a roleplay between ;; krinn&&lan and hymn&&sojo.

Krinn hopped from one foot to the other, humming merrily as he made his way quickly throughout stalls of the market place. He had a backpack slung over one of his shoulders and a list in his hand, a bird from the shop perched tamely on his shoulder. It shrilled boredly every now and again, having been taken from its normal perch for a little excursion with Krinn as he ran errands for the old man. He had already visited Younka at the store, grabbing everything he needed which was now in a bag stuffed into his backpack. The sunlight trained down on him, its heat bouncing off of his bare shoulders. The tanktop he wore was splattered with neon hues from the early painting lesson and/or attempt to correctly do one of the walls in the apartment. It had already been a couple of days - perhaps even a week! - since he had met up with the strange enigma known as Hymn. Of course he didnt really count days, but he knew it had been some time since the other had met up with him on accident. With a final hum to the song he had in his head, the dust child arrived at the edge of the market and looked from side to side before finding a bench to stop at and dig through his bag.

Slinging his bag over his shoulder once more, the dust child took a bite of a danish he had bought with the money the old man had generously given him for food, and kept hopping along, making sure he still had all the supplies so far. Glancing down at the list as he nibbled his danish, the boy turned a corner and dashed down a staircase which was covered by a wire top decorated with flowers and coated in shattered sunlight. The entire thing led through a backway which was like a miniature garden with only fractured sunlight - enough to let the flowers bloom, but not enough to actually burn anyone with its rays. The bird on Krinns shoulder began to whistle happily along, as it seemed to like the backroad the dust child had taken. And Krinn liked it too. Though something seemed to be nagging him in the back of his mind. Something, something.....but he decided to keep along - just incase adventure decided to drag him into its wonderful mess.

Hymn walked slowly balancing on the tall wooden fence which lined the back ways. Most of the buildings here were abandoned or just not popular therefore the road was almost guaranteed to be empty. Placing his hand silently in his pocked he smiled as his thoughts wandered off to Cada once more. Stumbling a little he felt water shoot up around his body balancing him before returning to the streams which it flowed unwanted in.

The grotesque look of the back roads made most tourists turn away as they hoped to get out of the bustling streets. Hymn particularly didn't mind them as he walked along the fencing. It creaked under his weight but he kept moving as not to damage the delicate wood. Rotted by wood Hymn took a leap like a dancer over a segment a tone of music popping out.

His helment had been left behind as Hymn stole away a pair of sunglasses today, figuring with the cloudy mid-day they would be enough. As he kept along Hymn shed off his shirt and paid it in the carry back which he had at his waist. The tune bounced off his tounge as one of his more upbeat songs filled the air, and silently in his heat a beat began.

Popping out of his trance he found himself standing above another dust, he could sense it. Not bothering though he continued singing dancing on the old power lines, warped and thick with grime. Though no power rain through their veins, little shocks spooked Hymn at first.

Krinn felt tingles shoot up his spine from the close contact of another dust - as he had been trying to figure out the last few days - and looked around. Only after the talk with Hymn had he begun to realize why he got shivers whenever he was around certain others. He hadnt ever brought it up with Lan, because he wasnt sure how. 'Oh hello Lan. I just realized I'm a strange thing called a dust and I met another one the other day. And I'm pretty sure Cada's one too.' It sounded so perfect. Hinting at the sarcasm a tad too much though. Krinn wrinkled his nose at the thought of Lans reaction as his mind flittered off to the thought of Mia and Sable. He hadnt seen those two since the festival. But then again, why would he? Yawning, Krinn glanced around once more, wondering if someone he knew was around. Then the bird shrilled on his shoulder and flapped its gold and brown wings a bit, making him glance up at whatever was above him.

Apparently, the fence that Hymn was balancing on was right above the dust child, and Krinn realized that he was nearing the center of the hidden gardens. They were preserved because people never thought to look where things didnt seem pleasant. With a questioning glance, he put his hands on his hips, keeping a steady pace so he didnt fall behind the other. Without glasses, he looked quite unique in a new way, kind of like the other he had met. After all, Sable had wings, and Cada looked half dead. The bird fluttered a little once more as Krinn began to be drawn in by Hymns song. Of course, he waited patiently for the other to end his happy tune before speaking up. "You know...." He started, figuring out what to say next. "You have really wierd ways of appearing." He was reminded of all the others he had met, and wondered if Hymn had met any of them either. Though he waited for the other to speak before saying anything else. Hearing running water, he turned his head and found a stream zig zagging through the maze of flowers and undergrowth. It was peaceful here. A moment stopped by time.

