Well as a hardcore MMORPG player some concern has arrisen with the introduction of the Battle System. If you have everyone the same level then the system isnt really going to go anywhere, so it seems like Levels or some form of character level is a must for the Battle System. What concerns me is what they'll be doing in regards to Classes.

I think set classes (aka you choose a class and your stuck with that character class) would be a bad move on Gaia's part, as everyone be creating Alt accounts or be complaining that they didnt want the class they originally chose. I think Job Classes or something like what Matrix Online used would better suit Gaia and prevent headaches for single-classes.

Stats/Talents/Powers/Spells/Abilities are my next concern. World of WarCraft solved this problem by making it so people can take all Skills that anyone else can take and the ability to unlearn Talents to start over in the Talent Trees for your character class from scratch. I also think they need to not put too much emphasis on any one part of a Character, such as Stats, Abilities, Talents, or otherwise, and that it should be a mixture of all three with balance, making for more diverse and unique characters across Gaia.

As for PvP and PvE, I think the Battle System needs to intigrate both without putting priority over one or the other, each having its own purposes and rewards. For World of WarCraft, PvE (and the Quests that go along with it) offer Experiance Points and Items to help your character "grow", while PvP helped your character gain Honour and Rank within their faction, higher Ranks getting access to funky and good weaponry. Either way both ways would gain the player Reputation for whatever faction/town they were helping. So Gaia could do something along those lines, just as long as they keep both a PvE (Player vs Environment, formerly known as Player vs Monster) and PvP (Player vs Player) aspect intact.

Now for the widely debated Questing system. First off the basics, Level Restrictions and Difficulty depending on what item your Questing for. If your going after a Donation Item such as a Steel-plated Ninja Headband or Kitsune Mask then your obviously not only going to need to be a decent level, but also its not going to be an easy task either. The level restriction on certain items (not for equipping, just for Questing) would prevent just any level for questing for items, therefore bringing down the items value/worth and would also make it so only those that have worked for their level (aka those of whom are serious about the Battle System) will be able to go for the item in a Quest.

Some various notes now. I believe the level system should be whats being used as the standard right now, with a max Character Level and Job Class Level of somewhere between 20-60. Further, if there are Dealth Penalties do not make them so you lose experiance and/or levels when you die! This was one of the things people hated the most about FFXI Online was how easy it was to de-level when you die but how hard it was to level up. De-leveling might work for non-MMO's with people who want the thrill of losing in there (like Hardcore mode in Diablo II), but for the rest of us it just angrivates things and discourages people from wanting anything to do with the Battle System. You shouldnt gain experiance or levels for dieing, but you also shouldnt lose any.

As for Job Classes, I say Gaia breaks away from the normal Fantasy classes, take a page from BESM d20 perhaps and have more anime-inspired Character Classes. Some examples would be...

Adventurer
Gun Bunny
Magical Girl/Guy
Martial Artist
Ninja
Samurai
Pet Monster Trainer
Sentai Member
Student
Shapechanger
Tech Genius

Of coarse you could always add others or unify the ones mentioned, but thats some basic examples.

If Gaia is looking for a core system then I heavily suggest using a modified version BESM d20, which is very flexible and balanced.

Well, thats my two cents. Feel free to comment on them or to add your own. 3nodding

Beutifully said. blaugh

But then again, there is this factor which may restrict gaia from making the battle system as nice as what you have mentioned: Money. True they get donations from many gaians and all, but it may not be enough.

we may have to learn to deal with whatever game they throw at us and make the best of it. It would also be nice to send this thought to the admins since the game is still under development. They might consider adding such features in. 3nodding

Regarding the class systems, from the teaser it looks like it will be a one-class kind of thing... but perhaps they will allow us to change classes for a certain amount of gold, same way they lets us change the kind of house we have for a small fee.

I just still can't wait for it to come out. I think that it would get kind of confusing though with all the levels because then, they would probably have to have level restrictments for parties (if they had a party function) or PvP battles because I know I would take advantage of that because they'll probably have like a challenge or open battle function or forum, then a n00b would be like "0h m3h 1337 h4x0R!!!1!!Eleven M3H B347 AN31!!!!1110101" And then I'd have to go in and kick their a**, but that would be wrong in some way, unless of course the n00b gained experience for their beating.

Concerning the n00b beating, plenty of just plain arrogant older players would beat on good newbs, just because they can.

To some people, there is no difference between pathetic by nature and temporarily weak.

Well there are newbs and there are noobs, you have to note the difference..a noob can be an older player who acts childish or arrogant themselves..I'd say "beating on them" would be just fine...

I completely agree. Beating up on someone who is new is stupid, while beating up on someone who should know better is alright.

simple they should just make it so if you choose aclass you work on it then switch to a diferent class you start back at level on but in that class
