yer Etsi to say ye can't play with me if ye got wet..."

He pranced after he excitedly, kicking up his small hooves as he did so and delighting as the water threw sparkles into the air and over his legs. Alex stopped when 'Adi mentioned his leg wings and he turned his head to observe them. The feathers floated gently in the stream and when he moved them the water rushed over them again in different ways. He had never really thought of them before. He didn't like seeing 'Adi worried about him, but at the same time, he felt a warm glow in his chest. She was worried about him! That must mean she was a real friend, right? Only real friends took the time to worry about whether each other would get in trouble.

"I think of you as my friend too," he said with a shy but delighted grin on his face. "And don't worry about my wings, I don't think that they help me fly. You won't get me in trouble I promise! They're small so they dry out pretty good, and I don't really use them for anything."

Really in Alex's opinion, he almost had too many wings, it sometimes became a bother to keep track of. And when his parents preened their wings during the day, his took so much longer! He tilted his head to the side and observed his friend, he didn't want her to worry, he didnt think getting his feet wet was too big a deal, they got dirty so much anyways from the times they would accidentally drag on the ground, this was like cleaning them...basically.