Hymn slowed his tune as he heard the familiar voice and he turned facing where it came from. Lowering his head he looked down at the dust. Krinn. His mind registered the dust quite flawlessly since their last meeting. Doing a flip off the side of the fence he smiled landing in front of the other. "Why, but I am merely a traveling circus act. Who is this Hymn you speak of?" he asked, without his helment he looked different, but not too odd.

"One I am in a place no one suspects
The place where no other looks
For the best effects"

he riddled frowning on his lack of poetry at the very moment. The secret garden radiated in front of him, and looking at the new entrance he smiled. The garden had been taken care of by several people but since Hymn found it, he constantly made it harder to find. The entrance now was out of the side door to an old bar. The plants glimmered wet in the sunlight as Hymn began another tune. This time darker, a game for the littler one.

Krinn smiled back, though mischief dazzled on his lips as his mind registered the other. He didnt realize he had missed company like this until he had it again in his arms. "A traveling circus act? Well, you sir, are quite amazing for a one man show." Krinn said, with a grin, knowing the game even though it went unspoken. It was true that the other looked different, but he was definately the same person. He listened as the other started up his first tune, quite easy to figure out. The garden was alive with plant life, and the bird on his shoulder nestled his beak against Krinns ear for a second before turning its glistening eyes to the other dust and eyeing him with a c**k of the head in various different directions, his gold, black, and brown feathers ruffled by the slight wind.

for the best effects....

Krinn let the words settle in his heads, liking the sound of it as he questioned exactly what the other meant by a circus act. He knew that Lan did things such as that, but Hymns version seemed to be just as interesting in quite a different way. The next tune to begin was a different one, something he hadnt ever heard before. The old man only ever sung strange, wierdo tunes, and Lan was tone deaf so that lead to Krinn being quite clueless when it came to such a song. Though he listened to it intently, always loving to hear new things...even if they came in forms that he didnt quite understand at all. It was still worth it to try and solve the puzzle.

The song was sung with a slow melodic tune as Hymn lured the other to him. "Over the biggest bridge you will find, that you have to trade an eye for an eye to move further." Hymn listened as Krinn thought about what he had said than moved, he himself stayed in one spot, intent on luring the dust.

Krinn felt the game wrap itself around him, dragging him in slowly as it created for everything an interesting twist. A large bridge....his mind let the idea sink into his mind, as he stepped forward, past the other and looked back at him, as if beckoning him for more. He wasnt quite sure what was going on, but the interest which took over him was too intoxicating to ignore. His dual eyes sparkled as if to say 'I'm not afraid to play your game.' before he moved on as well. He replayed the message in his mind, back to Hymn and only a few paces from the other as he figured what the other could possibly mean. An eye for an eye... It could mean a multitude of things. But the only bridges he knew that were around here were abandoned, or without anything that could possibly mean "an eye for an eye." With one last glance at Hymn, he began to trek forward, his eyes adjusting as mist spread throughout the grass along the broken brick road he now traveled along.

Soon enough, he spotted the answer to Hymns riddle. A long, old bridge rested across a intersection where a river cut across the gadens and ruins, its beauty a bit ghostly - as if it were only partly there. He whistled, and stepped onto it.

An eye for an eye.

This usually meant that a punishment equal to the crime should be given...or atleast, thats what Krinn had heard whenever the term had been used. However, there was no crime involved in this. And who was there to stop him, save for the creaking of boards beneath his feet. Did he have to give something in return for crossing? That could be the meaning of it. But what was there to give? And what was it that wanted whatever it was he was to give? If that made any sense at all. Though, at the moment, Krinn highly doubted it. Taking one step forward, he heard the water rush beneath him and resisted the temptation to look back at Hymn, though he desperately wanted to, for another clue. Or something. But pride betrayed him, and made him stand his ground.

