Fern unlocked the door to her room tenderly, opening it just a crack. Once she saw the inside, she was tickled to see just how lovely it was.
"Oh! Look at this!" Setting the key on a nearby desk, Fern transformed into a very small version of herself that could flit to and fro unbridled.
The little ball of light soon took to examining every corner of the room.

After she had properly eased herself into her room, Fern decided it was high time to get out and about to some fresh air.
"I need to get a few things," she muttered to herself. And so, she set out for Moliné in the hopes of finding what she needed.

The ball had been utterly terrifying for Fern.
Of course the night had started out as magical as she could have dreamed, especially with Gavin making his grand appearance there. They had danced, chatted, been spectacles for the normal people. But once the creature appeared...
Just remembering made Fern shiver. For the past week or so, she had been hiding from the world outside like the little coward she was. Her fear of some beast coming out from the shadows to eat her had been so strong that she hadn't even thought of restocking on her sugar stash, and all the time she spent small just made it disappear even faster.
As she sat upon a book on her desk, Fern heaved a heavy sigh. The stash had officially disappeared two days ago, leaving her stuck in a small state and very, very tired. Well, 'tired' as in calm, and not calm in the way Gavin made her feel. She had contemplated fluttering down to the ground and crawling under the door to get help, but with all the fuss going on, she was risking getting squished. So, Fern stayed where she was, not knowing what to do.

Gavin felt slightly foolish, standing outside Ferns door in an empty hallway with an overlarge gift basket of sugar-related products clasped in his arms like a child. Even more, he was forced to use his forehead as a knocker, as his major appendages were currently occupied. He did so, smacking his head against the wood a few times.
" Fern? You there?"
He was rather worried. He hadn't seen her for nearly a week or so, and despite the naturally calm person-elf- he was, he couldn't help but fret over his faerie friend. He knocked his head against the wood again.

Fern's little head looked towards the door. Was it a monster coming to get her? No, no she thought. No... that kind of thing didn't happen. And besides, it sounded like Gavin behind that door!
"COME IN!!" she shrieked in her tiny voice. Goodness, she thought. Could he even hear her? As she waited for Gavin to come through the door, Fern anxiously looked about for some way to get him to notice her when he did come.

Gavin shifted his feet a bit before awkwardly turning the knob with his wrists.
" Fern, my flutter winged friend.." He edged his way into the room, cradling the basket.
" Look what I've got for you!" He beamed, eyes fixing onto her immediately.
He grinned and set down the basket on the table, before beginning to open up a bright pink package.
" I'd bet this is good for you."

Fern gaped at the basket. At least twenty of her could fit inside, no doubt! But there was a bigger matter to attend to.
"Gavin! I'm stuck!" she cried up at him from her perch. "I can't get big! I haven't the energy, I've eaten everything I had!" Fern carefully hopped down from her book, much like a child heading precariously to the floor from a high place. How silly she felt, tumbling and stumbling here and there, as if she had no wings and wasn't even a fae.

Gavin chuckled and left the package on the table to go and kneel near where she was. He cupped his hands just below her feet.
" Here. I'll carry you over." He held up his thumb for her to hold on to and grinned. She was horridly cute when small.

Fern happily obliged the lift, stepping onto his hand.
"Thank you, Gavin..." Fern hugged him thumb tightly, so she wouldn't stumble in his palms when he moved. How lucky she was to have him, she thought. And how terribly she had treated him...
"I'm sorry I left you at the ball. I was just so scared..." Fern said up to his then quite large, dark eyes. "Whole reason I haven't been going out... I did this to meself."

Gavin shook his head and delivered her onto the table, pulling a candy heart from one of the boxes.
" No, its alright. I was frightened myself. I probably would have run off , if I hadn't been so worried about the human students." He left it unmentioned that he was somewhat of an experienced warrior and so, had a good handle on his fear.
" Here, try this. It should help." He pushed the little pink heart towards her equally small form and smiled.

The candy heart was about the size of her hand, and though it seemed a rather daunting thing to eat, Fern began gnawing away happily. After a few minutes of her contented biting and chewing, she began to regain a faint sparkle to her small form.
"So, you were coming just to see me and give me candy?"
Something about that baffled her, but made her laugh in her tinkling way.
"Aye, you're a right sweetheart, Gavin. I should give you a kiss on both cheeks for coming and saving me from my smallness."
It never occurred to her that it might be awkward for Gavin, since to her kind, it was just a very friendly way of saying thank you or hello. Fern finished off the candy heart, and looked to him for something else to put some flutter to her wings.

He smiled and riffled through the basket, doing his best to ignore the color that painted his cheeks at her comment, and the retort that danced on his lips.
' Really? Just my cheeks?'
He inexplicably grinned to himself, before snapping a piece of strawberry taffy from a larger bar and handing it to her.
" One of my favorites." He smiled and contended himself to watching her eat and thinking.

Once more, she took to fighting with the large piece of candy by pulling off bits and pieces, gnawing and chewing until it was all packed away in her tiny body.
The downside to all this was that her hands were becoming very sticky, but it was worth it for all the energy she was feeling suddenly.
Fern tried fluttering, which worked for a moment before her feet came back to the ground.
"Let's see here..." she said. The fae closed her eyes, tried to feel the magic within her, and miraculously managed to make herself large once more. Where once a small fae sat upon the table, a young woman stood.
"Gavin, you're a gem, strawberry taffy and all!" she said, hopping down from the table and onto the ground.