Finally, he saw what was to be done. The bridge was not only made of plank wood. In the center, between the large length of river was a platform made of stone that connected both sides. He half expected a large sphinx to be sitting among the stone pillar, waiting for him to feed the mythical creature a few pieces of a good book. But those only existed in mythology, or atleast, so he thought. No. Instead, a large red cat - or was it a wild animal? - sat on the pillar, its large tail curled around its leg. It eyed him irritably, as if it wanted to say "I will not move unless..." but the dust child did not know what was after the unless. His bird chittered on his shoulder. It wasnt likely that it was uncommon for creatures such as this large cat to be here in such a place. But it was strange that it sat there, wondering what Krinn was trying to do. And he realized now that he had to give something in return for the cat to move and allow him to pass.

Suddenly, a spark of gold shrilled past his face and the small swallow that had perched so diligently on his shoulder was now darting around the cat, making it irritated by its constant game of tag before darting off towards the other side, its shrill cries loud as it disappeared into the underbrush. Krinn raised a hand and stepped forward, as if he could stop the other from giving such a sacrifice. But he put it down after a moments hesitation. This was the way it was supposed to be. Even if it wasnt what he wanted. Though, Krinn realized now, that perhaps the bird was smarter then the cat. Speaking of the predator though, it let its golden eyes glittered before pouncing after its prey - its meal. But at the edge of the bridge it turned back and looked at him. Then it seemed to twitch its ears and say "you may pass in return for your friends sacrifice." Krinn felt his feet moving before his mind, and was soon at the other side. Refusing to show any fear, he turned around, hands on his hips and looked at Hymn from across the bridge. "What now?" He called back, making sure to keep happy over the fact that he had crossed the bridge, though sad at the birds heroic effort.

Brave little bird.

"To touch the floor is to touch the sky
Beware. Beware. Of the River's Eye!"

Hymn sang jumping out of the garden and landing above Krinn again. He didn't feel like just telling the little one but watching. The puzzles were confusing, and this was one of the easier clues. Sitting himself down where a spirit of the Pho-Cat once sat he frowned. The result of him using these mind bending tricks would cost him a lot of energy, but he enjoyed the casual fun.

The River's Eye. That was the next clue which he gave to the dust. The glue talked about there a river see's. The river that flowed through this back road began as they came out of an old building that had been the back-cities reservoir for years. The building spilled out clean water out of the two pipes. Solving this clue was easy, getting to the building had become hard as Hymn had used a lot of his illusions to mix things up.

"To get of that of which you seek,
Find a way to fly."

The more recent clue to help him get to the next portion to get to the 'eyes' simply connected to the portion about 'to touch the floor is to touch the sky.' Hymn looked down at the river and smiled as the water flowed under several lots. This one may be a small challenge to the other, but it shouldn't cause to much brain-gnawing action.

Beware. Beware. Of the Rivers Eye.

Krinn cocked his head to the side, his eyebrow cocked for a moment as he glanced at Hymn. Eye. He had heard of the eye of the storm, which meant the middle. The middle. Or.....Krinn thought of it even more. The heart? The heart usually meant the beginning....so the beginning of the river. Where was that? Wouldnt he just follow the river until he got there? Though it didnt sound as easy as he would've liked. Beware. Beware of the heart of the river, or the rivers eye? Why? He paused, and started walking once more. The building. He spotted it, even though it looked far away. He recognized the two pipes that spilled fresh water into the river and took his best guess at what they were. The heart, the beginning, the eye. Would he want to go there, then? It was his best bet wasnt it though? But then the rest of the puzzle came into play. To get to which you seek - which he still really didnt know what he seeked - you had to....fly? But he wasnt a bird! Krinn looked around once more, realizing that for some reason, the ground had seemed to be carved apart by the river. In strange places the grass would cut out into deep water. Mostly shallow, but in some places, he couldnt even see the bottom. Grass and wild flowers bloomed beneath the wire cage overhead, which blossomed with flowers as well. The shattered sun drifted along the water and across his body as well.

Find a way to fly. How was he supposed to fly? He didnt have wings. He couldnt sprout them and flap across to the old, run down building that seemed to spark with life and imagination. It wasnt anything like he had seen before in all actuality. Glancing once more at Hymn, he began to trek across the ground that led to the old building, but soon found it would be harder then he had expected. The ground slid around beneath him at points where flowers and ground turned to mud and grass. He had kept losing his balance and regaining it, while crossing across small streams, and strangely placed make shift crosses. Logs, planks, and such, were some of his ways across the deeper river parts that were higher up. Then, he reached a large stretch of water that seemed to flow heavy and strong.

When he glanced down into it, he could only see fish and a few other creatures, the bottom further away then he was used to. Of course, it was obviously clear, and looked like it was some type of freshwater coral reef, or as close to one as it could get. But the problem was how to get across. Swimming wasnt exactly his walk in the park, so Krinn glanced to the sky as if to ask it what he was supposed to do. Through the wire frame he saw birds flitting across as the riddle fluttered in his head once more. Then he glanced down at the water stretch again, and was amazed at what he saw. The reflection on the surface had turned to that of the partially cloudy sky.

"to touch the floor is to touch the sky..."

Though technically it wasnt the floor. It was the water. And there was only one way to test it. With a bit of question in his eyes, he put a foot into the water. And was amazed to realize he didnt have it go through. But rather, he could walk on the water.

He could walk on the sky.

And he did. The dust child moved about, his caution wavering as he made it to the other side. He looked back as the mirage vanished and the water became normal again. It was interesting. It was amazing. He had just walked over a cradle which held a precious world within its grasp. And he hadnt disturbed it at all. Like a ghost. Like a whisper on the wind.

Glancing infront of him, he found the building and blinked. It was beautiful even up close. Though it was the rivers eye, so he had to be careful. Caution filled him as he stepped forward to where the pipes were, and yelped when the ground shifted beneath him and water coated his feet. He had made it to his next destination, but he had no idea where to go from there. And the ground slid around underneath his feet while he looked around, wondering where Hymn had gone. He had done it correctly, hadnt he? Now where had the stranger gone?
PostPosted: Mon Jul 07, 2008 12:14 am

Hymn slid the glasses back up his nose as he walked infront of this other. He stood easily on top of the water while the other stood in it soaked in the filthy waste. Pointing with his hands to the two piped above him a small staircase and door way formed between them, etching out the inner layout of the building.

"To find what you seek,
Enter what you fear.
Your very. very near!"

Krinn smiled at the fact that he was close, but not happy that he was covered in muck. Of course, that would all change very soon. He glanced up as the words echoed in the back of his head. This one sounded easy! He glanced at the pipes, and then what was between them. The staircase looked old and worn down, and the door was covered on both vines and strange things that looked as if they were alive, and ready to nibble on Krinns fingers. With a slight stretch of fear crossing the back of his mind, Krinn stepped through a jet stream of water from the pipe, soaking himself even though he was already wet. Though, the upside to it all was that when he came to the middle where the two were side by side, he was cleaner then before, his hair glistening with water droplets and his clothing sticking to him as he glanced up the staircase. With a exhale that sounded like a large sigh, he carefully placed a foot on the old rotted wood and recoiled instantly.

A large hiss echoed from under the staircase as a large snake slithered into view, its gold and green scales flickering in the shattered sunlight. It coiled in the center and beckoned the other to him, even though fear was now burning in his veins. Snakes were venemous - atleast he was told that some of them were. And a bite was bad as well, though Krinn knew that giving up wasnt an option. So instead he stepped forward again and the snake raised its head, smiling through its teeth. "c'mon, looks are decieving." It seemed to murmur as Krinn got closer, and closer. Then, he began to walk past it, and it moved along with him, slithering to the top before hissing its words carefully and disappearing beneath the staircase one more time.

The door stood before him, its old creaking wood making him flinch and want to turn away. But he didnt, and instead raised his hand to reach for the knob that was rusted and old. His fingers barely touched it before a dark matter swept over the door and tendrils of it flickered over his hand. He was trying to convince himself it was an illusion, like the rest of the strange maze he had been going through. As the dark black stuff matted his hand, Krinn shivered, but moved his fingers forward, looking for the doorknob as he let the dark matter crawl up his arm. Finally, metal pierced his skin and he flicked it open as quickly as it could. The door screamed from the outer rim and opened as the dark stuff retreated and blended in with the old wood again. There was pure black within the door, and Krinn was about to step away when Hymns song rang in his ears. Enter what you fear. Krinn sucked in a deep breath.

And walked into the darkness.

"Welcome, to the Garden of Roses," whispered the mystical voices a hand in one wave pulled away the shadows and the air filled clean as the garden stretched on forever and fountains dotted the landscape, a pleasant paradise for a gardener. Flower's bloomed everywhere and trees grew tall. The place sang with the song of the wind and danced happily off their ears. "Now if you please I would like to welcome you personally." the voice rang the figure approaching from a taller bush and pulled off his sunglasses "As Hymn!"

His smile perched on his face as he too examined his work before turning to Krinn.

Krinn blinked as the darkness was pulled away, and smiled to the sight before him. Roses and flowers blossomed on all sides of him, and he couldnt help but feel enchanted by such an amazing place. Whether it was an illusion or not didnt matter. Atleast he was there for a moment. It seemed beauty truly did find itself in strange places. And all you had to do was look. The whisper of a song on the wind caught with him, and he smiled a bit, having made it to the end. A familiar chirp as well brought him back to reality, and he laid his astonish eyes on a small gold and black bird that had perched once more on his shoulder. Reaching a finger up, he stroked the feathers with a soft smile. 'I'm glad your okay.' His actions mused to the bird, who chittered in reply.

Then he glanced up as Hymn stepped into view and greeted him. With a smile, he put his hands on his hips and looked the other up and down with a hint of entertainment in his eyes. "Why thankyou kind sir. Glad to see you've finally showed up!" He said teasingly, locking his hands behind his back after making sure it was definately Hymn. The intriguing dust stood before him, among the roses and the carnations as creatures from within the garden chattered with an unspoken language that Krinn couldnt quite place. Small streams flowed within the Garden of Roses, and flowers sprinkled with morning water glistened eagerly awaiting compliments from anyone that dared to walk through. "This place is amazing!" Krinn said, exhaling and looking around once more as flashes of blue and green, red and gold flickered through the air.

"As simple and bountiful as it may seem, this is but merely an illusion I sparked from your imagination" he explained waving his hand to show what he meant. Snapping two fingers together the illusion vanished instantly and they both stood on a power line. Instantly bringing it back he sighed "Opps..." Rubbing the back of his head Hymn shuffled over to the first rose bush and took a whiff.

"They smell like roses..these however seem to have been things you liked for they're all over. In just about every color too." he predicted picking a rose off the bush with a pear of shears. The delicate sky above them roared in the distance and shook the earth as clouds gathered father than normal. With a little variation of his own the rain began to fall the first sheet moving in from the far east. The cool water fell on his skin lining his face like paper and sliding down the loose features of his body.

Smiling he took off the costume he wore revealing his normal clothes and he continued up the white marble path to a tower that intruded on the landscape. It twriled up into the sky of unique shape giving a feature tot he land never thought of. Looking back to Krinn Hymn smiled "To touch the floor is to touch the sky.." Entering the tower Hymn touched the bottom and he vanished shooting up to the balcony at the top. "Amazing.."

Krinn was amazed by the change in scenery so quickly and did a double take for a moment. His mind raced, but the illusion could still be enjoyed for the moment. The dust watched as the other older one repeated the last words in his riddle, making sense as he performed the trick quite easily. What an interesting aspect on life. Krinn brushed a hand against a budding rose illusion, feeling its tendrils even though it was nothing more then a mere ghost. Everything could relate to life in its own way he supposed. Anything at all. Dipping his head, he felt the rain whisp a muse of hello in his ear as it trickled down the side of his face, fell off his chin, and dripped onto the ground. This part was not an illusion. Not one that he wanted to believe anyways.

He wanted to ask the other so much more, so he leaned forward, examining how Hymn had gotten up there so fast. He eyed the tower before cautiously placing his hand in the same place where Hymn had once been. A spark of illumination flooded his vision, like that of what a bird would see upon taking flight. And then he was on the balcony next to his friend. Looking over at Hymn, the dust blinked and held out his hand, feeling the rain touch his fingers and dance over him in a haze. The sky seemed so much closer now. The one thing that would never change in this oddity of a world.

"Did you know I would solve it?"
He asked, looking over at Hymn - searching his eyes. "Or did you just guess that I would get it in the end?" He wanted to know if Hymn had predicted what Krinn in turn had never known. Most of his actions were made on impulse. Impulse that had come from his heart. The one thing he had been told to follow.
